Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

A very warm welcome to everyone back to school after the half-term break.  I hope that many of you were able to take advantage of the extra couple of days to really make the most of any family time!

Coleham School has been back to it like we never stopped, with lots already happening in the past 4 days!  On Monday, the whole staff joined the other schools in our 3-18 Education Trust for our annual conference where we were able to network with colleagues, share best practice and access high-quality training.

Keep an eye out for upcoming events, including the Christmas Nativities, the Christmas Mingle and the Smartphone-Free Childhood meeting.  This meeting (20th November; 5pm) is open to all parents across the school who may be concerned about their children’s use of smartphones either now or in the future, and would like some support or advice to be able to make more informed choices for their children’s mental health and wellbeing.  This joint effort between parents/carers and school will be supported by representatives from Smartphone-Free Childhood Shropshire, and Jeremy Tudor from the Priory School.  No need to book: just come along!

Please also remember to make sure you have booked your Parent/Carer Consultation next week for the 13th or 14th Nov (or the 20th and 21st if your child is in Rabbits Class).

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Also, don’t forget our Smartphone Free Information Evening where we will be opening up the conversation for alternatives to Smart Phones for children and thinking about what parents can do to set boundaries at home and check their child is safely using devices.  We have guest speakers Deputy Headteacher Mr Tudor from The Priory School explaining the common e-safety issues their Teachers deal with and some parent speakers from The Smartphone Free Childhood movement.  It should be an interesting and enlightening session, informing you of the risks of social media and smart phones from new research and thinking about What age is the right age for my child to have a smartphone?

Staff Conference 2024

A fantastic day for our staff at The 3-18 Education Trust Conference!

There were over 15 workshops to choose from and some brilliant minds to help us reflect on topics such as Inclusive leadership and the PACE approach Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity & Empathy strategies to help children engage in learning.  Dr Dan Cumber explained using positive relationships to heal and support trauma and attachment needs in children.  Lots of great takeaways for us to grow and improve as individuals and a team!

Keynote speaker Jaz from The Apprentice told us about the interactions she had faced at school from everyday heroes  to help her defy the odds and push through the barriers placed on her.

She made us laugh, cry and motivated us to be 10% braver and believe in our own stories so we can make a difference to children’s lives.

Enthusiastic Year 2 children engage in fun-filled Multiskills event

Fourteen Year 2 children attended Meole Brace Secondary School for a fantastic multiskills engagement session led by the sports leader students. The children participated in a variety of exciting games, including ‘Escape the Swamp,’ ‘Robin Hood,’ football skills, netball skills, dodgeball, and more. They fully engaged in every activity with enthusiasm and big smiles. Each child should be incredibly proud of the way they challenged themselves to improve while embodying the Coleham values.

Impressive team effort in a Football Match against Greenfields

A team of Year 6 boys’ played a spirited football match against Greenfields, showing determination and teamwork throughout. Despite their best efforts, the final score was 3-0 in Greenfields’ favour. Our players displayed great sportsmanship and resilience, working hard and supporting each other on the field. They should all be proud of their efforts and the way they represented Coleham with pride.

Remembrance Service

Some of our School Councillors and Miss Nash attended a Remembrance Service held at the War Graves, Longden Road Cemetery.  They met up with The Priory School and Shrewsbury Colleges Group to represent young people in Shropshire.  The children represented our school so well, remembering the soldiers that have given their lives in active duty all over the world.
