Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,
As we rush headlong into the business end of the school year, it’s time to look back at this week and look forward to the final two weeks! Still so much going on and much to do yet!
Music filled the air again, thanks to the inimitable Mrs Porrett and the incredible Year 3 recorder orchestra! No squeaks, squawks or ear-splitting screeches: just beautiful tuneful music! It’s always such a joy to see our children creating music and enjoying performing. Bravo Year 3!
The highlight of the week surely must be the new Shropshire Athletics Champions… COLEHAM SCHOOL! For the first time in living memory (or at least in this Headteacher’s memory…) Coleham lifted the trophy after exceptional performances worthy of the Olympics! We are all so proud of all our athletes that took part and represented their community so well. Thanks also to Miss Lewis and Mr Halford for taking them and preparing them so well!
Next week we will be sending home your children’s school reports for the year, announcing the Gelatistry gelato competition winners and counting up the final points for the House Cup. EVERY DOJO COUNTS!
Have a lovely weekend!
Tom Larkham

Coming up in September…

Yr 2 visit the Beavers
Year 2 visited the old River Bed, Shrewsbury Wood Lane – a special reward following our fantastic win in the Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s competition to name their beavers… Beryl and Bertie! 🦫🎉
This competition was part of a wonderful initiative by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, in partnership with Shropshire Council, to reintroduce a family of Eurasian beavers to the Old River Bed wetlands – a beautiful and ecologically important Site of Special Scientific Interest. The beavers will help manage and restore the wetland habitat in a natural and sustainable way.
The children took part in a hands-on workshop led by the SWT team, where they learnt all about the beavers and their habitat.

Supersonic Sue
Supersonic Sue visited today for a Fun Science assembly! She dazzled the children with experiments and will be back to lead Science after school clubs in September.

Josie’s flag is flying high!
Josie in Year 4 has been selected as joint winner of this year’s Shrewsbury High Street Flag Art Competition! 🌸🎨
The competition invited young artists to create collages inspired by Henri Matisse and the native flowers of Shropshire for the Shrewsbury Arts Trail.
Josie received a prize from Write Here, presented in partnership with Shrewsbury BID and Shrewsbury Town Council.
Her flag is now flying high on the High Street — a colourful and creative celebration of the flowers of Shropshire.

D of E pupil helps us out!
After School Club children have so loved having Gabe from Priory School with us. Gabe is completing his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and has been volunteering with us this year! The boys have especially loved his football skills. Thank you Gabe.

Year 6 Rounders
Well done to this fantastic group of children who represented Coleham at the rounders competition held at Mary Webb Secondary School. They demonstrated excellent resilience and teamwork throughout the event, with some brilliant batting and fielding on display. A special well done to the five children who kindly joined with pupils from Harlescott School to form a second team — your flexibility and sportsmanship were outstanding.

Coleham Crowned Area Athletics Champions 2025! 🏆
Miss Lewis cannot put into words how incredibly proud she is of every single one of our children who took part in the Area Athletics 2025 event. You all represented Coleham with such pride, determination, and spirit — it was an absolute joy to watch.
From the very first race to the final event, there was an overwhelming sense of teamwork, competitiveness, and pure passion for athletics. The effort, energy, and enthusiasm each of you showed were simply outstanding. It was inspiring to see such fantastic athletic ability on display, but even more so to witness the way you supported and encouraged one another throughout.
We always knew you would do brilliantly, but to be crowned overall champions is an incredible achievement — something each and every one of you should be so proud of. Regardless of the position you finished in, this was a true team effort, and the win belongs to you all.
Keep pushing yourselves, keep believing in your potential, and you’ll continue to achieve amazing things.
Well done, Team Coleham — you were absolutely amazing! 👏🏽🎉

Martha hears back from Jellycat
Martha enjoys collecting Jellycat soft toys and has quite the collection at home! She had a new idea for a Blobfish soft toy and so wrote a letter to tell them! She was delighted when they wrote back! A lovely surprise in the school post, well done Martha.

Year 3 Recorder Concert
Year 3 have been learning the Recorder this year with our Music Teacher Mrs Porrett and performed to a packed out hall full of families. Miss Othen was even drawn away from her office to the hall following the sound of the tunes, she had no idea the recorder could sound so good. Great job Year 3!
