Headteacher Message

Dear Families,

Another week filled with activity has flown by and we are already getting towards the end of the first half term of 2026-27!

This week saw the famed House Cup being lifted for the first time this year: well done to QUARRY for winning the KS2 singing competition.  House Captains Flora and Annabel lifted the cup after some amazing singing from everyone on Wednesday.

We’ve also seen a wonderful author visit to inspire our KS1 children and sporting fixtures in football and dodgeball, giving fantastic opportunities for several children to represent their school with pride and passion.  A highlight of the week has to be Year 1 visiting the United Reform Church where they shared their reading with our elderly neighbours, sharing cross-generational favourite books.  A wonderful experience for our children and a heart-warming afternoon for their older partners.

It’s such a pleasure to be part of such a busy, thriving community!

Have a great weekend!

Harvest Festival Donations

We are looking forward to welcoming Rev. I. Budd from Holy Trinity Church to lead our Harvest Festival assembly in school on Monday.

We will be supporting The Shrewsbury Food Bank, Barnabas Church, Coleham.

They would welcome any donations of food/household items (e.g. tinned fruit/meats, tinned meals, rice, pasta, tinned spaghetti, pasta sauces, cereals, biscuits, UHT milk, toothpaste/toothbrushes/shower gel/deodorant/shampoo, laundry tablets, toilet paper and nappies).

Please place any donations on the tables outside the main entrance on Monday morning when you drop your child off at school.  We are going to ask our School Council to help take the food to the Food Bank and see what an important role the food bank plays in our community.

Thank you very much, in advance, for your generosity!

Year 2 Dodgeball

We took a group of Year 2 pupils to take part in a fun and engaging dodgeball tournament hosted by Crowmoor School. Every child was extremely excited before we left, and their excitement certainly didn’t drop throughout the event!

They all played brilliantly, showing fantastic teamwork and giving their best in every game. They were also wonderful role models for our Coleham values, demonstrating kindness, respect and a positive attitude throughout the tournament.

A huge well done to everyone who took part – you should all be very proud of yourselves!

Picture Book Author Donna David visits us

Picture Book Author Donna David visited us today with her brand new release ‘No Way I’ll Stay’, a funny picture book about a stubborn bird who doesn’t want to migrate!

With a message of embracing change and stepping outside your comfort zone.  Our youngest children asked questions about Donna’s job and why she enjoys writing and being an author.

Year 4 Football Tournament

A group of Year 4 pupils represented Coleham at a football tournament. From start to finish, the children showed a fantastic attitude and great determination to do well, and this was reflected in their results.

They only lost one game during the group stage, playing brilliantly in their other two matches. This put us through to a small runners-up final, where we had one final game to play. It was a really close and exciting match, but the children came out on top with two fantastic goals!

Really well done to everyone who took part. You should all be very proud of your effort, teamwork and determination!

Our first fixture of the school year!⚽️

We took a group of Year 6 children to take part in a football mini-league, and they played brilliantly! There were lots of close games, some fantastic goals and some incredible saves.

The best part of the day, however, was seeing that no matter what happened, the team never lost their smiles. They were laughing, enjoying themselves and supporting each other throughout the whole day, showing an incredible attitude and determination in everything they do.

Well done to all of our Year 6 footballers — you were fantastic!

Poetry Panda Bags for Year 1

Our Year 1 pupils have been having lots of fun taking home our brand-new Poetry Panda bags!

As part of our Early Reading initiative, our Poetry Panda bags are designed to encourage children to share the joy of poems, rhymes and stories with their families at home.

Each bag provides a lovely opportunity for children to enjoy reading aloud, listening, joining in with rhymes and discovering the magic of words together.

We hope our Poetry Pandas will inspire lots of happy reading moments at home and help nurture a lifelong love of reading as our children continue on their literacy journey. You can find out more about our Poetry Pandas here:

Bridging generations, one story at a time!

Squirrels children enjoyed a very special visit to the Connections group at the United Reformed Church, where books were shared and smiles exchanged.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our young learners to connect with older members of the community, building friendships, understanding and respect across generations. From reading stories together to sharing a good old chit-chat, everyone left a little happier than when they arrived.

House Singing Competition

Quarry House Crowned Winners in Thrilling House Singing Competition!
The school hall was filled with music, energy, and incredible house spirit for our highly anticipated House Singing Competition.
We were absolutely delighted to welcome a very special guest, Dr Browne, who came in to judge the performances. The children took on a brilliant but demanding challenge this year, performing Ralph McTell’s poignant classic, “Streets of London”. Every house rose to the occasion, delivering a brilliant verse each!
Dr Browne faced a very hard decision scoring the event, as the talent and dedication across all houses were exceptional. However, after much deliberation, the final results were tallied.
A huge congratulations to Quarry House, who were officially crowned this year’s champions!
Thank you to all the children for their hard work, and to Dr Browne for sharing their time and expertise with us.
Mr Hughes
