Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

This week, the school has been transformed into the magical world that is a Primary School Christmas!  Lots of lovely hand-made decorations are hanging from the walls; the fairy lights are up; the costume cupboards have been raided and the muffled sound of carols and rehearsals for the big Nativity shows are coming through my office wall… Christmas is nearly here!

We’re really looking forward to the Nativity shows starting Monday 8th December in a week or so, but in the meantime, normal school is still very much GO!

We’ve had more sporting success in football and netball this week – well done to all the children involved: it’s so wonderful to see and hear about our children working so well together to succeed and enjoy themselves as they do it.  It’s what being at Coleham is all about!  Well done, also, to Miss Lewis, Mr Halford and Mr Hughes for all they are doing to ensure that our children are active, engaged and working together as teams in The Coleham Way to bring about success.

A huge well done to QUARRY who were the first House of 2025-26 to lift the House Cup for winning the Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS) challenge in last week’s Maths Week!  I haven’t been on TTRS for some time – my avergage time of 0.75s per question has been at the top of the leaderboard since 2019, and after having a go earlier this week, my average has slipped to 1.23s, meaning I am no longer top.  This is a terrible place for a Headteacher to be (I blame an ageing mind) but I will persevere and regain the top spot!  There are, however, a couple of Year 5 children who are intent on scuppering that!

Thank you all for your continued support and cheeriness on the gate!  Have a lovely weekend.

Rudolf Run- Wednesday 3rd December

On Wednesday 3rd December, we will be hosting a Christmas Charity Fun Day! We will be taking a day off curriculum to fundraise for Severn Hospice.
Our Rudolph Relay will consist of running the distance from the Arctic Circle to the North Pole – a total of 1,600 miles!
This charity event helps Severn Hospice provide free, specialist care for local people at the most difficult time of their lives. It’s also a brilliant way for the children to get active in the run-up to Christmas while learning about the importance and power of community.
Severn Hospice will be providing reindeer antlers for every child, along with a visit from a reindeer mascot. Therefore, we kindly ask that each child brings a minimum donation of £2 to support the hospice’s vital work. Please ensure your child hands their cash donation to their Class Teacher on Wednesday morning.
Non-Uniform Day – Children and staff can dress as reindeers (brown clothing and red noses) or wear any Christmas-themed clothes they have at home. Trainers must be worn, as all children will be taking part in running activities.
What do our organisers Miss Lewis and Mr Hughes have in store for us!
  • 🎤 Whole-school assembly featuring Rudolph
  • 💃 Zumba warm-up with Mrs Stewart
  • 🏃‍♂️ 30-minute Rudolph Run per year group
  • 🏃‍♀️ Whole-school 30-minute Rudolph Run
  • 🎶 Whole-school song for parents at 2:45pm outside on the middle playground
  • 🎨 Whole-School House Competition – Designing Antlers

This promises to be a fun day full of fitness, Christmas cheer and all for a very worthwhile local cause.

Kind regards,

Miss Lewis

Year 6 Evacuee Day

This week, Year 6 were transported back to 1940 to experience a day in the life of a WW2 evacuee. Each child was given a character for the day with a different evacuation experience.

The children made gas mask boxes and created identity cards, which they had to keep with them all day. They were billeted and inspected by ‘Major Williams’ and interviewed other evacuees about their experiences.

In the afternoon, the children made mini Anderson shelters in groups. We were lucky enough to have real artifacts from WW2 brought in by children and parents.

Here are the highlights from our day:

U9 County Cup Football Tournament Success

A very cold but incredibly successful evening for this brilliant group of boys! They showcased some fantastic football, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience and determination throughout every match. They were an absolute pleasure to take out and represented Coleham proudly.

The team spirit was high, with constant encouragement and support for one another. After winning their group stage and then their semi-final, the final ended 0–0, taking the game to penalties. Following a tense run of penalties, the boys finally scored the winning penalty; an impeccable achievement!

Well done, boys! We will now wait to see who we are up against in the next stage. An amazing accomplishment!

Outstanding Netball Tournament Victory

This group of netballers showcased yet another fantastic tournament performance, winning all three of their matches with confidence and teamwork. It was a brilliant display of skill, determination and sportsmanship, and a wonderful representation of Coleham. Well done, girls, you should be incredibly proud!

Celebrating Maths Week!

Last week, Coleham celebrated maths week by taking part in lots of maths challenges!

Mr Sherred, Maths Teacher from The Priory School, came in and held a maths challenge game for some of our year 5 and 6 pupils. The children really enjoyed playing Hanabi, where they had to use probability skills.

Lots of classes held a reasoning and problem solving lesson, involving estimation, logical reasoning and following formulas. Mrs Ward’s Year 6 maths group took part in the Primary Maths Challenge – well done to everyone for taking part. We are awaiting the results to see if we have made it through to the national round!

Our House Captains held some maths games at lunchtime for KS1 and KS2, which were extremely popular! Well done to our winners.

Finally, Coleham held its first ‘House Times Tables Competition’ on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) A huge congratulations to everyone that took part. Our winners were Quarry!

Whales’ History Debate

As part of our History learning on significant figures, we debated whether Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni, should be considered a heroine today.

The pupils came up with so many mature and thoughtful arguments and counter-arguments!
