My favourite moment was learning the song Magpie because it was different from the cheerful songs we usually sing. I love it so much I even put it on my Spotify playlist

Autumn Term Sports

Our sporting highlights for Autumn 2023!

Christmas Lunch

We all enjoyed our Christmas lunch. A BIG thank you to Miss Perry and the ladies in the kitchen as they cooked lunch for over 500 people today! ( and two primary schools)  It was lovely for all staff and children to eat together.

Christmas Panto!

It was with great organisation that we took the whole school (450 adults and children) to watch Jack and the Beanstalk.  Just the office ladies left back at school manning the fort and eating all the Christmas chocolates!

It was an incredible performance from Brad Fitt and the cast, fabulous scenery and spectacular costumes! The children were all dancing in the rows for finale song.  A real treat for the children to visit the theatre!

Merry Christmas to you all

Christmas wouldn’t be complete for us without our Staff Christmas Video!  This started during Covid so we could connect with our families and children at home but has become a much loved Coleham tradition for us all.  It’s our special gift to the children and a way to say Merry Christmas to the many people in our community that help us make our school what it is, to our parents, volunteers, local shop keepers, club leaders, pre-schools, resident artists and musicians and all the organisations we partner with.

Watching the children’s reaction on Monday was priceless.  We are always teaching our children to be creative, try something new and give it a go, so it’s great for them to see our staff be a little silly and push themselves outside of their comfort zone (of course some of us love the limelight, mentioning no names!)

This year’s video backing scenes have been created using the children’s art work.  The children thought they were entering into a Christmas card competition.

We really hope you enjoy this year’s production and it goes without saying that this film would not be possible without the incredibly talented, legendary Mr Williams who directs and edits us all to perfection.  Always smiling, keeping us calm and on a very tight filming schedule!  Bravo Mr Williams!

Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Here we are at the end of the Autumn Term and the end of 2023.  Autumn Term is always a long, tiring term, but there’s always an awful lot happening!  Take a look through all the news stories on our website and see how much has been going on!

We’ve had a fun week with our staff Christmas video premiere on Monday, Christmas Parade on Tuesday, Panto on Wednesday, Christmas lunch yesterday and the Macbeth Performance today, our final day of term.  Everyone is tired and ready for a break and I hope everyone is feeling like they have achieved something this term.

I hope that all of you have a relaxing holiday and enjoy your Christmas.  I’ll look forward to seeing everyone back in January for a great start to the New Year, where we’ll have lots more planned, including this year’s first Quiz Night on Friday 26th January!

Thank you to everyone who has completed the survey – it is still open over the holidays so please feel free to add your comments.

Don’t forget: we start back on Wednesday 3rd January.

Have a wonderful break,

Tom Larkham

Headteacher

Thank you!

THANK YOU so much for supporting our Rainbow Raffle!!

You have helped raise £950 for school!!  We are using this to update some of our phonics book band books that the children take home.

Learning to read is so important and we are always refreshing and updating our books in the classroom.

We are always happy to accept your pre-loved books too, just pop them in the foyer and we will find a home for them 🙂

Shropshire Half Marathon

You are now able to sign up your children for the Shropshire Half Marathon event 2024.

Shropshire Half Marathon Letter

Last year 150 pupils took part and we are giving you plenty of notice to sign up.

There is 6 weeks to sign up on Arbor before the deadline closes and children start running their weekly miles in school.

Coleham Christmas Parade 2023

Well it didn’t rain on our Parade! Thank you to the special folk in our community for dressing up as the nativity cast, to the musicians and of course our furry, four legged friends for entertaining us.  It was great to see so many parents spectate.  The real Santa came to visit with our very own Mrs Claus.  Did you spot our favourite Caretaker from Boogie Wonderland?

Nativity Animals

Our Reception children had a lovely visit from all the nativity animals that feature in The Christmas Story.  We met Ed the Turkey, Tiny and Candyfloss the Sheep, Brownie the Hen, Racket the Donkey and Emilio the rat. We had a rotation of activities with each group making crowns, sequencing The Christmas Story, dressing up and performing the story and meeting the animals who might have been in the stable with Mary and Joseph.  What fun!

KS2 Christmas Performance Photos

Here’s some snaps of our Christmas Performance. It was just magical ✨️

Yr 3 Christmas Cheer

The children in Year 3 have been supporting the children in Ukraine. They have collected reading books and made personal Christmas Cards to a number of children who have lost loved family members through the war.  These items are all being sent over to the Ukraine on Friday.  Well done Year 3 for your kindness to others.

KS2 Christmas Performance

Wow!! A breath taking show from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 for their Christmas Performance.  It is really important to us that the whole school has the opportunity to perform at Christmas time and with 420 pupils that means 7 shows in one week! Well done to all the children for doing their very best in rehearsals and in each and every show.  Singers, dancers, actors, narrators soloists and musicians, you all played a very special part and we are so proud.  It really is magical to hear the children’s voices in such a beautiful church and this wouldn’t be possible without Mrs Porret’s expert musical direction and leading music at Coleham! We are so lucky to have such a fantastic Music Teacher!

Coleham Voices @ Hickorys

Coleham Voices were invited to perform for Christmas diners at Hickory’s Smokehouse Restaurant. The children sang beautifully and it was a great experience for them to sing to a new audience.   It was a lovely festive evening and we were joined by lots of parents.  Thank you to Mrs P for always going the extra mile and bringing lots of musical magic to Coleham ✨️✨️

EYFS & KS1 Nativity

EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 put on a beautiful nativity performance for us all this week. Performing three shows is impressive at any age so well done to our youngest children!  It left us feeling all Christmassy and very proud of you.  A massive thank you to Holy Trinity for their hospitality and letting us perform in their beautiful church. It is such a special place to perform.

WEDNESDAY 13th DECEMBER

The whole school will be going to Theatre Severn to watch Jack and The Beanstalk Pantomime.

Merry Christmas Moneypenny

Some Year 6 Artists designed a special Christmas Card for Wrexham business Moneypenny to thank them for hosting Elephants Class at their impressive headquarters for a Careers trip.  The girls nailed the graphics which are personalised to Moneypenny.  Well done girls #kindness & gratitude

Festive Beats Workshop

Ukulele Club enjoyed their annual Festive Beats Workshop on Monday when Andy Lowe visited with his beatbox, mic and musical tech.

Mrs Wade who organised the visit said:  “The children had great fun composing a hip hop Christmas mash-up with seasonal SFX and Andy recorded them performing two Advent songs on their ukuleles, chime bars and Indian bells”. Well done Ukulele Club!

FRIDAY 15th DECEMBER

Miss Armstrong and the Year 5/6 Drama Club are performing Macbeth to their families in the school hall. The performance starts at 1.45pm.

The Coleham Voices are singing at St Alkmunds Church at 6:00pm.

Today is our last day in school as we break up for Christmas and we wish you all a happy and healthy holiday with your loved ones.

TUESDAY 12th DECEMBER

Surprise Christmas Parade

Our Christmas Parade will take place in the school grounds at 2:00pm.  We will be pulling out all the stops for this to create magical memories for us all.  The children won’t know why they are outside or what they are waiting for as they are positioned around the grounds waiting for a cast of special characters.

Parents/Carers are invited to watch at the pavement railings.

Please keep this a secret from your children, we won’t be talking about this in school so mums the word!

We would be really grateful if you are able to support us and donate £2.50 per child via Arbor towards the costs.

The Flu Clinic will also be taking place on this day.

THURSDAY 14th DECEMBER

We will have a longer lunch on Thursday so staff and children can all eat their Christmas dinner together.
