Headteacher Message

Dear Families – we made it!
This half-term has only been 5 weeks, but it has been SO busy and SO much has happened. Over the whole Spring Term, we have seen an incredible amount of effort from all our children. The children, and all of you, can be very proud.
Spring is always the best part of the school year as it is when we see progress really happening in the classrooms after months of toil throughout the darkness of autumn and winter. I am very pleased, as are the wider Trust, with the successes of our School Community. We have yet again shown the strength, togetherness and belonging that make our community so strong.
Yesterday we said good bye to the wonderful Mrs Moore – a great example of our great community wrapped up in one irreplaceable person. She leaves a little bit of herself in all of us so we can make sure her kindness and compassion continues at Coleham. We are so lucky to not only have had Mrs Moore for the past 10 years, but the many other staff that demonstrate the kindness, compassion and care that helps everybody.
Now we have the summer to look forward to: better weather (hopefully); afternoons on the field; sports days; Year 6 Leavers’ assembly; meeting new teachers and getting ready for September. It’s a very exciting time and I hope you are all looking forward to it as much as I am.
EXCITING SCIENCE PROJECT HELP NEEDED!
This term, our Space Cadets club has been planning a weather balloon launch, bigger and better than the one launched in 2022 that we want to make a huge community event in the summer. We are planning to launch late June or early July, but need to source some helium. If anyone works in construction, or knows someone who does that also has access to helium bottles, we need either a 1x 30L bottle, or 2x 20L bottles. It would be a great sponsorship opportunity! You can see the video from the previous 2022 launch here: 2022 COLEHAM SPACE AGENCY BALLOON

Whatever you are doing over the next 2 weeks, I hope you enjoy it, feel relaxed and spend time with loved ones.
All the best

Good bye Mrs Moore

Today we have said a farewell to the inimitable Mrs Moore: she will be retiring from her role at Coleham Primary School at the end of March.
As the first face many visitors to our school sees, Mrs Moore has been a deeply valued member of our school community over many years. Over the past decade, she has made a lasting contribution to the life of the school and to the children and families she has worked with. Her care, love, commitment and professionalism have meant a great deal to all: colleagues, pupils and parents alike.
We don’t say goodbye because it’s over: we say thank you because it happened.
While she has chosen to step away from school life quietly, it is important to us that we properly acknowledge her service and express our sincere thanks. Maria leaves us with our respect, appreciation and very best wishes for the future.
Maria has asked me to say that she feels incredibly lucky to have had what she describes as “the best job in the world, surrounded by the most wonderful colleagues and families.”
She will miss the children, the friendships and the varied & brilliant interactions every day that have made Coleham such a special place for her, and she wishes everyone in the Coleham Community all the very best for the future.
We know our families will want to join us in thanking her for everything she has given to the school, and we wish her a happy and fulfilling retirement.

Choir Club perform @ Hazledine
🎶 Mr William’s Lunchtime Choir Club has been very popular
Today they performed to an audience and brought music and joy to the residents of Hazledine Court with an afternoon performance. The choir took on some impressively challenging numbers, including favourites from Wicked and High School Musical.
Music is so good for the soul and everyone can take part and enjoy singing whatever their musical ability. It was lovely to see children have a go at some solos leaving the audience smiling! Just wonderful! We are so lucky to have so many talented musicians on our staff.

🌼 Easter Competition with Co‑op Funeralcare 🌼
We were delighted to take part in an Easter colouring competition organised by Co‑op Funeralcare for our pupils.
Well Done to our winning children, who each received a delicious Easter egg as their prize. Thank you to Co‑op Funeralcare for their generosity and for helping make this Easter extra special for our school community.

Spring Term Cups
Today we presented the Spring Term Cups in assembly and celebrated the recipients but also celebrated all the children in school who have worked incredibly hard and had a brilliant Spring Term. You should all be very proud families as we break up for Easter.

From all the thousands of Dojo points amassed , the Spring Term Cup was awarded to QUARRY!

✂️✨ Pins & Needles Sewing Club
Mrs. Renshaw’s Pins & Needles Sewing Club has been busy stitching up something special. Our young sewers have been working hard, and the results are just gorgeous.
Look at these beautiful pillows they’ve created — each one unique, colourful, and full of personality! 🌈🪡🧸
Thank you to Mrs Renshaw who has developed these young sewers💖🧵
Year 3/4 Easter Enterprise
Year 3 and Year 4 were busy bees with Ms Wisdom as they created delicious Easter cakes and Easter baskets for sale✨
Great teamwork went into making their goodies, which were sold after school as part of their enterprise event.
Thank you to everyone who came along to support their hard work!
Tag Rugby and Football Competition
Two teams of girls and boys from Year 6 attended Shrewsbury College to take part in a football and tag rugby tournament run by Embrace, which had been postponed due to bad weather.
The tag rugby team played brilliantly, winning and drawing matches to secure 3rd place in the tournament. One thing that was particularly pleasing to see was that, no matter the result, they went over to shake hands with the opposing team. They also showed great sportsmanship when a child from another school was injured, all going over to check he was ok at the end of the game. Well done to the tag rugby team!

The football team was supported by Mr Williams, who said they played brilliantly. One goal in particular stood out, as the team worked well together to win the ball, pass it through the midfield and out wide, before crossing it in and finishing it nicely into the goal. They played fantastically and were able to claim 2nd place, only losing one game to the tournament winners. Very well done to the team!

EYFS Trip to the Imagination Playground
Our EYFS children had a fantastic time visiting Shrewsbury Museum to explore the Imagination Playground! 🏰✨
The children fully immersed themselves in a range of exciting, hands-on activities. They worked together to set up a grand banquet, sparking lots of creativity and teamwork. Dressing up was a big highlight, with the children enjoying role play as kings, queens, knights, and even dragons!
There were plenty of opportunities to relax and share stories too, as the children listened to tales of dragons, princesses, and princes. They also got creative by designing and drawing their own shields, as well as making crowns fit for royalty.
Using large construction materials, the children collaborated to build their very own castles, and they loved exploring different “treasures” as part of their imaginative play.
It was wonderful to see such creativity, cooperation, and enthusiasm throughout the day. We are so proud of all the children for their fantastic engagement and imaginative ideas—well done, Foxes and Badgers! 🌟
Year 6 visit Shrewsbury Museum for Evolution Workshop.
This week, Elephants and Giraffes visited Shrewsbury Museum to take part in an workshop about evolution, inheritance and adaptations. The workshop is part of their new science topic, where the children are learning about how living things have changed over time, understanding fossils and how plants and animals adapt to their environment.
Year 6 enjoyed looking at a range of fossils and identifying which types they were from their characteristics. The children also learnt about how Shropshire has changed over time and discussed the work of Charles Darwin. Finally, year 6 learnt about how humans have evolved and how bodies have changed.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and really impressed the facilitator, Ali, with their fossil knowledge!
Yayoi Kusama inspired worlds
Step inside the curious minds and imaginations of our wonderful Year 4 children and their Yayoi Kusuma inspired worlds via their shoebox art installations. We adore them and would love to live inside them for an afternoon! A fantastic Art and DT project accessible to all children. Thank you to all the parents and grand parents that came in today to support the children bring their vision to life. Well done Year 4!
Easter Garden
School families joined Coleham Prayer Group for cake, pebble decorating and lots of moss as they came together to create the School Easter Garden on the first day of Spring. Special thanks to Hwei Hwei Chan for providing the wonderful planter. Well done everyone!
Coco the bunny joins in bedtime stories
Coco the bunny joined in for bedtime stories. Year 4 dressed in their pyjamas and read their bedtime stories to their Year 2 reading buddies. What a great way to end their writing unit ready for Easter break! Its always great to have a purpose for writing and an audience to hear our fantastic stories.

Eco Coding Workshop
Year 6 pupils visited Harper Adam’s campus today for an Eco Coding workshop! An intense brain stretching kind of day for this fab team of girls.
