Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,
We’ve had a short but incredibly busy week this week as we gear up for the last half of this half-term (it’s sooo short!)
Yesterday, we celebrated 80 years of peace in our country since VE Day. It was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made, and hardship suffered, by normal people across the world during the Second World War. It was a chance for us to reflect on the importance of peace, especially considering that not everyone around the world is as fortunate today. Our children engaged in various activities to commemorate this significant milestone, and it was heartwarming to see their understanding and appreciation grow. A huge thanks goes to Mrs Stewart who was instrumental in getting things organised!
In Year 5, the students have been working on an exciting project that combines their love for storytelling with cutting-edge technology. They have been creating audio books and experimenting with AI to bring their writing to life. I’ve really enjoyed hearing their imaginative stories and see how they use technology to enhance their narratives. The creativity and enthusiasm they’ve shown has been great!
Looking ahead, we are really excited for the Plant & Craft Fair tomorrow. These events are a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together to celebrate and support one another. We have a variety of plants and crafts on display, as well as competitions, and I am sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy. I hope to see many of you there, as your presence and participation mean a lot to us. Community is at the heart of everything we do here at our school!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and looking forward to seeing you at the fair!
Warm regards,
Tom Larkham

School Street Reminders

Our School Street road closure of Greyfriars Rd is a fantastic achievement, making our community so much safer at the start and end of every day.
Please remember that Greyfriars Rd is closed to traffic from around 8:30 am to 9:00 am and again from around 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Please remember these key points:
- Residents are permitted to access their properties in cars. They will be allowed past the cones so please be mindful of this.
- Please remind any family members / friends that collect your children about the road closure. If they are parked up before the road closes, it would it would be preferable for them to wait until the road is open before leaving. The fewer cars moving on the street, the safer it is.
- Please wait for staff to move signs and cones and don’t move them yourselves.
- Parking is available across the bridge in St Julian’s – please remain respectful and courteous of our neighbours in Salter’s Lane, and please refrain from using the staff car park for safety reasons.
- Sometimes there are vehicles moving on the road – pedestrian road sense must still be applied.
Thanks everyone for helping to keep our school safe!

What does BELONGING mean to you?
In order to succeed, people need to feel that they belong.
The 3-18 Education Trust has launched a competition across all our schools for children to demonstrate what belonging means to them. They can show this is any creative way they can: writing, art, poetry, dancing, singing… anything!
Click here to see the launch video!
The winners from each school will win an Amazon voucher and the opportunity to be one of the first Belonging Ambassadors in our Trust.

VE Day Celebration
Today we enjoyed celebrating the 80 year anniversary of ‘Victory in Europe’ in true Coleham style. The children visited our air raid shelter, enjoyed a celebratory outdoor lunch and made commemorative pates and hats. Our 2 minutes silence honoured the soldiers and people of the past who all contributed to the war effort and a reminder of why peace and kindness are so important in the world we live in. We finished off the day with a music concert from the pupils @ Shrewsbury School. Thank you so much for performing such beautiful music in the sunshine. A lovely end to a lovely day. Thanks to Mrs Stewart for rallying our troops to make the day happen.

Year 5 create Audiobooks
Year 5 have been writing dual narrative stories. This means that the author has written alternating paragraphs from both characters’ points of view: the hunter and the hunted!
We then put our stories through an AI app to generate an image of our story and read them aloud to create audiobooks for you to listen to.
WARNING: some are quite scary – listen at your own risk!
