We currently have spaces available in our Reception Badgers and foxes classes. Please get in touch if you are interested in a current reception place.

Starting School in Reception

We have two reception classes here at Coleham. The admissions number for this Reception year and future years is 60.

Children can attend primary school from the September following their 4th birthday. If your child’s 4th birthday falls between (1st September 2023 to 31st August 2024) (Date of birth between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020) then they will start school in September 2024.

Looking around our school

Choosing a school for your child is an extremely important decision for any parent. We recommend that Parents/Carers visit the “Joining” tab to book an Open Day appointment to visit the school. There is nothing better than seeing the school day in action and getting a real flavour of a typical school day and school atmosphere. We host a range of dates running from October to January for parents with children starting in September 2024.

The Joining section on the website also introduces you to the Early Years Foundation Stage department and team. You can watch a series of videos aimed at giving you and your child a real insight into a day at school for our EYFS children.

How to apply for a school place

The Local Authority, Shropshire Council manages the admissions process for all Reception September starters. Applications should be made online via the Shropshire Council website from 2 November 2023 to 15 January 2024. You will be able to select your top 3 preferences of Primary School for your child.

It is helpful to read the Admissions Arrangements below to see the criteria for how the 60 reception places are allocated at Coleham School. This takes into account whether families live in or out of catchment and whether you already have a child at the school.

Allocation of school places

Allocation Day will be in April 2024. Shropshire Council will allocate places and write to all parents notifying them of their allocated school place. We will also write to parents whose children have been allocated a school place at Coleham School and begin the Induction process.

Starting School Mid Year for Reception to Year 6 children

Coleham School manages all other applications directly for children wanting to move schools mid-year. If your family is relocating or you wish for your child to move schools then please complete a Mid Term Application Form and email it to admin@col.318education.co.uk.

You will be added to our school waiting list and offered a school place if one is available. The admissions criteria (including catchment areas) detailed in the Admissions Arrangements below also applies to any in-year starters and for our school waiting list and so the waiting list is a live document and re-ranked each time a name is added. The school office will be able to advise if there is a place available or if there is a waiting list for particular year groups.

If there is a place available, then you and your child will be invited for a school tour.
