Headteacher Message

Dear parents & carers,

Here we are at another end of the week – the weeks are flying by at the moment! There has been so much happening that it’s hard to capture it all in one message, but I’ll do my best to share some of the highlights with you.

Firstly, I am thrilled to report on the superb sporting behaviour displayed by our year 6 footballers. We received a lovely email from a parent from our host school, Crowmoor, congratulating our students on their exemplary conduct and sportsmanship. It’s moments like these that make us incredibly proud of our school community.  Well done, boys!

Our Design and Technology (DT) projects have been nothing short of fantastic. The creativity and innovation shown by the students have been remarkable. They have worked diligently on their projects, and the results are truly impressive. It’s wonderful to see their hard work and dedication pay off.

As well as a Tudor day in year 4; super DT work in year 3 and Crucial Crew for year 6, Madame Jones put on a spectacular performance of French language drama this week.  Well done to all involved!

A special mention must go to Mrs Caldwell for organising a wonderful art evening with the staff. It was a delightful event that showcased the incredible talent we have within our school. The work of our team can now be seen in our art gallery!  It was a fantastic opportunity for staff to come together and celebrate their artistic abilities.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. It’s been a busy but rewarding week, and we look forward to more exciting activities and achievements in the weeks to come.

Have a lovely weekend!

Thanks to our Catering Team for organising the Smoothie Bike visit! Some pedal Power and delicious fruit made smoothies for us all to taste. Great work from Year 6 for co-ordinating it all.

Poetry Showcase winners

Well done to Benjamin, Bethany and Fern winners of the Plant & Craft Fair Writing Competition themed around ‘Movement’.  Judged by the Belle Vue Arts Festival the children were invited to read their poem aloud at The Spoken Word Showcase to a live audience.  What an incredible experience to share their words with a group of local writers.  We hope this inspires your future creative writing!

Staff Exhibition

At Coleham, we are proud to say, “We are all artists!” and we’re not just talking about the children!  Inspired by the arty buzz generated by the Belle Vue Arts Festival, our wonderful artist in residence Mrs Caldwell organised an art lesson for the staff. What a wonderful way to promote wellbeing and bring people together. Just look at the beautiful watercolour and ink drawings the artists produced. They are now proudly displayed in our Art Gallery and the feedback from the children has been wonderful!

End-of-year friendly football matches with Crowmoor Primary

To round off a fantastic year of school football, we arranged a couple of friendly matches with Crowmoor Primary School – an exciting opportunity to strengthen community links and give our children the chance to enjoy sport in a supportive environment. The boys showed great effort, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. A big well done to them, and a heartfelt thank you to Crowmoor for hosting us!

Year 6 trip to Crucial Crew

Year 6 visited Shrewsbury Flaxmill for a Crucial Crew safety day. This included a variety of scenarios aimed to keep young people safe, such as fire safety, railway safety, alcohol safety, water safety and exploitation.

Everyone had a great day and of course were given their infamous Crucial Crew t-shirt!

Year 3 Monster Mayhem in DT

Year 3 completed their DT topic about pneumatic systems by making moving monsters.  They worked with a partner to design and make their creatures.  There was a variety of moving parts on show such as bulging brains, protruding tongues, and extending antennae. Finally, the children had a lot of fun demonstrating to the class how their finished monsters worked.

The Belle Vue Arts Festival Opens

The Belle Vue Arts Festival kicked off with its Lets Celebrate event down at Greyfriars Bridge. It was so busy with live music, free art, rowing and competitions. Lovely to see so many Coleham families enjoying it. Year 5’s movement artwork is on display brightening up the railings. Great job Year 5.

Year 4 cook Tudor Pottage

As part of their DT cooking lessons, Year 4 have been busy researching all about food available during Tudor times, ready to improve an existing recipe. They peeled, chopped, sprinkled and poured all of the vegetables, herbs, spices and stock into a giant pot to cook, then evaluated the aroma, appearance, texture and most importantly – taste!
