Today we all celebrated Chinese New Year in school with each class learning about the festival.  Year 1, 2 & 4 were treated to a Chinese Dragon Musical workshop. It was Amazing! We also had a delicious Chinese Lunch.

Yr 4 Engenuity

Year 4 visited Engenuity in Ironbridge to support their Science work on electricity. They took part in an electricity workshop and made Jitterbugs. When the circuit connected, the wheel turned and they ‘jittered around’!  They also explored lots of practical experiments in the science museum.  Nell said “ it was fun, we got to touch everything. I would recommend going there”

Chinese Dragon Workshop for Year 1, Year 2 and Year 4

As part of our religious studies, we have arranged for our Year 1, 2 and 4 pupils to take part in a Chinese New Year Dragon Workshop at school on Thursday 2nd February. Each workshop, provided by Sounds Roadshows, will include activities such as lion and ribbon dancing and music making on authentic Chinese musical instruments, and will feature two fabulously colourful 15 metre dragons. Very exciting!

As we have no other way of funding this workshop we would be extremely grateful if parents could contribute £3.70 per child towards its cost. Payment is to be made via your child’s ParentPay account by Wednesday 1st February please.

To mark the Chinese New Year, there will be a Special Menu on Thursday 2nd February

Year 4 go to Meole Brace

On the 19th January, Mr Venn and Miss Mills took a group of Year 4s to Meole Brace Secondary School to participate in a multiskills festival.

The children took part in a variety of activities including Golf, Boccia and New Age Kurling.

Well done to all the children involved, you were brilliant!

YEAR 4 TRIP TO ENGINUITY CENTRE, COALBROOKDALE

As part of this term’s science curriculum work on electricity, we have arranged for Year 4 to visit the Enginuity Centre in Coalbrookdale on Tuesday 31st January.

We will be setting off from school shortly after morning registration and expect to arrive back at school around 2.30pm.

Your child will need to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink for this trip – no glass bottles or fizzy drinks please. Those pupils entitled to free school meals will be given a packed lunch by our school meals provider before departure. Please also ensure that they wear school uniform and have a lightweight coat with them. As we have a packed itinery planned we will not be visiting the souvenir shop, so no additional spending money is required.

The cost of the trip is £12.80, which includes transport, workshops and insurance.  Payment for this trip should be made via your child’s ParentPay account prior to the date of the trip. Although costs for trips are voluntary, in reality the school has no other means of funding these trips. We hope that everyone can contribute to the trip in some way.

Please note that this visit is covered by the Annual Consent Form for Trips/visits & Medical Information. Please notify the school immediately if there are any changes to your contact/emergency contact details or medical information.

KS2 Christmas Performance

What glorious, uplifting singing from Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 to make us feel festive.  A great display of commitment from the children for practising, rehearsals and 4 superb shows. We’re so proud of you all. Thank you so much to our neighbours Holy Trinity Church for their kindness and generosity, it was a beautiful setting full of magical moments ✨️

YEAR 4 RESIDENTIAL TRIP TO CONDOVER HALL:  9th-10th MARCH 2023

Dear Parent/Guardian,

At Coleham we are always looking for ways that we can make children’s education more exciting and interesting and also to provide a broad range of experiences for our children.  We have run a residential trip for year 4 pupils for a number of years now and it has always proved to be very successful.

The positive effect that a residential visit has on children is huge – children become more confident and independent; develop stronger, more cooperative and understanding relationships with their peers; and they learn to organise themselves away from home. Such a visit was, in fact, recommended to us by OFSTED, during a previous inspection, as a way of enhancing the children’s experiences and curriculum.

The visit will take place on 9th to 10th March 2023, with children arriving at Condover around 12.00pm on Thursday, staying overnight and returning to school on Friday afternoon for around 3.30pm- 3.45pm. Whilst at Condover Hall they will take part in a variety of exciting team-building/problem-solving activities appropriate for their age group/ability.

The cost of the trip is £92.40 per child, including transport, accommodation, food, supervised activities, equipment and insurance. We recognise that this is a significant sum of money so have broken it down into two instalments of £46.20. We would be grateful if you could pay the first instalment by 31st January 2023 and the remainder of the trip balance by 3rd March 2023. Of course, if you wish to pay this sooner that would also be appreciated.

If you are worried about making full payment by the given deadline, please do come and talk to me or contact the office: we can extend the payment schedule to give you more time to cover the cost.

If your child is worried about any aspect of the residential trip, please do not worry as class teachers have plenty of time to prepare the children.

Our SENDCO, Mrs Howson, will be contacting any families in advance of the trip where we have identified that children may need some additional support or adjustments.

We will contact you again nearer the date of the trip to go over the finer details and address any outstanding queries you or your child may have.

This trip will be an amazing experience and we hope very much that all our Year 4 pupils will attend. If, however, your child WILL NOT be attending the trip, please do let the class teacher know as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Hilbert

Yr 4 Roman Day

Dolphins celebrated everything they’ve learnt in their history topic at their very own Roman Day. They have eaten olives, pitta and honey, made mosaic tiles and legionnaire shields and enjoyed a Roman workshop.

Year 4 go to STFC

On Friday 18th, Mr Venn took a group of year 4s to participate in a friendly Football tournament at Shrewsbury Town. The main focus was on playing football, rather then worrying about results. The boys played really well with some superb goals going in.

Year 4 Roman Day

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of their topic on the Ancient Romans, each Year 4 class will be having an Ancient Roman Day on Tuesday 15th October.

The day will include lots of exciting activities linked to this theme. Please can your child bring an empty cereal box in too, as we will be doing some Roman-themed crafting on the day.
If possible, we would like the children to come to school dressed as a Roman: a centurion, an emperor, a ‘citizen of Rome’, a slave or a Roman god/goddess! Please do not feel you need to purchase dressing-up items for this event – a flat bed sheet can easily be turned into a toga; a large scrap of fabric or plain clothes and scarf as a slave tunic, a cardboard box and some tin foil into a centurion’s breastplate or shield.  Please see some inspiration below.
We will be going outside during the day so please ensure your child brings outdoor shoes and a coat.
We are really looking forward to being Romans for the day!
Yours sincerely,
Miss Armstrong & Miss Lewis

KS2 Cross Country @ Belvidere School

On Friday 4th November, Mr Venn and Mrs Parke took 24 KS2 children to compete against other schools in Cross Country at Belvidere Secondary School.
The children worked so hard in some very competitive races, and all the hard work resulted in a 2nd place overall finish – amazing work.

A special mention to year 3/4 girls who took the top three spots in their race.

Coleham @ STFC

Mr Venn took two teams of 8 to Shrewsbury Town Football Ground for a Football Tournament against other schools in Shropshire.  They all played amazingly well with both teams coming 2nd in their pool and both were unfortunate with missing out on the play-offs.
We are all very proud of how you played. Well Done!

Yr4 Tudor Walk

Year 4 had an interactive day at Shrewsbury Museum for their topic on The Tudors. They dressed in historical costumes, built a timber frame building, guessed the different artifacts and had a guided historical walk around Shrewsbury. Lots of hands on learning in our beautiful town and museum.

Outdoor Tudor Pottage

Year 4 combine their history/design & technology and forest school skills by cooking Tudor Pottage on an open fire on the school field.  Tudor Pottage is a type of vegetable stew or porridge made up of ingredients on hand.  Mr Venn looked on as Mr Russell dug up the school field to create a cooking pit!

Yr 3 & 4 Sports Day

Year 3 & 4 sports day was a great success for all the children, with the quoit throwing relay, running and team water challenge.  Well done to all the pupils for showing great team spirit in cheering for their houses and to Darwin who won 1st place overall.

Town Walls Tennis Club

Thank you to Town Walls Tennis Club who hosted Whales and Dolphins and taught them some tennis skills.

Shropshire Sings Concert

Yr 4 made us extremely proud by singing their hearts out in a musical concert to parents.   The event which hosted several schools was performed at The West Mid Showground on a summers evening.  The audience were emotional and uplifted by the beautiful singing!

Year 4 visit the Mosque

Year 4 enjoyed visiting the Mosque in Wellington and finding out about the religion Islam and being a Muslim.

Yr 4 Roman Day

This week Year 4 dressed up as gladiators, citizens, gods or goddesses, Celts and emperors. They learned about Roman numerals, tasted some roman nibbles, designed and made their own mosaic pattern, marched like the Roman army, formed a protective battle formation and walked down the cat walk showing off their costume.

Stepping Out Safely

This week, Year 4 are having ‘Stepping Out’ training to teach them about being safe around roads and how to cross the road safely.

Quentin Blake Artist Study

Year 4 have been so engaged with their study of Quentin Blake with many children carrying on their learning at home with their families.  We are so impressed with their enthusiasm and fantastic illustrations.

Year 4 away from home

Year 4 had an amazing time at Condover Activity centre this week where they had the opportunity to sleepover away from home and take part in lots of physical and mental challenges that extend the learning that we do in the classroom.

What an adventure! Well done Year 4

Science Experiment

We love practical experiments in our science work-here is Year 4 investigating how sugar and yeast react producing carbon dioxide which was collected in balloons.  Great work from our scientists.
