Headteacher Message

Dear families,

This first week back has gone by really quick, but 2026 has finally given us a hint of Spring after 54 days of grey which was lovely: the blossom is blooming and the daffodils are popping out to say “hello”.  The world is coming back to life!

This half term is only a short one, but there are plenty of things coming up: parents & carer consultations next week (don’t forget to book!); lots of trips; new clubs starting; school production; World Book Week (next week!) – so much to enjoy over the next few weeks!

I talked to the children about AMBITION in assembly this week and this second half of the Spring Term is the time for us all to show that ambition and find out what we are capable of.  This part of the year is often when things click and children makes great strides in their learning, so it is a very exciting time in school.

Hopefully we will see lots of you tonight at the Family Bingo with lots of prizes to win. I have been busy getting together a job description for the lucky Acting Headteacher who will get to have some important meetings, make important decisions, and be my boss for the day.  Who will it be?  What will they do?  I’m excited to find out!

Good luck to those who are coming, and I wish everyone a super weekend!

Friday

We’ll be celebrating World Book Day on Friday with Fancy Dress.

Non-Uniform– Children may come to school dressed to represent their favourite book or character.  Please don’t feel the need to buy expensive fancy dress for this occasion: the children are so keen on being eco-conscious and re-using items you already have at home.  Equally, please don’t feel any pressure to make an elaborate costume.  Here are some simple ideas below:

-re-use Halloween costumes (cats, witches, skeletons, wizards feature in lots of stories)

-re-use other costumes (animals, superheroes & princesses feature in lots of stories)

-characters wearing old fashioned clothes (Famous Five, World War stories)

-characters wearing pyjamas (BFG, I’m Going on a bear Hunt, The Polar Express)

-inspiration from sports stars/real life hero books

We understand that some children feel uncomfortable wearing fancy dress. They may choose to wear their own comfy reading clothes instead – we want all children to enjoy the day.

Lego Club

Our After School Lego Club is in full swing with the children creating from our brand new wildlife and space sets.

Pins & Needles Sewing Club

Sewing Club have made Kitten Mittens! from old sweatshirts.  The children learned how to make seams with small running stitches, creating two sets of ears: lots of pinning, cutting and perseverance needed.  With little woollen faces sewn into the main sections, the children furiously stitched the pieces together to finish a pair of cosy mitten.

A challenging project but a great way to use a preloved jumper!  Well done stitchers.
