Headteacher Message
Dear Families
As we reach the end of another school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been a truly wonderful year at Coleham.
This week, we received our SATs results and I could not be more proud of our Year 6 children. The outcomes are excellent and are a reflection of so much more than a set of tests. They represent years of hard work, determination and resilience from the children themselves, alongside the dedication of their teachers and every adult who has supported them along the way. From teachers and teaching-assistants; intervention staff to office staff, lunchtime supervisors and everyone in between: success like this is always a team effort. Most importantly, it belongs to the children. They worked incredibly hard and thoroughly deserve every bit of success that has come their way. Precise details of the data will be on the website as soon as possible.
Reports also came home this week and I sincerely hope you enjoyed reading them. One of my favourite jobs at this time of year is reading every single report before they are sent out. It takes a little while, but it is always worth it. Reading about the progress children have made, the challenges they have overcome and the unique qualities they bring to school is a brilliant reminder of what a privilege it is to be part of their journey. I genuinely enjoyed reading every single one.
It has been a great year. There have been achievements in the classroom, on the sports pitches, on trips, in performances and in the countless everyday moments that make a school such a special place. None of that happens without the support of our families, so thank you. Whether it has been helping with reading, attending events, responding to messages or simply getting children through the gates each morning ready to learn, your partnership makes an enormous difference.
There are also a couple of staff members we will be saying goodbye to this summer. Mel, our cook, is leaving after providing countless wonderful meals for our children over the years. School lunches are a hugely important part of the day and Mel has played a significant role in making sure children have been well fed and looked after. We thank her for everything she has done and wish her all the very best for the future.
We will also be saying farewell to Mrs Field, who is leaving us to take up a College Lecturer position. This is a fantastic opportunity and a reflection of the expertise and knowledge she brings to education. We thank her for her contribution to Coleham over the last 8 years and wish her every success in her new role.
We are also delighted to share that Ms Lucas with be with us full time in September to be Year 1 Hedgehogs Class Teacher 5 days a week. This will provide greater consistency for the children and Mrs Stennett and Ms Lucas are excited to be teaching Year 1 together. They have lots of plans to freshen up the classrooms and transform the outside area ready for September!
Finally, it is a shame about England’s men at the World Cup. As I write this, the staff have yet to take on Year 6 in the end-of-year football and netball matches. Given recent sporting events, it would be nice if the adults could actually win something for a change! Whether we emerge victorious or not, I suspect the Year 6 children may have other ideas.
We’ve talked a lot about the year, but it’s not completely over yet: three days next week sees the final goodbyes; the House Cup and the winners of the termly Values Cups – so much to be excited about!
One final important message: Thank you for all your patience re: the road the last couple of days – it’s been stressful! As I understand it, the roundabout at Coleham Head will be resurfaced next week, but I am assured that it won’t have an impact on school. Let’s hope they’re right!
Have a lovely weekend!

Chef Manager Job @ Coleham School Kitchen
Our current Chef Miss Perry has been successfully promoted to a secondary school within our Trust. We are delighted she has achieved her ambition of the next steps in her career but will miss her at the helm of our School Kitchen.
Therefore we have a CHEF MANAGER VACANCY. Please spread the word!

Understanding your child
An exciting opportunity is coming to Coleham School.
In September, our pastoral leader Mrs Nash will be running the Understanding Your Child- From Toddler To Teen group alongside Grace, a member of The Shropshire Parenting Team.
These groups have been developed by a team of clinical psychologists, child psychotherapists, health visitors, child and family practitioners and most importantly parents/carers. Everything you’ll follow and learn in the group has been informed by experience and is designed to be practical, to help you and your family in your everyday family interactions.
The groups:
- Promote understanding of children’s behaviour within the context of how a child develops
- Promote the development of parent/child relationship
- Increase confidence and self-esteem in both parents and children
- Give parents a strategy for repair when things go wrong
- Promote reflective, sensitive and effective parenting
We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly, relaxed group where refreshments will also be provided.
To book your place or find out more, please register your interest with the school office and Mrs Nash will contact you.
Pond Dipping @ Reabrook Valley
There’s nothing quite like discovering what’s beneath the surface 🐸
Year 4 joined Shropshire Wildlife Trust for a hands-on pond dipping session – and what a day it was! From wriggling water boatmen to curious tadpoles, the children got stuck in exploring the hidden world of freshwater wildlife.
Outdoor learning like this helps young people build confidence, curiosity and a real connection to nature – something we’re proud to learn with our friends @ Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
Sketchercise Art Club @ Bloom Studio
There has been a real hoot of creativity at our after-school Art Club this term as pupils continue to develop their artistic talents in collaboration with Bloom Art Studio. 🦉
Over the last few sessions, our young artists have been exploring owls, using fine liner pens to create detailed experimenting and expressive drawings. Pupils have focused on how artists can show texture using hatching, cross-hatching and varied mark making to bring their owls to life.
The results have been truly owl-standing!
We are delighted to continue our partnership with Bloom Art Studio, whose expertise and inspiration encourage pupils to discover just how creative they can be.
Young Food Critics in Action
Our After School Club children were a brilliant survey panel today, helping the Shrewsbury Food Hub by taste-testing recipes being prepared for upcoming Shropshire Holiday Clubs.
The children embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm, carefully sampling a variety of dishes and sharing their honest feedback.
Even after a really hot day and a full day of school the children were polite, considerate, took the task very seriously and were very engaged. Just a great bunch of kids Ali Thomas, Shrewsbury Food Hub
Year 6 Leavers Brunch @ Hickorys
Our Year 6 leavers were very kindly treated to a Leavers Brunch @ Hickory’s Smokehouse. Pancake stacks and milkshakes were the order of the day! What a lovely way to end the year, making the most of their Coleham friendships. Another special memory in the bank!
A big Thank You to Hickorys!
SATS success for Year 6!
Celebrating Our Wonderful Children 🌟
Miss Featherston and Mrs Morgan took time to share a personal moment with each child as they received their SATs results, celebrating their individual achievements and recognising the hard work, dedication and maturity they have shown throughout the year.
Every child has worked incredibly hard with a positive attitude to learning. We are so proud of all they have accomplished and delighted to share that our SATS results this year have been exceptional.
Congratulations to each and every one of our children – your hard work has truly paid off, and we could not be prouder of you! 🎉👏💙

🐾 School Council Raises Over £250 for Guide Dogs! 🐾
Our School Council is proud to have raised an amazing £250+ for Guide Dogs after choosing the charity following research into the causes that matter most to pupils across our school.
To raise funds, the children organised and sold ice creams after school, with an initial goal of raising £150 to purchase a Puppy Welcome Pack. This pack helps give a new guide dog puppy the best possible start in life, providing essentials such as a blanket, toys and treats.
The children were delighted to exceed their target and raise even more than they had hoped! A special well done to Councillor Renee, who designed a beautiful card to accompany the welcome pack for its new puppy recipient.
We are incredibly proud of our School Council for their hard work, teamwork and commitment to supporting such a worthwhile cause. 🐶💛
Year 4 Tudor Trip
Year 4 had a fantastic day immersing themselves in history during their visit to the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. The trip was packed with exciting hands-on learning that brought their Tudor topic to life.
As part of a special workshop, the children had the opportunity to dress up as rich and poor Tudors, have a go at using a quill to create Tudor-style writing, explore real artefacts, construct their own model Tudor houses and even make traditional pomanders using herbs and spices—just like the Tudors did to keep unpleasant smells away!
Where better to learn about the Tudors than our own historic town of Shrewsbury! We had a guided tour of the shuts, passageways, houses and businesses of Tudor Shrewsbury including henry Tudor Inn, Milk Street, Butchers Row and Candle Lane which we sketched.
