Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Another busy week has flown by!

Back to last week first, though: we were so impressed with the Year 1 footballers who played against Bowbrook!  There was some incredible talent and perseverance on show.  At least two footballs to the face for the Coleham team and they still pushed on to do their best – well done boys!

Staying on the the football theme, we had a wonderful email from a parent at Crowmoor School to comment on how gracious, well-behaved and sporting our Year 6 boys were when they recently played a friendly match.  Well done for representing us all so well.

I really enjoyed watching the music showcase concert on Wednesday.  Watching the children enjoy performing that much always gives such a smile inside – I am always amazed at how confident they are and I so glad that we can provide such a safe environment for our children to be able to put themselves out there.  I truly hope they all continue with music to help keep their lives full of the joy of performing.

Don’t forget Sports Days next week – hopefully the weather will continue.  We will let you know if there is any changes as soon as is humanly possible.

Have a super weekend, everyone!

Miles’ fundraising for school

Miles in Year 3 wanted to help fundraise for the school Plant & Craft Fair and so took it upon himself to write a letter to a flower company in Holland asking for plant donations.  Imagine our surprise when a large box from Holland arrived at school full of Dahlias!!  Miles has lovingly potted all of these up for sale and will be selling them at the Belle Vue Arts Festival Open Gardens trail on SUNDAY!  Do pop and see him if you can.

Fun Food Roadshow for Yr 2

Thank you to Year 2 families for joining us today for the FUN FOOD ROADSHOW!!  We had a blast! Team Red Chilli made a chicken noodle dish and Team Green Peas a vegan lentil curry all with our recommended daily portion of 7 vegetables.  The results were very close but Team Red Chilli just pipped it for the win!  Has Ben inspired you to help cook at home?

Barnabas Exhibition

Miss Heap, Mrs Caldwell and Miss Othen attended the evening pre-view of Belle Vue Arts Festival Barnabas Exhibition 2025.  We know the children will feel so proud seeing their work displayed amongst local Artists. Year 5’s Murmuration of Starlings installation was looking fabulous.

Festival Art Gallery

We don’t just love visiting Art Galleries but exhibiting in them too!  Every child has produced work for the Belle Vue Arts Festival Art Exhibition at the Barnabas Centre and they all visited this week to proudly view their art on display interspersed with other local artists work.  We really are All Artists at Coleham School!  The gallery is open to the public all day Saturday 10-4pm and I’m sure the children would love to take their grown ups for a tour.

Encore Musical Theatre

The best way to end a Friday!  Singing musical theatre in the outdoors!  What could be better for the soul than music and nature combined.  Always so much fun with Ernie from Encore Performing Arts.  Ernie will be running his club with us next year.

Year 4 perform Stand-Up Comedy Routines

In English, Year 4 have been cracking up during our stand-up comedy unit! This week, we worked on a shared write and a paired write, crafting clever jokes and puns inspired by real-life school experiences. The children chose to record a green screen video as their performance so our classroom became the Coleham Comedy Club this morning! Watch their side-splitting observational routines:

Year 1 Football Success! ⚽️

This afternoon, a group of our Year 1 children took to the school field for a friendly football match against Bowbrook. What a fantastic way to round off the week!

The children were an absolute credit to Coleham, demonstrating our school values beautifully throughout. They worked brilliantly as a team, played with enthusiasm, and showcased some fantastic football skills.

A special shoutout to Rio for scoring both goals in our 2-1 win—well done, Rio!
A huge well done to all the boys involved—you made us very proud! 👏

Thank you to Mr Aiston from Bowbrook for reffing the game and making it an enjoyable game of football.

Artbytes National Competition: Ben represents Coleham

Ben from Leopards class was selected to showcase his artwork at a presentation even in Walsall yesterday. His wonderful hand drawing of our school pet, Albus, at Christmas time was celebrated and he came away with a certificate of achievement. Well done to Freya and Fionn who were also recognised as runners up!

Yr 4 Tudor Day

🌹 Tudor Day was a huge success! The children enjoyed jousting, Morris dancing, designing shields, decorating Tudor rose biscuits, and visiting the ‘Coleham Globe’. A highlight was definitely putting poor Mr Karena in the stocks and throwing tomatoes at him! We finished the day by building our own Tudor-style structures in teams.

Reception children feed the ducks

The children in Reception enjoyed their trip to the river last week to feed the ducks. They wanted to know which food the ducks would enjoy best, it turns out that the oats were very popular!

Showcase Concert

We had our biggest Musical Showcase concert to date! 31 children performing who all learn an instrument and they were wonderful.  Mastering an instrument is a really tricky skill and requires so much practice, time and dedication so a huge well done to these children for their patience and perseverance.  It will bring you and others joy for the rest of your lifetime and we are proud that Coleham champions the arts and creative talents.
