At Coleham Primary School, careers-related learning inspires every child to recognise their unique strengths and understand the world around them. Through meaningful encounters, enterprise experiences, curriculum connections and engagement with the wider community, we prepare our children to become confident, ambitious and responsible citizens who are ready to contribute positively to the world around them. We help pupils understand how their learning today can shape their success tomorrow.

It is never too early to nurture ambition in our children. That is why careers-related learning begins in EYFS and continues throughout every stage of school life to Year 6.

Alongside this, we are committed to developing the key employability skills that will help our children thrive in the modern world. Through a variety of experiences, children learn to become confident communicators, effective team players, creative problem-solvers and positive leaders.

Our creative curriculum and extensive enrichment offer play a vital role in this journey. We believe that children should have opportunities to develop talents and practical skills, build social networks and engage with community role models from a variety of professions. Careers-related learning is woven throughout our curriculum, helping children make meaningful connections between their education today and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead, preparing children not just for the next stage of education, but for life.

Our Vision

Through Careers related learning, our children will:

Develop high aspirations, ambition and confidence, believing that they can achieve their goals and make a positive difference in the world;
Make meaningful links between their learning and future opportunities, understanding how skills and knowledge can be applied in real-life careers;
Learn from a diverse range of employers, role models and visitors shaping attitudes to challenge stereotypes and broadening horizons; developing an awareness of the wide range of careers, professions, industries and pathways available to them.
Take on leadership roles which builds essential employability skills, including Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving, Initiative & Enterprise, Planning & Organising, Self-Management, Learning and Technology;
Engage in enterprise experiences, developing initiative, innovation and financial awareness through fundraising, product design, marketing and pupil-led projects.
Leave Coleham Leave Coleham with a desire for learning at secondary school knowing it lays the foundation to build a successful future.

Celebrating Careers

Careers Week

Our popular Careers Week gives all our pupils meaningful experiences with local employees and employers. Each class has 2 careers visits during Careers Week, we’ve had some fantastic visitors including an Archaeologist, a Fashion Designer, Leader of the Philharmonic Orchestra and even an RAF Pilot who landed his helicopter on the school field! Each year is full of surprises. We welcome an array of visitors throughout the year and capitalise on careers learning wherever we can, when we visit organisations in and beyond our community.

Pupil Jobs

Our pupils have positions of responsibility within school. This commitment instils pupils with a sense of pride, team-work and self confidence and so we ask pupils to assist us in running the school by taking on jobs such as Playground Friends, Dining Hall Assistants, Tidy Up Team and Librarians. These are modelled on real life jobs and embeds the idea of learning skills and qualities required for the workplace.

Future Leaders Academy

Pupils don’t just attend school, they help run it. Our Coleham Future Leaders Academy offers authentic leadership opportunities for pupils. From supporting staff recruitment, new parent tours and conducting health and safety walks, pupils develop the skills, knowledge and character needed for future careers and success in the wider world.

Entrepreneurship

With Creativity being the beating heart of Coleham School and our mission to develop employability skills, entrepreneurship is thriving at Coleham! Our children lead on enterprise stalls at our Makers Markets and their talent is staggering to see. Their products, their presentation, their customer service and wonderful entrepreneurial ideas… every bit of it is a class act. The children’s talent, creativity and their personality are on full display and they run their mini businesses with professionalism, pride and joy.
