What an evening! Some incredible athletics were on show tonight at our annual Area Athletics Championships 2026, organised by Embrace.

All of the children should feel incredibly proud of their efforts. We saw some fantastic performances in the field events, super-fast sprinting, and brilliant teamwork in the relays.

Lots of children are coming home with medals, and we’re absolutely thrilled to announce that we are the overall champions for the second year running!

I couldn’t be prouder of every single child who took part. Your determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship were outstanding.

Congratulations, everyone – what a fantastic achievement! Keep up the amazing work, and well done!

🏊‍♀️🌟A huge well done to Harper, who qualified for the County Finals after competing in the Primary Schools Competitive Swimming Gala earlier this year. Harper was the only pupil from Coleham to qualify for this amazing event!

Last night, Harper represented Shrewsbury in the County Primary School Swimming Gala, where the Shrewsbury team did brilliantly and finished 3rd overall.

Harper also had an outstanding evening individually, coming away with an incredible four medals:

🥉 3rd – Medley Relay
🥇 1st – Freestyle Relay

A group of Year 4 children represented Coleham at a rounders engagement event last week. The children had a lovely time and displayed some brilliant batting and fielding skills throughout the afternoon. They also demonstrated excellent teamwork, encouraging and supporting one another in every game. They won some matches and lost some, but most importantly, they had lots of fun and were fantastic ambassadors for our school.

We took a selection of Year 3 children to a cricket event at Shelton Cricket Club, where they enjoyed a fantastic day of cricket in the beautiful sunshine.

The children were split into separate teams and took part in a series of small competitions against other schools. They represented our school brilliantly, showing excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day.

To top it all off, every team won all of the matches they took part in! We are incredibly proud of their effort, determination and positive attitude.

A group of Year 5 children were chosen to represent the school in a cricket competition. This year proved particularly challenging as we were placed in a group alongside two schools with some fantastic bowlers. Despite the tough opposition, our players performed brilliantly, scoring some impressive 4s and 6s throughout the tournament.

The team should be incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves. They played with enthusiasm, determination and excellent sportsmanship, laughing, smiling and enjoying every moment. They demonstrated that while winning is always nice, having fun, supporting one another and enjoying the experience are the most important parts of sport.

Well done to the team!

We took two teams to the School Games County Finals after winning the qualifiers to represent Shrewsbury.

To get to this stage is a brilliant achievement in itself, and both teams should be extremely proud of reaching this level.

The netball team performed incredibly, scoring 34 throughout the tournament and finishing in 2nd place. The games were extremely closely matched, and to score that many goals was a brilliant effort and result.

The athletics team adapted brilliantly to a changed format, with two brand new events and some events run as relays rather than individual races. Despite this, the girls listened carefully, quickly understood the changes, and performed superbly. The results were very tight, with the team finishing in 3rd place.

Well done to all who took part, they should be very proud of how strongly they represented the school.

We took all of our Year 5 and 6 girls to the Her Try Time Festival over at SCAT, run by Embrace, to celebrate their success of completing the Her Try Time rugby programme.

The festival was all about giving girls the opportunity to take part in sport in a non-competitive environment, have fun, build confidence and enjoy being active together — and what a brilliant morning it was! With a total of 222 girls attending, it was amazing to see so many girls smiling, encouraging one another and enjoying sport. It was fantastic to see the children building a love for sport and physical activity, without the pressure of competition, simply enjoying taking part and having fun together.

The girls took part in a carousel of activities, practising and developing their tag rugby skills, before finishing with some friendly tag rugby matches. Their teamwork, enthusiasm and positivity throughout were fantastic to see and they represented the school brilliantly.

We were also lucky enough to have women rugby players from Shrewsbury RUFC there supporting the event. Shrewsbury Rugby Club are also encouraging young children to get involved in games and fun rugby activities. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

What a game from our U10 boys in the county final at SEAH Stadium!

Facing HLC, the boys showed real character, going in 1–0 down at half-time. They continued to play as a team and kept their spirits high, showing great belief and determination, before turning things around in the second half to secure a fantastic 3–1 victory and become county champions!

This makes it even more special as it’s their second time reaching this stage, showing their consistency, determination, and quality as a team. To bring home the title again is a huge achievement for every single player.

An incredible performance from a fantastic group, thoroughly deserved. We loved watching every minute. Well done, boys!

What a fantastic Sunday watching our U9 boys represent Coleham in the county finals at SEAH Stadium!

The boys faced St Lawrence and, after going 2–0 down in the first half, showed incredible determination to bring it back to 2–2 in the second half. Despite their efforts, the game finished 4–2, meaning they are county runners-up.

An amazing achievement that the boys should be extremely proud of, reaching this stage is phenomenal. Well done, boys!

We took 40 Year 1 and Year 2 children to a cross-country fixture at Shrewsbury Sports Village, where the atmosphere was buzzing with a total of 179 children taking part.

It was a fantastic event, giving the children a chance to showcase their running abilities. Most importantly, they had fun, smiled, and supported one another throughout – which was wonderful to see.

Well done, Coleham – you did us proud!

Well done to this fantastic group of girls for their outstanding efforts at the recent School Games netball tournament. They played in a round-robin competition, competing in seven matches and winning every single one – an incredible achievement!

A huge shout out to the team for their hard work, determination, and excellent teamwork. They will now go on to represent Shrewsbury in the county finals, which is a brilliant accomplishment.

We are incredibly proud of you all. It was a pleasure to watch your fantastic netball skills and see just how far you have come.

We took part in another swimming gala recently, which was highly competitive and acted as the selection event for the County Finals in June.

All of the children did exceptionally well and swam brilliantly throughout the event. Some fantastic swimming techniques were on display, and every swimmer should be proud of their efforts.

We had a number of children progress through to the finals, and although most narrowly missed out on qualification, Harper was outstanding and won both of her races in the final! She will now go on to represent us at the County Finals.

Back last term, we took a group of Year 6 students to Carding Mill Valley to take part in an orienteering event. The children were sent out in groups to follow a route covering over 3km.

They really enjoyed themselves and, other than a few trips and slips, the day was a huge success! Although we didn’t place in the top three, all of our teams completed the course without missing any checkpoints and finished in impressive times of between 40–50 minutes.

Better yet, they loved spending the afternoon hiking in such a stunning area as Carding Mill Valley.

The U9s have only gone and done it — they’re through to represent Coleham in the County Cup Final, joining the U10s!

The boys secured their place with a fantastic 5–3 win against Whittington in today’s semi-final at home. Some brilliant football was on display, and we are incredibly proud of their performance, teamwork, and sporting abilities.

We can’t wait to see how they perform in their next challenge!

Two teams of girls and boys from Year 6 attended Shrewsbury College to take part in a football and tag rugby tournament run by Embrace, which had been postponed due to bad weather.

The tag rugby team played brilliantly, winning and drawing matches to secure 3rd place in the tournament. One thing that was particularly pleasing to see was that, no matter the result, they went over to shake hands with the opposing team. They also showed great sportsmanship when a child from another school was injured, all going over to check he was ok at the end of the game. Well done to the tag rugby team!

The football team was supported by Mr Williams, who said they played brilliantly. One goal in particular stood out, as the team worked well together to win the ball, pass it through the midfield and out wide, before crossing it in and finishing it nicely into the goal. They played fantastically and were able to claim 2nd place, only losing one game to the tournament winners. Very well done to the team!

A huge well done to these talented players for yet another victory, securing their place in the U10 County Shield finals after beating St Peters 3 – 0 in the semi-final at home. Fantastic football on display, along with brilliant teamwork and sportsmanship.

A huge well done to these fantastic children, Emilia, Noelle, Tom, David, and Harper-Rose who represented Coleham at an inclusion event. They took part in a wide range of activities, including cricket, mechanical horse riding, pony care, team building, and a dance workshop, showing great enthusiasm and willingness to try new things.

All of the children behaved brilliantly throughout the day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience, and positive attitudes. They supported one another, got fully involved in every activity, and were a real credit to the school. It was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the experience, an amazing achievement for everyone involved!

Amazing performance from this group of girls for winning the overall netball competition!

Over the course of the academic year, they have taken part in several fixtures on Thursday evenings at the Sports Village and have put in some fantastic performances. They have won all of their matches, placing them first overall.

Well deserved, girls! You have shown real skill in your netball, and it has been wonderful to see how much you have improved throughout the year. You have demonstrated great sportsmanship, determination, and teamwork every time you have stepped onto the court.

What a great start to the half term with this amazing performance from this group of children at the swimming gala at Shrewsbury School.

We were blown away by the children’s swimming abilities. They were fantastic support for one another, showed great sportsmanship, and were extremely respectful. Every child participated in each race and gave it their absolute best.

We achieved many 1st places in our heats, secured 1st place in most of the relays, and finished the gala in 1st place overall.

Well done, everyone – a truly fantastic effort and an incredible achievement!

A huge well done to the U10 footballers for an outstanding County Shield tournament, showing determination, teamwork and resilience throughout.

After winning the group stage, the team progressed through the semi-final and into the final. The final was a closely contested match, finishing 1–1, with a last-minute equaliser from Bray. The team then showed great composure to secure a 3–2 win on penalties against Greenfields.

A fantastic achievement — well done to every player involved. The team will now go on to represent the county, starting with the semi-finals, and we look forward to finding out who they will face.

A huge well done to this fantastic group of keen footballers in the making! It was a great game despite the result. The girls played Greenfields in the semi-finals and, unfortunately, were narrowly beaten. However, this didn’t phase them at all — they kept their heads held high, showed great resilience, and continued to enjoy the game in very muddy conditions.

Two teams of Year 5 and 6 students represented the school at the School Games Indoor Athletics competition. Following last year’s fantastic results — with the girls’ team taking the win and the boys finishing 5th — there was a real sense of excitement and determination to perform just as well.

On arrival, the teams jumped straight into the events, and from the very first races the energy was high, with wins in both the opening races setting a brilliant tone for the day. As the competition went on, students approached each event with confidence and resilience. They were proud of their performances, and even when things didn’t quite go to plan, they showed great sportsmanship, stayed positive, and focused on the next challenge.

Once all events were completed, we reflected together on the strength of the competition and recognised that there were many strong teams from different schools. Regardless of the final results, everyone felt proud of the effort, attitude, and teamwork shown throughout the day.

The boys’ team were delighted to hear they finished joint second with Greenfields, with Oakmeadow taking the win. The girls’ team erupted with excitement when they were announced as back-to-back winners. This incredible achievement means they will go on to represent the whole of Shrewsbury at the County School Games final later in the year.

A massive well done to all involved, not only for their performances, but for the respect, encouragement, and support they showed to other schools, truly demonstrating the values of Coleham throughout the competition. 🌟

A group of Year 5 and 6 students recently attended a basketball engagement event at Meole Brace Secondary. The session was led by Year 9 students, giving the pupils the chance to try different skills and drills under their guidance before taking part in a friendly tournament.

During the skills portion, the groups were incredibly helpful, supporting the Year 9s by demonstrating techniques to the rest of the participants. In the tournament, they showed remarkable resilience: after losing their first game 2-0, they bounced back to win the remaining matches and progressed to the knockout stages.

Their determination continued as they reached the final, which ended in a very competitive draw. The winner was then decided by free throws, with the opposing team successfully scoring their first attempt. Throughout the session, the students displayed fantastic sportsmanship, immediately congratulating the winning team.

Well done to all involved for their effort, resilience, and teamwork – you were all brilliant!

We took a group of Year 6 students to represent Coleham at the School Games Dodgeball Tournament. They did brilliantly and, although they very narrowly missed out on progressing from the group stage, their positivity never dropped. The laughs and smiles continued throughout the day, and they were able to play additional friendly matches against other schools.

The event finished with a children vs staff and leaders game — where the children absolutely demolished the staff team! It was amazing to see so many pupils showing honesty, sportsmanship, and genuine enjoyment throughout.

A group of Year 4 children recently took part in a Dodgeball competition at Mary Webb Secondary School. Well done to all the children for their fantastic effort and determination, always trying their very best. It was lovely to see them working so well together as a team and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the event.

Although they didn’t make it through to the finals, they truly gave it their best shot and should be very proud of themselves.

We took a group of children to an U10 girls’ football tournament. The team played fantastically, winning one game and narrowly losing the other two 1–0. Both defeats were against very strong teams who dominated their groups and went on to reach the final.

Our team showed excellent grit and determination, defending brilliantly throughout. They held their heads high and were rightly proud of their performance. Well done to all the team.

A group of ten Year 4 children went to the Sports Village to represent Coleham in an indoor cricket event. They played brilliantly, winning every game in their group except one, which they lost by just a single point. This still meant they topped the group and progressed to the semi-final.

They absolutely smashed the semi-final and secured their place in the final. The final was extremely close, but thanks to some fantastic hits and even better catches, they came away as overall winners of the tournament.

Each and every one of the children played amazingly, all doing their part to secure the win as a team. An incredible performance, well done to all!

We played our final match of the group-stage tournament for the County Plate and faced Baschurch at home in truly horrific weather conditions. The pitch was a wet, muddy bath, but the boys didn’t let this affect their performance. They showed great determination and teamwork throughout, finishing with a fantastic 3–0 win.

Well done, boys! A great effort all round.
