Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Here we are at the end of a week, a term and 2025!  What a term it has been…

We celebrated 30 years of service for two members of staff, an achievement that speaks to the commitment and continuity that underpin our school. Every child took part in our Christmas Nativities, and Miss Armstrong’s drama club delivered a superb performance at the Flaxmill last night that gave our pupils a platform to shine and tell a very important local story. On the sports front, there have been several fixtures and a good number of victories, with teams showing resilience and sportsmanship.

Trips have taken place far and wide across all year groups, building confidence and curiosity beyond the classroom. We have welcomed a range of experiences, workshops and visitors, connecting learning to the wider world. Community events and charity fundraising have brought families together for good causes, and our parent career talks have opened windows into different paths and possibilities. Dance and singing events added joy to the calendar and gave children a chance to celebrate what they can achieve. We have squeezed a lot in!

I want to thank all the staff for their hard work, care and professionalism, and all our parents for their support and encouragement. On that note, we have also been nominated for the ARC Alex Timpson Award recognising our work with disadvantaged children, particularly those affected by attachment and childhood trauma. This nomination is a testament to the care and love our staff show each day, and to the belief that every child can thrive with the right relationships and support.

Looking ahead to 2026, we know it will bring highs and lows, and we will face them together with the same steady focus on our values and on the children. I wish every one of you a very merry Christmas, a restful holiday and a happy New Year (but watch out for the cheeky Tomte on Christmas Eve!).

Happy Christmas!

🎅🚁 A magical moment in the skies!

Following a festive Santa flyby, an RAF Shawbury helicopter circled over Coleham School at 1:18pm, with the crew waving down to delighted pupils and staff below.

It was a simple but an unforgettable gesture — lifting spirits, sparking excitement and bringing us outside for a moment of JOY!

Huge thanks to RAF Shawbury for taking the time to make the day extra special ✨

Art Competition Winners for The Flaxmill Programme

KS2 pupils were invited to enter our art competition to design the front and back covers of our programme for Drama Club’s upcoming production of The Flaxmill, which will be performed on Friday for staff and pupils. There were lots of brilliant entries this year – everyone who entered will be awarded a Dojo for their hard work. All of the artwork has been photocopied and will be displayed in the foyer for visitors to see.

This year’s winner was…Charlie! His design will feature on the front cover of the programme. The four runners up, whose designs will feature on the back cover were…Renee, Hector , Matilda and Flo!
The programmes will be sold to parents and carers at the show at the Flaxmill tomorrow.

Christmas Lunch

🎄✨ What a wonderful Christmas dinner at Coleham Primary School!
A huge thank you to Chef Manager Miss Perry and the Kitchen Team, who worked tirelessly to produce a whopping 500 festive dinners for both Coleham and Bowbrook Primary School.  They made it look easy, and backstage in the kitchen there was a surprising aura of calm.

It was lovely to see everyone dressed in their festive clothes with Christmas songs on, sharing smiles, and truly feeling the Christmas spirit.  🎅🎄

Reception’s Christmas Theatre Trip

After enjoying their Christmas Dinner, our Reception children were treated to a special trip to Theatre Severn 🎭

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved Tales from Acorn Wood were beautifully brought to life on stage, packed full of toe-tapping songs, delightful puppetry, and all our favourite friends from Acorn Wood 🌳🐭🦊

There was lots of excitement throughout the show — especially for poor old Fox who lost his socks! 🧦🦊

Sewing Club

Merry Christmas from Sewing Club!

They’ve completed some lovely projects below.  Make sure you sign up for the new year!

The Suitcase Storytellers

We were honoured to welcome The Suitcase Storytellers from Reachout Arts Company to our school for two truly wonderful Christmas performances.

Knowing this marks the company’s final show as they wrap up their journey together made the experience even more special.

Thank you, Suitcase Storytellers, for reminding us of the power of theatre to connect, inspire, and uplift. 🎭✨

Year 6 heart dissection

This week, Year 6 had an unforgettable science lesson as part of their topic on the circulatory system. The highlight was watching Mr Larkham dissect a real heart and lungs!

Both classes gathered around as Mr. Larkham carefully demonstrated how the heart works, showing its chambers, valves, and blood vessels up close. Pupils were fascinated to see how this incredible organ pumps blood around the body. They were also able to see first-hand how important the lungs are in the circulatory system as this is where the oxygen that we breathe is absorbed into the blood stream

The children asked brilliant questions and made thoughtful observations, linking what they had already found out about the circulatory system in a previous lesson. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that brought science to life!

Thanks to Mr Larkham for taking time out of his day to do this dissection.

Nativity Animals Visit

✨ A Magical Nativity Visit ✨
Today our EYFS and Year 1 children were delighted by some very special visitors from the stable — a donkey, a turkey, a sheep, some Chickens and even a rat! 🐴🦃🫏🐀

A truly memorable experience, bringing the Christmas story to life in a gentle and curious way 🌟💫

The Flaxmill – A Coleham Production

An Incredible Celebration of Local History and the Arts

Coleham School pupils achieved something truly extraordinary with The Flaxmill — an awe-inspiring, on-site drama production performed inside The Dye House at The Flaxmill itself! This rare and unforgettable opportunity allowed pupils to step directly into history, performing where mill workers once lived and laboured.

The children wowed the audiences, English Heritage Staff and even the Mayor who came to watch!

Created and produced by Miss Armstrong, the production brought Shrewsbury’s industrial past vividly to life through powerful storytelling based on real historical records. Working in partnership with The Flaxmill Museum, pupils researched real people from the early 19th century, transforming their stories into moving performances that captivated audiences.

The children performed in the world’s first iron-framed building — forged with iron made in Coleham — made the experience even more meaningful, connecting place, history and performance in a truly remarkable way. We are incredibly proud of the pupils and deeply grateful to Miss Armstrong, Mrs Marghella and Mrs Porrett for creating such an unforgettable, confidence-building evening that will stay with them for years to come.
