Headteacher Message

Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe there are only a few weeks left! The week started with a lot of tired people following England’s heroic exploits in Mexico City, and we had a great time watching the highlights in assembly. Hopefully, we will be able to sing Three Lions again on Monday morning!
It’s been a very busy week with lots happening behind the scenes getting things ready for next year and getting all 430+ reports ready to go out on Monday. Keep an eye out for your children handing you a sealed envelope with all the interesting highlights of their year!
Hopefully you will all have seen the incredible footage from Bernard’s edge-of-space adventure: my Saturday afternoon was spent with a long drive to rugby to find Bernard and his equipment hiding in a very prickly bush and I had the nettle stings to prove it! Unfortunately, the onboard data collection did not work – we were unable to download any altitude or temperature information, but it’s all good learning for the next go!
See the film here:
It’s been another warm week at school and some classes have made use of the shade in the Quarry Park this week, and EYFS had a visit to our friends at Gelatistry (I wasn’t invited)!
Next week is the final full week, but we will get to see who will lift the Summer House Cup – who will it be? It’s very, VERY close!
Have a super weekend, and COME ON ENGLAND!
Tom Larkham
Headteacher

Understanding your child
An exciting opportunity is coming to Coleham School.
In September, our pastoral leader Mrs Nash will be running the Understanding Your Child- From Toddler To Teen group alongside Grace, a member of The Shropshire Parenting Team.
These groups have been developed by a team of clinical psychologists, child psychotherapists, health visitors, child and family practitioners and most importantly parents/carers. Everything you’ll follow and learn in the group has been informed by experience and is designed to be practical, to help you and your family in your everyday family interactions.
The groups:
- Promote understanding of children’s behaviour within the context of how a child develops
- Promote the development of parent/child relationship
- Increase confidence and self-esteem in both parents and children
- Give parents a strategy for repair when things go wrong
- Promote reflective, sensitive and effective parenting
We look forward to welcoming you to our friendly, relaxed group where refreshments will also be provided.
To book your place or find out more, please register your interest with the school office and Mrs Nash will contact you.

Coleham School Weather Balloon Launch!

The Coleham School Weather Balloon was launched this morning!
Saturday 4th July 2026 @ 8:00am
Thank you to all the families that came along to our mission control on the school field and launched our pilot Bernard the Pachycephalosaurus into the stratosphere! Will it be a success, Where will he land? What data will we capture?

Coleham Weather Balloon: Mission Complete
Launch Date: Saturday 4th July 2026
Mission: Coleham School Weather Balloon 3
Mission complete… Bernard went (half-way) to SPACE! 🦖🚀✨
From an ambitious idea ➡️ to the clouds ➡️ towards the stars 🌟
A project led by Mr Larkham and his Space Cadets — combining science, teamwork and a huge sense of adventure.
A special thank you to @goexploro.co.uk for helping make this mission possible and bringing Bernard’s journey to life.
What an unforgettable moment for our Space Cadets and our whole school community!
See the videos below to see Bernard looking back at Earth from the edge of space on our live Dino Cam footage… a moment worth waiting for! 🌎🚀🦖
Mr Larkham and Polly were hot on the trail of the weather balloon GPS tracker on Saturday afternoon after a successful launch! As with any science experiment you can predict an outcome but can never be sure of the results, had we put enough helium in the balloon? Had we put too much helium in the balloon? Would Bernard go off course?
Bernard landed safely in Rugby and was collected shortly after 3pm in the afternoon.
Next it was time to see the data capture and view the mission through our Commander Bernard’s eyes. WOW!
What an adventure it’s been!
Unfortunately, the on board computer and datalogger failed to record temperature and altitude accurately, but we can try again on Mission 4!
Bernard now sits with Tony and George as a trio of Dinosaur pioneers to the stars!
Yr 2 enjoy a picnic
Summer has arrived, Year 2 enjoyed some sketching in The Dingle and a picnic.
DISCO!
Disco Time for KS2 and our Year 6 leavers of 2026! It’s always a pleasure to have DJ Andy with us. There were some amazing dance performances from TJ showcasing his Micheal Jackson, Billie Jean routine and Hugh’s Thriller performance! Our School Production cast enjoyed the final song of the evening from Tales Untold. From the Conga to football songs and the outside water station -an hour soon whizzed by!
A treat for Year 5
On Wednesday, year 5 were due to walk to the the Flaxmill, however due to the rising temperature it was deemed unsuitable to walk that far in the afternoon heat.
Not to fear though, as plans changed to visit the Dingle (another aspect of their geography work this term) and even played a game of rounders with Mr Halford, some football with Mr Hughes and sketching in the shade with Mrs Stennett alongside a picnic lunch!
Everyone had a great time, especially the teachers who dusted off their rounders skills and didn’t get at all competitive…
We love Gelatistry
We love supporting our local independent businesses, and this week the Badgers and Foxes enjoyed a delicious ice cream treat to help them cool off in the warm weather!
The children sampled a variety of flavours, including Strawberries & Cream, Stracciatella, Vanilla and Chocolate. There were lots of happy smiles all round, but the favourite flavour of the day belonged to Miss Cox, who chose Passionfruit Cheesecake! 🍦😊
Leavers Assembly 2026
A tear jerker for parents and all the excitement and emotions for our Class of Year 6 Leavers 2026. A showcase of fabulous performances from Ballroom Dancing to The Spice Girls celebrating each unique child. We are glad to have this lovely bunch with us for another 8 days and we will make sure its memorable! Then it will be our turn to get emotional as we say good bye and send them onto the next step of their journey.

Clay Workshop @ The Priory School
Thank you to The Priory School for hosting a clay workshop with Year 5! The children really enjoyed spending some time in a secondary environment.
