Headteacher Message
Dear families,
As we reach the halfway point of the school year, this week has offered a wonderful reminder of everything that makes our school community so special. International Week has been a true highlight, filling our classrooms and corridors with colour, curiosity, and celebration. The children looked fantastic in their international costumes, proudly sharing the countries and cultures that mean something to them. It was a joy to see such variety and enthusiasm across the school.
We would like to a huge THANK YOU to all the parents who generously gave their time to come in and speak to the children. Your contributions brought the week to life: whether you were sharing personal stories, teaching the children about different languages and traditions, or offering insights into a range of different countries These experiences are invaluable and help broaden the children’s understanding of the world in meaningful and memorable ways. I also enjoyed the opportunity to fly my Manx flag!
A special thank you also goes to everyone who provided food for our international food fair. The hall was filled with delicious tastes and wonderful aromas, and the children thoroughly enjoyed trying dishes from around the globe. Your support helped create an event that truly captured the spirit of community and celebration.
We are incredibly proud of what the children have achieved so far this year, and there is still so much more to come. Thank you for your continued support, enthusiasm, and partnership. We look forward to the exciting learning ahead.
Enjoy your weekend!

Design Competition
The Living Streets company are holding a badge design competition that could see us winning a years’ worth of walk to school resources.
This year’s theme is Walk the Senses – they want the children to tell them what they see, hear, smell, taste or feel as they walk or wheel to school. That might be the sound of birds singing, the smell of flowers or a tasty snack eaten on the way to school. Or it could be the feel of raindrops or snow on their skin – or spotting a rainbow in the sky!
Your child may complete this in class or may come home with the template to have a go at home. (or a plain piece of paper will be fine too)
Entries to be with Class Teacher or Miss Melville by Friday 13th February.
Will we have some Coleham winners?
Book an appointment with the School Nurse
We are very lucky to have the School Nurse in school on Thursday 12th March in the morning.
She will return to school on 16th May and 16th July.
Would you like a private appointment to chat about your child? She can help with any concerns including:
Healthy lifestyle, diet and restricted eating, transition and change, behaviour, sleep development, puberty, oral hygiene and toileting.
If you would like to make an appointment, please contact the school office.

International Day 2026 Review
We have had a wonderful International day here at Coleham with so many fabulous costumes and interesting visitors, not to mention the brilliant food market at the end of the day.
We hope you enjoy this little video round-up of the day, thank you to our whole Coleham community for your amazing support once again.

🌍 International Day 2026 🌍
What an incredible celebration of culture and community! Our International Day was bursting with learning across RE, Geography, Foreign-Languages, Art and PE.
Pupils enjoyed German lessons with Frau Jones, and we were thrilled to welcome so many parent guest speakers, each sharing presentations about countries close to their hearts. Some of our own children even stepped up to present—such confidence and pride on display.
A special shout‑out to Karil in Year 6, who created a brilliant PowerPoint to teach Reception all about Ukraine.
Throughout the day, classes took part in vibrant dance workshops inspired by Russian, Turkish, Brazilian, Cuban, and Aboriginal traditions. Year 4 also produced some stunning Aboriginal‑inspired artwork.
Our Catering Team treated everyone to an International lunch, and of course the day wouldn’t be complete without our Amazing International Food Market for families, which was a huge hit once again.
A heartfelt thank you to all our parent guest speakers for giving their time and sharing their cultures so generously. And an extra special thank you to Eatwise Chinese Takeaway and former pupil Alvin for serving up fantastic food for our pupils—such kindness and community spirit.
Families, if you’re planning a takeaway one evening, please consider supporting this wonderful local family business.
What a day to remember! 🌟
Squirrels Shabbat Meal
✨ Bringing learning to life! Squirrels class have been diving into Judaism to learn “Who is Jewish and how do they live” and today they learnt about the Jewish Sabbath day of rest and explored the traditions of the Shabbat meal 🕯️🍞✨
They carefully laid out a Shabbat table, complete with candles and challah bread. We talked about how families come together on Friday evenings to welcome Shabbat — a time of rest, gratitude, and togetherness.
Community Love Letters for our favourite bakery
💌 Love Letter Competition 💌
The Love Spoon Bakery in Coleham has invited the local community to take part in a Valentine’s-themed project centred on handwritten love letters. and so of course we just had to get involved!
The bakery has asked the Shrewsbury community to write love letters on anything meaningful – from family and pets to places or memories and displayed them as a public art installation in the shop window.
We have joined the initiative with real enthusiasm, running it as a house competition and sending across hundreds of moving, heartfelt letters from pupils.
Mr Hughes has had an incredibly tough time selecting House winners 🏆
The love letters are double sided and families are welcome to pop into the shop to have a look at them-the bakery is open after school on Thursdays and Fridays until 4pm for sweet treats too.
This project resonates with our values of spreading kindness, creativity and being part of our local community.

🏆 County Shield Champions! 🏆
A huge well done to the U10 footballers for an outstanding County Shield tournament, showing determination, teamwork and resilience throughout.
After winning the group stage, the team progressed through the semi-final and into the final. The final was a closely contested match, finishing 1–1, with a last-minute equaliser from Bray. The team then showed great composure to secure a 3–2 win on penalties against Greenfields.
Penalty scorers: Bray, Arlo and Jesse.
A fantastic achievement — well done to every player involved. The team will now go on to represent the county, starting with the semi-finals, and we look forward to finding out who they will face.
Girls’ Football Semi-Final
A huge well done to this fantastic group of keen footballers in the making! It was a great game despite the result. The girls played Greenfields in the semi-finals and, unfortunately, were narrowly beaten. However, this didn’t phase them at all — they kept their heads held high, showed great resilience, and continued to enjoy the game in very muddy conditions.
Well done, girls! ⚽👏

El Coleham Mexicana
Our special group of Year 4 children this week opened Restaurant El Coleham Mexicana 🎉 and fed a hall full of families using surplus food! In just 90 minutes they made Mexican bean stew with lime mayonnaise , cucumber, coriander & lime salsa and French bread pizzas .
That’s a wrap for our Friday Night Dinner project for 2026! This project should be nationwide in every school across the country because what it achieves in 2 hours is extraordinary. Learning about hospitality & careers, building skills, independence & confidence, teamwork, boosting self‑esteem & confidence and bringing a community together to share food and celebrate these amazing children. It brings a tear to our eyes every time we open the restaurant doors. There was so much love and pride in the room.

Yr 3 @ Blue Planet Aquarium 🌊
Our Year 3 explorers walked through the magical shark tunnel, watched divers in the huge ocean tank, and came face‑to‑face with some incredible creatures on Earth 🦈
We have been learning about taking responsibility for our planet, plastic pollution and protecting our oceans so seeing marine life really opened our eyes 💔🌍
