Netball Winners!

An outstanding effort tonight in yet another fantastic evening of netball! Our selected group of children participated in netball matches at Shrewsbury Sports Village, and I must express my immense satisfaction, especially given that it’s only our second week. The team exhibited brilliant cohesion, showcasing excellent netball skills. Remarkably, we secured victories in all three matches played. Keep up the good work!

Year 2 Multiskills Event

Today marked a significant moment for some of our Year 2 students as they embarked on their first sports fixture at Meole Brace Secondary School. Participating in a carousel of activities, each child exhibited remarkable prowess, dedicating their full effort to every task. Their seamless integration with children from other schools and exceptional teamwork were truly commendable. Congratulations for an outstanding performance – well done!

Rugby World Cup Competition

Miss Lewis is thrilled to share the exciting results of our recent whole school competition during the Rugby World Cup.

  1. Third Place (England): The whole school received free reader rugby chapter books for the library.
  2. Second Place (New Zealand): Turtles class won whole class reading books.
  3. First Place (South Africa): Foxes class earned an extra PE session with Mr. Halford and a whole class rugby reading book.

The competition not only celebrated sportsmanship but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and the joy of reading within the school community.

Year 6 Sports Leaders

For the past 10 weeks, all Year 6 children have been diligently working on their sports leadership qualification. I’m pleased to announce that each student has successfully completed the program and received a certificate for their efforts.

A special mention goes to this group of children for their exceptional performance in leading a sporting activity for the Year 1 students.

Well done to all Year 6s! Your hard work and excellence are truly commendable.

Landscape Architect Visit for Year 4

As part of careers week, Andrew came to talk to Year 4 about being a landscape architect: designing parks, play areas and regeneration areas. He even showed us a video of an innovation water feature in a park in Chicago. Andrew also told us all about how he became a landscape architect and the skills we needed to follow this career path.

A very wet Football Competition!

Wow, the weather couldn’t have chosen a worse time! A massive congratulations to all the children who participated in tonight’s football competition. For many of you, it was your first time representing Coleham, and I was incredibly proud of each and every one of you. You played brilliantly as a team, showcasing excellent football skills, and you persevered through the rain, refusing to let the wet and cold deter you from giving your best.

An extra special shout-out to the Year 3’s who made it to the semi-finals and ended up in 4th place overall out of 11 teams.

Friendly Tag Rugby Match

Well done to all the children who participated in today’s friendly tag rugby match on the school field against Greenfields. It’s great to have the opportunity to welcome other schools to us and organise matches where our children can proudly represent Coleham while working together as a team.

Every child exhibited brilliant teamwork and put their acquired skills from PE into action. Keep up the good work!

Miss Lewis meets Olympian Beth Tweddle and former Lioness Sue Smith!

Miss Lewis attended the Shropshire PE Conference at Shrewsbury Town today, where she had the honour of meeting Olympian Beth Tweddle, Bronze Medallist in Gymnastics at the London Olympics in 2012. Listening to Beth’s inspirational story has reinforced our commitment to encouraging our children to keep reaching for their goals and desires.

Miss Lewis also had the pleasure of connecting with former Lioness Sue Smith, further fuelling her dedication to enhancing sports and PE.

She eagerly shared her thoughts and ideas with other schools during the conference.

Football Competition

Great job to our footballers this week for taking part in the competition at Shrewsbury School. We made it to the quarter-finals, and although the game ended in a 0-0 draw, it’s unfortunate that we lost in a penalty shootout against Meole Brace.

Once again, our children displayed some fantastic football skills and teamwork. Their performance was superb. Keep up the good work!

Cricket

This half term, several classes – Hedgehogs, Owls, Starfish, and Dolphins – have been participating in weekly cricket sessions led by Mr. Smith from the Shropshire Cricket Board. Over the course of these sessions, the children have been steadily improving and learning new cricket skills. They are now excited to showcase their progress by participating in mini games next week.

Friendly Football

It was truly fantastic to see the sporting fixtures back in action, marking the exciting start of the new academic year with the first fixture this afternoon, at home on the school field

We organised some friendly football matches against Prestfelde for the U9 and U11 girls. All the girls showed remarkable passion and determination, fully immersing themselves into the game.

Well done, super effort from you all!

Cricket Engagement Day

We have had a cricket engagement day for years 1 to 5, coached by Tyler Ibbotson, from Shropshire Cricket. Children throughout school participated in a fun 30 minute cricket session out on the field.

Football Champions

What a fantastic way to wrap up the week, bringing home the Cup!

We couldn’t be prouder of our team’s victory in the Crossbar Cup today. The sportsmanship displayed was truly admirable, and the teamwork and team spirit were exceptional. Our well-deserved win is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Well done boys!

Area Athletics – 2nd overall!

Wow! What an incredible evening we have had competing in the area athletics event. We received a remarkable second place overall, competing against 12 other schools!

We are feeling extremely proud of all the children who participated in the area athletics competition this evening. It was truly heartwarming to witness the amazing support and encouragement you all showed for one another. There were some outstanding displays of running and competition and each and everyone of you should feel very proud of yourselves.

Your representation of Coleham was exemplary and your sportsmanship demonstrated the true spirit of our school.

Great work, Coleham!

A group of Year 3 and 4 girls took part in a football festival at the Grange Primary School this afternoon. They all played super well and had a try of playing in different positions.
