As part of our science topic on Living Things and Their Habitats, Dolphins took a trip to the beautiful Rea Brook Nature Reserve for a day of outdoor learning and exploration.
The children began by creating their own ‘Nature Museum’, using colour cards to find natural items that matched specific shades. They also worked in teams to search for items that fit different descriptive cards such as “shiny,” “bright,” “thorny,” and “soft” – encouraging careful observation.
We then explored the hedgerows, where the children hunted for invertebrates using magnifying pots to examine their finds up close. The excitement continued with pond dipping in the river habitat, where we discovered even more fascinating invertebrates living beneath the water’s surface.
Well done to all the children for their curiosity, enthusiasm, and brilliant behaviour!
