Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision at Coleham School
Coleham Primary School is an inclusive school which offers a creative curriculum which aims to encourage all children to achieve their full potential, including children with SEND. Every child is unique and we want all children to have success, thrive and reach their potential. We are in constant pursuit of excellence and best practise and are continually adjusting our provision in school to meet the changing needs of our children.
All of our staff are professionals. Our Teaching Assistants are highly skilled and trained to deliver pastoral & nurture support and a wide range of specialist interventions for communication & language and literacy and numeracy support. Interventions are programmed and reviewed so the impact is carefully measured. To support children access their learning we deliver some SEND provisions across school for small groups of children who require a bespoke tailored curriculum in the mornings.

When children with SEND join our school, support is put in place for them to succeed. If your child has an EHCP and Coleham School is named on this, then they will be given priority when requesting a place at our school. If your child has been identified as being SEND support in their previous setting, then their application will follow admission procedures as stated in our admissions policy.
If your child is transferring from a nursery/preschool setting, transition meetings are set up between the preschool provider and the reception teachers at our school to find out as much as we can prior to your child starting so we can ensure a smooth handover and the best possible start.
If your child is transferring from another primary school, we will seek to find out as much information regarding attainment and how best to support your child from their previous school setting prior to them starting with us.
We actively encourage parents to speak to the child’s class teacher or SENDCO to discuss any concerns which may arise during transition from one setting to another.
Support for parent carers of children with SEND – Shropshire’s Local Offer
Having access to good quality information to help you understand the world of SEND is important when making decisions about your child’s life.
This is where websites such as the Shropshire’s SEND Local Offer can help you.
The Local Offer sets out in one place useful information and provision for education, health and social care for children and young people in Shropshire who have SEN or are disabled, including those who don’t have education, health, and care (EHC) plans.
The local offer has two main sections. The first is the information section, where services and processes are explained, such as how to get extra help at nursery or school or who to speak to if you’re worried about your child’s progress. This section will introduce you to support that might help your family and help you to understand what is available from a range of services across education, health, social care, support for your family, finance, travel and transport and lots more.
The second section is the service directory. This is a comprehensive list of services, clubs, support groups and businesses that might be of use to your family. It provides a brief introduction to what’s offered and contact details so that you can find out more. There’s also a listing of events and activities for children and young people or for families to enjoy together.

Coleham School SEND Projects
PINS Project
In 2024-25 we became part of the Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) funded by NHS England in partnership with the Department of Education, Department for Health and Social Care and the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF).
The purpose of the project is to improve the experience of mainstream school for children who may have an additional educational needs and neurodivergence.
As part of this project, we received support within school on both strategies to implement and environmental changes as well as support from Parent Carer Council for Shropshire (PACC) to ensure we capture and consider parent voice. We continue to work with PACC and our SEND families to ensure their voice is used to positively influence practise in school.
Early Learning for Every Child Project (ELSEC)
In 2024-25 We were selected for a pilot programme exploring different ways of promoting Speech Language and Communication in Early Years and Key Stage 1. A specialist ELSEC support worker screened every child in EYFS and Year 1 and our Teaching Assistants trained in Talk Boost intervention worked with a targeted group of children. We continue to use Talk Boost as a specialist intervnetion in school.
