Headteacher Message

Dear Families,
Some weeks drag on for months, some go by VERY quickly… this week was the latter!
We said a final goodbye to Mrs Caldwell on Wednesday after 13 years service to our community. In our assembly, EVERY pupil and adult raised their hand when asked if Mrs C had made some kind of impact on them, showing quite how important she has been.
Our sporting teams have impressed this week in both basketball and indoor athletics. The basketballers secured 2nd place in their tournament, and our athletes secured a second place for the boys, and the girls came out as WINNERS! A huge congratulations to all involved for showing the true Coleham Spirit and winning properly with grace and tenacity.
And finally, another big thank you needs to go to Harriet’s dad for taking time to show Year 5 a real-life satellite this week (which was out of this world) and Cece’s dad (aka The Hungry Guy) for hosting Friday Night Dinner last week (and tonight!), showing Year 4 children how to run their very own restaurant!
Have a super weekend everyone!

Friday Night Dinner!
Friday Night Dinner is back! This time its Year 4 pupils who have 90 minutes to cook a meal for 50 people. We adore this project and love teaming up with The Hungry Guy Chef Steve Guy and the Shrewsbury Food Hub.
What’s it all about? 12 brilliant Year 4 pupils, saving surplus food from being wasted, cooking a meal from scratch and creating a restaurant for all their families who join us at 5pm for dinner.
The children chop, prep, cook, lay the table, write the menu, arrange the flowers, clean down, serve, wait and finally enjoy the fruits of their labour with staff and families.
The Pasta Pomodoro with garlic bread and salad was delicious!
This project should be nation wide in every school across the country because what it achieves in 2 hours is extraordinary! Learning about hospitality & careers, building skills, independence, team work, boosting self-esteem and accomplishment and bringing a community together to share food and celebrate these amazing children. There is always a lot of love and laughter in the room.

Year 5 experience a satellite 🛰️
We are so lucky to have so many parents with out-of-this-world, really cool jobs!
Today, Harriet’s dad came to show us a real life satellite and talked to us about what they are used for and how they get into space.
It is always great to be able to experience out topics in real contexts and we would like to say a huge thank you to Paul for giving up his time and sharing his expertise with us. 🚀 🌙 🛰️
A Heartfelt Farewell to Mrs Caldwell
This evening, our staff room was filled with warmth, laughter, and more than a few happy tears as we gathered for a special afternoon tea in honour of a much‑loved member of our team, Mrs Caldwell who sadly leaves us today as she heads down south to join her family.
As we enjoyed tea, cake, and plenty of reminiscing, it quickly became clear just how much Mrs Caldwell means to all of us. Her dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to our pupils and wider school community makes her truly exceptional.
Although we are sad to see her go, we are incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed to our school. Her influence will be felt for years to come, not only in the progress the children have made but in the warmth and companionship among staff.
We wish Mrs Caldwell every success in the next chapter of her journey and hope she leaves knowing just how appreciated she is.
Indoor Athletics Competition
Two teams of Year 5 and 6 students represented the school at the School Games Indoor Athletics competition. Following last year’s fantastic results — with the girls’ team taking the win and the boys finishing 5th — there was a real sense of excitement and determination to perform just as well.
On arrival, the teams jumped straight into the events, and from the very first races the energy was high, with wins in both the opening races setting a brilliant tone for the day. As the competition went on, students approached each event with confidence and resilience. They were proud of their performances, and even when things didn’t quite go to plan, they showed great sportsmanship, stayed positive, and focused on the next challenge.
Once all events were completed, we reflected together on the strength of the competition and recognised that there were many strong teams from different schools. Regardless of the final results, everyone felt proud of the effort, attitude, and teamwork shown throughout the day.
The boys’ team were delighted to hear they finished joint second with Greenfields, with Oakmeadow taking the win. The girls’ team erupted with excitement when they were announced as back-to-back winners. This incredible achievement means they will go on to represent the whole of Shrewsbury at the County School Games final later in the year.
A massive well done to all involved, not only for their performances, but for the respect, encouragement, and support they showed to other schools, truly demonstrating the values of Coleham throughout the competition. 🌟

🎉 Celebrating Chinese New Year! 🐉
This week, our EYFS, Year 2 and Year 4 pupils immersed themselves in the vibrant traditions of Chinese New Year through an energetic Chinese Dragon Dance workshop. The hall burst into life as children learned how to bring the magnificent dragon to life. Their teamwork was wonderful to see.
the Year of the Horse in 2026 🐎. In Chinese culture, the horse symbolises strength, energy and a free spirit — qualities we love to see in our learners.
To continue the celebrations, our school kitchen served a delicious Chinese‑themed lunch menu 🍜
