Careers week! Sport Inspired

Ex Shrewsbury Town footballer and AFC Telford Manager Gavin Cowan gave an empowering talk to Year 6. He spoke about working hard, never giving giving up and starting his own sports business.  Thank you Mr Cowan!

Yr 6 Trip to Western Approaches HQ, Liverpool

As part of this term’s curriculum work on World War II, we have arranged for Year 6 to visit the Western Approaches HQ’s secret war tunnels in Liverpool on Tuesday 13th December.   These secret tunnels were only re-discovered in recent years having been abandoned at the end of the war – a true time capsule for that significant event in our history.

In order for us to arrive at the tunnels on time, we will be setting off from school earlier than usual. The coach will leave school at 8:00am prompt, so children need to arrive at school by 7.50am. We will leave Liverpool at 2:00pm, and expect to arrive back at school around 4.00pm. If we encounter any significant delay on our return journey, we will do our best to keep you informed.

Your child will need to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink for this trip – no glass bottles or fizzy drinks please. Those pupils entitled to free school meals will be given a packed lunch by our school meals provider before departure. Please also ensure that they wear school uniform and have a lightweight coat with them. As the day will be packed with activities, there will be no time to visit the souvenir shop so no spending money is required.

The cost of the trip is £23.00, which includes transport, workshops and insurance.  Payment for this trip should be made via your child’s ParentPay account prior to the date of the trip. Although costs for trips are voluntary, in reality the school has no other means of funding these trips. We hope that everyone can contribute to the trip in some way.

Please note that this visit is covered by the Annual Consent Form for Trips/visits & Medical Information. Please notify the school immediately if there are any changes to your contact/emergency contact details or medical information, or if you do not wish your daughter/son to participate in this trip or any of the stated activities so we can make alternative arrangements for them.

KS2 Cross Country @ Belvidere School

On Friday 4th November, Mr Venn and Mrs Parke took 24 KS2 children to compete against other schools in Cross Country at Belvidere Secondary School.
The children worked so hard in some very competitive races, and all the hard work resulted in a 2nd place overall finish – amazing work.

A special mention to year 3/4 girls who took the top three spots in their race.

Street Art

Giraffes Class have been learning all about Banksy and were very excited by the street art which appeared in Shrewsbury over the weekend!  They walked out to it this morning to check it out.  The wall art has now been claimed by Birmingham Artist Disney.

Netball and Tag Rugby Festival

On Wednesday 14th, Mr Venn, Miss Lewis and Miss Dovey took 35 children to take part in a Tag Rugby and Netball Festival, organised by the year 10 Sports Leaders at Meole Brace Secondary School.

Each team were assigned a year 10 student who ran through games to practise the skills needed, and then finished with a round robin tournament against other primary schools.
The children really enjoyed themselves and represented the school really well.
Well done everyone!

Coleham @ STFC

Mr Venn took two teams of 8 to Shrewsbury Town Football Ground for a Football Tournament against other schools in Shropshire.  They all played amazingly well with both teams coming 2nd in their pool and both were unfortunate with missing out on the play-offs.
We are all very proud of how you played. Well Done!

Year 5 + 6 cross-country

Year 5 and 6 were treated to an extra PE lesson from Mr Edwards from Belvidere Secondary School.
They were practicing running at a set pace before completing a 12 minute Cooper Run round the school field.

Mr Venn will be picking a Cross Country team for an upcoming competition at Belvidere School.

Year 6 Arithmetic Homework

One of the main objectives in Year 6 is to help all of our children achieve their best in maths. Part of this effort will be to ask pupils to complete some short, arithmetic-focused homework which will help to consolidate their learning in class and help prevent avoidable errors in the various calculating methods.
The homework, which will be weekly, will be set on the Monday of each week and we will ask it to be returned to school by the Friday of the same week.
Whilst our homework procedures state a ‘no homework policy’, it does allow for Year 6 to complete some calculating practice, which this is a part of. The homework tasks are not compulsory, and there will be no expectation to complete it, nor sanctions applied for not completing it. However, we would strongly encourage all children to complete it, as it will be of great benefit to them in the long term.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Year 6 Leavers Party

We couldn’t be MORE PROUD of this remarkable bunch of young people about to leave us.  They ended their Coleham School Journey with a leavers party at Jump In and they are definitely READY to Jump in to their new secondary schools and lives as young adults.  Good Luck Year 6, we know you will continue to shine!

Yr 5 & 6 Sports Day

It was so lovely to see families at our Yr 5/6 Sports day.  A huge thank you to Mr Venn for organising the event, the team water challenge was a favourite!  Well done to all the pupils for participating and Darwin for winning 1st place, closely followed by Severn.

Year 6 Pioneers

Year 6 pupils had an excellent adventure at the Pioneer centre for their 2 night stay where they got to put themselves to the test in lots of outward bound activities. Well done Year 6 for challenging yourselves!

Poppins

Well done to everyone involved in our wonderful production of Poppins this week. The show was a great success and received lots of great reviews from those who came to watch.

A superb effort from Year 5 & 6 cast and crew, and a special mention to Mrs Stennett for all her hard work in writing and producing the show, we can’t wait for the next school production!

Drama Club’s Matilda Production

Over the Autumn Term, the Drama Club worked so hard to perfect their acting, singing, dancing and prop making skills, culminating in a performance of ‘Matilda the Musical’ for Years 5 and 6. They performed the house down and received a huge applause for their closing number, Revolting Children. Their characters were so convincing that we feared the school may be overthrown (!) but luckily, the children were happy to accept certificates of achievement instead.
