Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Here we are at the end of a long term and wind everything up for Christmas.

We started the countdown to the final week with a beautiful concert at St Alkmund’s Church, where Mrs. Porrett’s choir impressed a paying audience. Our pupils also spread holiday cheer by delivering Christmas cards throughout the community, bringing smiles to many faces, and this week’s Christmas dinner on Wednesday was a great event, with all children and staff coming together to enjoy a festive meal.  Many thanks to Mel and her team in the kitchen working hard to make hundreds of Christmas dinners (you think your Christmas meal prep is hard!?).

Miss Armstrong’s drama club has today given a stellar performance of A Christmas Carol, showcasing the incredible talent and hard work of our young actors, and our movie night was a huge success, filled with laughter and fun. We’ve also had a memorable trip to the theatre for EYFS to see the Owl Who Came For Christmas, which was a real hoot.

But I think the biggest highlight was our annaul Christmas video and the radio debuts for future stars Miss Harris, Alexa, and Lola!

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your incredible support this term. Your involvement and encouragement have made these events possible and have greatly enriched our school community.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!

Christmas Staff Video 2024

Introducing the Staff Christmas Video 2024!

Merry Christmas to all our children, families and friends from the Coleham staff team.  Thank you for all your support during 2024 and helping us put Coleham School at the heart of our wonderful community.  We couldn’t do without you!!

Once again, we’ve had some fun singing and this year we’ve stripped it all back like the original song.   Believe or not, our video tradition is now in its 5th year so we wanted to do something for charity.  We’ve partnered up with our friends at the Shrewsbury Food Hub who help to feed a little corner of our world!  They rescue food from 60 supermarkets, farmers and manufacturers every day and distribute it to communities to use.  So, Do they know it’s Christmas was the perfect song choice for our collaboration.  We hope to spread awareness of this brilliant charity and would love to raise them a few pounds.   If you’ve enjoyed this year’s song the please consider sending them a small donation to keep their wheels turning over this festive period.

BBC Radio Shropshire

BBC Radio Broadcast

Top Job from Mr Williams, Miss Harris and pupils Lola and Alexa for speaking on Radio Shropshire about the release of the Staff Christmas Video.  They did a great job telling everyone all about it’s 5th anniversary and why we are collaborating with the Shrewsbury Food Hub.

The Food Hub have already had a lovely message from somebody listening who has donated to their cause and thinks our version of ‘Do they know it’s Christmas is way, way better than this year’s professional offering!

Take a listen at 42-48 minutes

The Owl who came for Christmas

Badgers and Foxes had a fabulous trip to the theatre to watch The Owl who came for Christmas! They loved every single minute and the meet and greet with the characters at the end! It was an absolute joy to watch the children’s faces, our staff spent most of the performance watching them and not the show!  Arthur said “This is my best day ever!”

Year 4 visit St Chad’s Christmas Tree Festival

🎄Year 4 took a trip to St Chad’s to experience the beautiful Christmas Tree Festival. It was a truly special experience, with stunningly decorated trees set in the wonderful ambience of St Chad’s – a real Christmastide treat for everyone. The children loved admiring all the festive trees and enjoyed spotting those donated by familiar local businesses.

We then visited Ebenezer Scrooge’s grave, where TJ shared the story behind it, helping to prepare us for when we watch A Christmas Carol performed by our drama club!🎄

Nativity Animals Visit

The animals from Mary and Joseph’s stable came to visit us today including Racket the Donkey, Barry the Sheep, Fudge the Hen, Ed the Turkey and a friendly Rat.  The Donkey was 21 years old and Barry was the baby of the bunch. We had lots of fun stroking the animals from the Nativity story including Ed the Turkey who was jibbering away. Some of us were really brave and let the rat run up our arm!

Movie Night

Our first Movie Night was fun!  As we are feeling so Christmassy we watched Nativity.

A Christmas Carol

What a way to end the year!  Drama Club you were absolutely magnificent!

Not content with 7 Nativity Shows, we also had this to look forward too.

Drama Club have been working on their own version of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol since September with Miss Armstrong and Mrs Marghella.  They have thoroughly prepared for their roles and been inspired by Miss Armstrong with a trip to Scrooge’s grave at St Chads cemetery and an evening trip to Theatre Severn to watch the play.

We were blown away by it all, the props and scenery, costumes, morris dancing and acting.  You should all be so proud of what you have achieved together.  Congratulations!

A MASSIVE thank you must go to Miss Armstrong who has truly gone above and beyond for the children to give them this wonderful opportunity.  We know she will have been dreaming about safety pins, scripts and top hats for weeks now and whilst she makes it look effortless, it really is down to her hard work, dedication and ambition to pull off a quality professional performance.  Bravo!!  You deserve the most restful of Christmas holidays.

Robot Rhythms Show for Parents

Music Club Robot Rhythm Academy welcomed Weebert The Robot and his robot friends today as they sang to their parents.

Ex-helicopter engineer and robot creator Andy Laverton brought a selection of his Robot creations along to inspire the club. The children sang Robo-raps  and a Robo-tongue twister created by ChatGPT and took part in a dramatised Weebert story read by Lorraine Laverton. Well done everyone! You did an Amazing Job!

Sewing Club learn Japanese embroidery

Wow, Mrs Renshaw’s Sewing Club have made the most incredible garment for the Year 5 Eco Fashion Show coming up in the new year. A Sashiko-stitched kimono made from rescued fabrics!

They started the half term looking at the whole problem of fast fashion and looked at the idea of visible mending as part of the solution. This is the traditional Japanese method, and they really took to it!  They’re all very excited for it to be modelled on the school catwalk!

The children were given instructions to learn the basics of the traditional mending technique of “Sashiko” stitching, which means “little stabs”. After their first sampler, they chose a fabric to use their new stitching techniques to get creative and come up with their own Sashiko-inspired sampler. They all machine stitched the samples onto the kimono.

FACT- Sashiko originated in Japan during 1603 – 1867 when it was used out of a practical need to create and strengthen clothing that could be worn to protect against the cold.

The children have really caught the sewing bug with this project!

Autumn Eco Award

Our Eco Award this term goes to Badgers and Foxes for participating in the WOW Walk to School programme. Lots of the children have been enjoying walking to school and logging it on their tracker each morning to earn their WOW badges!

Autumn Term Cup Winners

Well done to all the children who were rewarded with House Values cups for Friendship, Kindness, Honesty, Cooperation, Respect, Perseverance and Ambition. Emily and Jack won the Year 6 Sports People of the term.  An impressive sporting attitude from Emily who made the decision one football match to attend to an injured goalkeeper instead of taking the shot!

Our Charity Award went to Drama Club this term for selling their Programmes to raise money for Shrewsbury Food Hub.

Our Music Award went to our Year 6 Soloists who opened our KS2 nativity shows in Church.

Well done for opening our show so beautifully.

A trip for the last day

Year 2 spent their last morning on a little outing to the Christmas Tree Festival at St Chads Church.  A lovely little explore of the beautiful church before we break up for Christmas!
