Dear Parents/Carers,
This week in class, all children in years 5 and 6 will be completing their next half termly e-safety session as part of our Computing curriculum. These planned sessions are supplemented throughout the year with continuous e-safety teaching that links with current topics/ needs of the children.
With this in mind, I would like to direct you to some high quality, free e-safety resources that are available to you as parents. You can find these by creating a free account on the National College website which I have linked below:
Library | The National College
Here you can become familiar with the age ratings and dangers associated with all of the social media platforms and online games your children might be interested in. These guidance documents are not only limited to online safety but also to other prevalent aspects of the wellbeing of our children.
I have selected a few guides which are particularly relevant to our teaching at school:
Top Tips for Setting Up Parental Controls On New Devices (nationalcollege.com)
Free Online Safety Guide | WhatsApp (nationalcollege.com)
Free E-Safety Guide | Safe & Healthy Online Habits (nationalcollege.com)
Age Ratings | Free Online Safety Guide (nationalcollege.com)
Please be aware that the age ratings for most social media apps (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Tik Tok) are 13+.
We also have an E-Safety Information evening for parents on Wednesday 20th November which we would like to invite you all to starting at 5pm in the school hall. There will be guest speakers talking about the use of smart phones and tips for setting boundaries, limits and parental controls in the family home. Hopefully this will give you an opportunity to chat with other parents about their views and what works for them.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Maria Stennett
