Dear Families,
As your child moves into the next academic year, we will be reorganising classes within the EYFS, Year 2 and Year 4 year groups (Years 1, 3 and 5 remain the same).
This is something we do deliberately and carefully in a two‑form entry school. Mixing classes helps children build wider friendships, develop resilience and confidence, and see themselves as part of a strong year‑group community rather than a single class. Over time, this prepares them well for future transitions, including secondary school.
We understand that some children (and parents) may feel anxious about change. To support this, children are given the opportunity to share who they feel comfortable learning alongside, and staff use this information alongside their professional knowledge of each child’s learning, wellbeing and relationships. We always aim to ensure every child moves forward with a familiar connection and feels supported.
While not all friendship preferences can be met, our decisions are always made in the best interests of the whole year group and with children’s wellbeing at the centre.
In previous years, we have used an online form for parents, but we will not be doing so this year. If you have particular concerns about your child, then please speak to their class teacher in the first instance.
Kind regards
Coleham School
