Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

As we reach the end of this term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve all been on together. What a term it has been! From the successful sports events to the amazing musical performances and class assemblies, our children have blown our socks off!

Our sports teams have shown skill and teamwork, bringing home several trophies and making us all proud. Equally impressive have been the musical talents displayed by our pupils.

But more than that, I am immensely proud of everyone’s efforts this term. Our children have demonstrated resilience and a positive attitude, embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and have made the most of their learning in and out of the classroom. Our dedicated staff have gone above and beyond to support and nurture our children, ensuring they have the best possible learning experience.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the constant support of our parents & carers.  Your encouragement and involvement have been invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for your partnership.

As we head into the well-deserved break, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone. Enjoy this time with your families, recharge, and come back refreshed for another exciting term ahead.

Wishing you all a wonderful and restful break!

Warm regards,

Tom Larkham

KS1 Morning Drop Off Changes

On return to school after Easter, we ask that Year 1 and Year 2 parents kindly leave the school site promptly after dropping their child off in line with school staff.

This works smoothly and calmly across the rest of school but we have noticed that there are large numbers of parents staying on the KS1 playground which is becoming busy and tricky for staff to supervise the children.  We employ staff from 8.40am to supervise children outside from 8.40- 8.50am so please be reassured that it is absolutely fine to drop your children off and leave.  We actively encourage this to ensure a quiet and organised start to the day where staff greet the children.  Of course, Teachers are also here to help parents with any queries, messages or concerns they may have so please do take this opportunity if you need to speak with staff.

Thank you for supporting us with this.

House Competition Winners!

This week, the Year 6 House Captains have completed their lunchtime competitions, which included a skipping competition for KS1 and basketball shoot out for KS2. A big well done to the House Captains for organising and running the games.

After combining all of the scores, the winners of the games were Greyfriars, closely followed by Darwin, then Quarry and Severn.

Year 6 Evolution Workshop at Shrewsbury Museum

Year 6 had a great trip to Shrewsbury Museum! They took part in an evolution workshop as part of their new science topic.

The children looked at fossils of trilobites, discovered how living things have adapted to their environments and learnt about the adaptations of humans.

Year 6 enjoyed sketching adaptations of birds and looked at how humans’ skulls have changed over time. A very exciting day out!

For our final DT project this term the children in Reception enjoyed making some Easter Nest cakes. The children learnt lots about being safe when using a hob, and how to manage kitchen equipment safely.

EYFS pupils make healthy wraps

As part of our DT topic the children in Reception have been designing and making healthy wraps. The children used a range of kitchen tools to peel, cut and grate each item. According to the children they were the best wraps ever!

Year 6 visit – Shrek at Meole Brace School

On Wednesday, year 6 were lucky enough to visit Meole Brace Secondary School to watch their performance of ‘Shrek – The Musical’.

What a great show it was! The whole of year 6 enjoyed the  singing, dancing and great acting

the students.

Easter Disco!

The younger children enjoyed an Easter Disco to celebrate the end of term and learn some new dance moves!

Shrewsbury Quarry Cross Country

A huge well done to our incredible team of runners who took part in the recent Quarry Run Cross Country Competition. It was a real pleasure to run alongside the beautiful River Severn and through the stunning grounds of the Quarry. The children showed fantastic determination and team spirit throughout the event.

A big thank you to Shrewsbury High School for hosting such a brilliant day. We’re so proud to share that we had several 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes, with the U11 boys and U11 girls teams coming 1st overall, and the U9 boys and U9 girls finishing 2nd overall — what a fantastic achievement!

⚽ We’re through to the Finals!

Congratulations to our amazing U9 boys footballers who have made it through to the finals of the SSCFA Tournament.

After winning their group stage, they faced Gobowen Primary School in the semi-final. Despite going 1–0 down in the first half, the boys regrouped and came back stronger than ever — scoring an incredible 5 goals in the second half to secure a 5–1 win!

A special shout-out to Bray, who scored four goals, and Jesse, who added another to the tally. What an amazing team effort — your resilience, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm were a joy to witness.

We’re now eagerly waiting to hear who we’ll face in the finals. Well done, boys — you’ve done Coleham proud! 🏆

The Easter Bunny Visits Year 4

Year 4 were treated to a special visit from the Easter Bunny’s helper, Coco, who was busy all morning hiding Easter eggs around the woodland area for them to find! We also had a a scientific discussion about where Coco might fit into the food chain (if she wasn’t a spoiled princess with her own room!)

Year 4 Trip to PGL Residential

Year 4 had an amazing time at PGL last week – for lots of children, it was their first time sleeping away from home and their families. They had a blast, trying everything from raft-building to abseiling and singing songs around the campfire! Their behaviour was exemplary throughout and they were a credit to Coleham. It was a privilege to watch the pupils grow in confidence, persevere and face their fears, as well as getting to know them more as people. A huge thanks to all the staff involved.

Egyptian Day

Year 3 enjoyed being Egyptians for the day to ‘wrap up’ their history topic.  It’s been a fun filled day packed with Egyptian activities. We’ve been stepping back in time to build pyramids, make mummies, write hieroglyphs on papyrus, play Egyptian games, taste food and more! What a lovely way to end the term.
