Headteacher Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a week it has been! The unexpected snow and ice brought a touch of winter magic to our school, though it did come with its challenges (the picture may or may not be an actual picture of me gritting the playground). We had to reset the boiler a few times and find the grit, but nothing stops Coleham School!

Despite the weather, we’ve had a week full of exciting activities, including a Diwali workshop organised by Mrs Mukhopadhyay and more sporting events. A special highlight was the theatre trip organised by Miss Armstrong, which was a fantastic experience for all involved. The students thoroughly enjoyed the performance – thank you Miss Armstrong!

We also had a very informative evening session about smartphone use, which provided valuable insights for parents. We will be sharing more information on this topic next week, so stay tuned.  Thank you to Mr Tudor from The Priory for coming to share secondary school experiences; to Tom and Tess from the Smartphone-Free Childhood Team and a special thank you to Anthea Renshaw for her help in organising.

Thank you for your continued support: we look forward to more fun and learning in the coming weeks!

Tom Larkham

Headteacher

Support for Parents

Courses run by professionals for all parents and families in Shropshire

Mr Larkham the Scientist

There is nothing Mr Larkham likes more than exploring animal bones and skulls but today it was organs! He dissected a sheep’s heart and lungs with Year 6 and it was great for them to see all of the vocabulary terms they have been learning in the flesh!  They pumped air into the lungs to show how they would work and connected straws through from the vena cava vein to the right atrium and ventricle, and then from the left ventricle to the aorta.  It was a fascinating science lesson that led to some excellent questions about looking after their heart and lung health.

Drama Club Trip to watch A Christmas Carol at Theatre Severn

Drama Club went on an evening outing to watch A Christmas Carol: A Radio Play Live on Stage at Theatre Severn. It was great to watch it performed by a professional cast and gave us lots of inspiration for our own performance. Every member of Drama Club behaved impeccably and the pupils were praised by a fellow theatre-goer. Well done, everyone! Thank you to Miss Armstrong and Mrs Marghella for this very special evening outing.

Yr 2 Enginuity Trip

Year 2 had a science and DT filled day with hands on learning around the Enginuity Museum in Ironbridge. The children took part in a mechanism workshop and made their own wheeled vehicles and competed to see whose went the furthest!

Fantastic Football Performance

A huge congratulations to our girls’ football team for their outstanding performance in a recent match against Oakmeadow! It was an exciting game filled with high spirits, and the team demonstrated excellent teamwork and dedication throughout.

Special mention goes to our goalkeeper, who made some incredible saves. It was a true team effort, and we couldn’t be prouder of how well they worked together. Keep up the fantastic work, girls – we look forward to seeing more of your amazing teamwork on the pitch!

Lets go Sledging!

Some days you just need to go with it and experience the world around you! Badgers and Foxes swap their Maths books for bin bags! 🦊🦡⛄️

Diwali workshop 2024

This week we had the Diwali workshop in school where children learnt the story of Rama and Sita using puppets and the reason why Diva lamps are lit on Diwali.
They dressed up in the Indian style and performed the Garba dance to the beat of Indian folk music, using decorative, colourful dandiya sticks.
It was all about the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS!

Staff star in Elf

Team Coleham watching ELF! Supporting our talented staff Mr Williams and Miss Cox who are great fun and bring so much joy, energy and friendship to our school ❤️❤️

It was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from us.

The perfect send off for Miss Melville who is leaving us for a little while to have her baby 🥰

EYFS Trip to the River Severn

To wrap up Nursery Rhyme Week, the children in Reception visited the River Severn to find some ducks. We enjoyed singing 5 Little Ducks to the ducks (and swans!) before then feeding them.

What a lovely end to a fantastic week!

Standing desks in classrooms

We are really pleased to have launched standing desks in all of our Key Stage 2 Classrooms!  These can be accessed by any child and can give children a break from sitting for long periods.  The benefits of Standing Desks are:

  • Increase blood flow to the brain and increased blood circulation.
  • Allows opportunity for movement.
  • Create better posture.
  • Helps to improve mood and energy levels.
Thank you to Year 3 Parent Mr Hunt for generously purchasing two of these desks for us.
