An Incredible Celebration of Local History and the Arts
Coleham School pupils achieved something truly extraordinary with The Flaxmill — an awe-inspiring, on-site drama production performed inside The Dye House at The Flaxmill itself! This rare and unforgettable opportunity allowed pupils to step directly into history, performing where mill workers once lived and laboured.
The children wowed the audiences, English Heritage Staff and even the Mayor who came to watch!
Created and produced by Miss Armstrong, the production brought Shrewsbury’s industrial past vividly to life through powerful storytelling based on real historical records. Working in partnership with The Flaxmill Museum, pupils researched real people from the early 19th century, transforming their stories into moving performances that captivated audiences.
The children performed in the world’s first iron-framed building — forged with iron made in Coleham — made the experience even more meaningful, connecting place, history and performance in a truly remarkable way. We are incredibly proud of the pupils and deeply grateful to Miss Armstrong, Mrs Marghella and Mrs Porrett for creating such an unforgettable, confidence-building evening that will stay with them for years to come.
