Headteacher Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wow: what a wonderful week it has been! From our EYFS/KS1 nativity to today’s final KS2 performance, the singing, dancing and acting from our children has been nothing short of beautiful. It gives me such joy to see them performing with such confidence and happiness; today’s KS2 show was something else. I don’t think I’ve ever seen children perform so well while clearly enjoying themselves – what a treat for us all!

Watching them this week made me reflect on how far school nativities have come from my own last nativity appearance back in 1988, when this particular innkeeper couldn’t be trusted with any lines and spent most of the time picking his nose! Thankfully, we’ve moved on an awful lot since then. The creativity, teamwork and care our staff and pupils put into these productions is inspiring, and your support with costumes, rehearsals and the cheering from the pews makes all the difference. Thank you.

Christmas has definitely started for me now, and as we head into our final week of term there’s lots to look forward to. We’ll be announcing the winners of the House Cup, sitting down together for our Christmas dinner, and rounding off the term with that real sense of achievement our children have earned. It’s been a long and busy term, and I am so proud of the effort, kindness and resilience our pupils have shown throughout.

A special thank you to all the staff and volunteers who have given their time and energy to make this week such a success, and to you, our families, for your encouragement and enthusiasm. Moments like these remind us what a strong, joyful community we are.

Have a lovely weekend, and thank you for sharing the magic of Christmas with us.

Warm wishes,

Tom Larkham

✨ A Wonderful Christmas Nativity! ✨

Our EYFS, Year 1, and Year 2 children absolutely shined in their Christmas Nativity. They lit up the stage and warmed our hearts — we are so proud of every single one of them!

Thank you to all our families for joining us to celebrate the children this Christmas.

We are also incredibly grateful to Holy Trinity Church for welcoming us into such a beautiful space. It was the perfect setting for our festive performance.

🌟 Year 5 Design & Make: Vegetarian Bakes! 🌟

Year 5 have been busy designing and creating their own delicious vegetarian bakes — and the results were incredible!

From unique flavour combinations to creative shapes and beautifully presented designs, the children showcased fantastic imagination and skill.

Our Chef Manager, Miss Perry, was thoroughly impressed with their talent and attention to detail! 👩‍🍳✨

School Council come up with meal ideas

Our School Councillors Help Shape the New Winter Menu!

This week, our School Councillors met with Miss Perry, our Chef Manager, to share a fantastic collection of winter meal ideas gathered from their classmates. They spoke confidently about the dishes pupils would love to see as the weather turns colder, including comforting favourites such as roast dinners, mac and cheese, fruit crumbles, and sticky toffee pudding.

Miss Perry was delighted with their thoughtful suggestions, and many of these ideas will be included in our new Winter Menu, launching in January.

A big well done to our Councillors for representing their peers so enthusiastically  🍽️✨

🌟 Christmas Makers Market Magic! 🌟

Our children have absolutely astonished us with their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit at our first Christmas Makers Market.  From handcrafted wands and festive badges to delicious fudge, biscuits, baubles, reindeer food, decorations, cards, elf cake, bracelets and so much more — the variety and quality of their products were simply incredible!  A huge well done to all the children and grown ups involved and a special thank you to parent Nikki for co-ordinating the event!  It was brilliant and raised a massive £650 for school.

🌟 Inspiring Teaching in Action! 🌟

Year 4 class were treated to an unforgettable lesson from Mr. Larkham. Drawing on his zoological background, he brought the world of animal diets to life in the most engaging and hands-on way.

Pupils explored how different teeth are perfectly adapted to the diets of herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores—while examining a fascinating range of real skulls. Fun fact: Howard, Mr. Larkham’s much-loved pet cat, was even part of the skull collection! A touching reminder that every animal has a story, even in science lessons.

Indoor Cricket Tournament Champions!

A group of ten Year 4 children went to the Sports Village to represent Coleham in an indoor cricket event. They played brilliantly, winning every game in their group except one, which they lost by just a single point. This still meant they topped the group and progressed to the semi-final.

They absolutely smashed the semi-final and secured their place in the final. The final was extremely close, but thanks to some fantastic hits and even better catches, they came away as overall winners of the tournament.

Each and every one of the children played amazingly, all doing their part to secure the win as a team. An incredible performance, well done to all!

Celebrating the Mayor’s Christmas Card winners 🏆

The Mayor of Shrewsbury recently faced one of the toughest decisions of the year — choosing winners for the annual Christmas Card Contest. With lots of entries from children across the town, the talent on display was remarkable and there were 2 Coleham winners in his Top Five🎨✨

Congratulations to Winner Chloe in Year 6 who shone brightly among all entrants. Her beautiful artwork of The Square at Christmas — complete with festive wreaths, sparkling trees, and Shrewsbury’s iconic loggerheads — captured the magic of our town. 🎄🌟 Her design wasn’t just a picture; it was a celebration of everything that makes Shrewsbury feel like home during the festive season. ❤️🏘️

The Mayor also recognised outstanding runners-up whose artwork stood out for its charm and originality which included ❄️ Freya  from Year 6 with a beautiful illustration.

Well Done to all the children who entered, keep participating and grasping those opportunities to share your talents.

🌟 Congratulations to Laurie! 🌟

Laurie has been selected as a winner in The 3-18 Education Trust Belonging Competition, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Pupils were invited to express what Belonging means to them—through art, music, writing, or any creative form. Laurie chose a beautiful and meaningful approach: she baked her own bread using spices from around the world, symbolising how different cultures come together to create something warm, nourishing, and shared.

Her creation is a perfect celebration of cultural belonging and the idea that our differences enrich us.

✨ Well done, Laurie—your creativity is inspiring! ✨

Advent wreath making

Coleham Prayer Group and families enjoyed a festive gathering to make these lovely wreaths for advent.
