Launch Date: Saturday 4th July 2026
Mission: Coleham School Weather Balloon 3
Mission complete… Bernard went (half-way) to SPACE! 🦖🚀✨
From an ambitious idea ➡️ to the clouds ➡️ towards the stars 🌟
A project led by Mr Larkham and his Space Cadets — combining science, teamwork and a huge sense of adventure.
A special thank you to @goexploro.co.uk for helping make this mission possible and bringing Bernard’s journey to life.
What an unforgettable moment for our Space Cadets and our whole school community!
See the videos below to see Bernard looking back at Earth from the edge of space on our live Dino Cam footage… a moment worth waiting for! 🌎🚀🦖
Mr Larkham and Polly were hot on the trail of the weather balloon GPS tracker on Saturday afternoon after a successful launch! As with any science experiment you can predict an outcome but can never be sure of the results, had we put enough helium in the balloon? Had we put too much helium in the balloon? Would Bernard go off course?
Bernard landed safely in Rugby and was collected shortly after 3pm in the afternoon.
Next it was time to see the data capture and view the mission through our Commander Bernard’s eyes. WOW!
What an adventure it’s been!
Unfortunately, the on board computer and datalogger failed to record temperature and altitude accurately, but we can try again on Mission 4!
Bernard now sits with Tony and George as a trio of Dinosaur pioneers to the stars!
