Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome back!  I hope you have all had a relaxing couple of weeks over Easter and managed to have some fun along the way.  I’ve certainly come back from the Easter break refreshed and ready to get stuck into the Summer Term after spend a couple days in the mountains.

The weather has been glorious this week, which has brought out the very best in everyone – it’s been lovely to see the children working so hard and helping each other out.

This is only a very, very short half term, and we are already a quarter of the way through it…  Despite that, there is lots to pack in, including the Plant & Craft Fair and of course, the Year 6 SATs.  We’ve already had a school trip out of town and an art trip to the Dingle this week!  I’m really looking forward to seeing lots of you at the Plant & Craft fair next weekend (10th May), and if you are able to help out, that would be great!

In this week’s newsletter, there are the dates for Sports Days in June, and information about a new competition across the whole 3-18 Education Trust around BELONGING.

Remember: we’re not in on Monday – everyone has a long weekend!

Have a lovey weekend, everyone.

Tom Larkham

What does BELONGING mean to you?

In order to succeed, people need to feel that they belong.

The 3-18 Education Trust has launched a competition across all our schools for children to demonstrate what belonging means to them.  They can show this is any creative way they can: writing, art, poetry, dancing, singing… anything!

Click here to see the launch video!

The winners from each school will win an Amazon voucher and the opportunity to be one of the first Belonging Ambassadors in our Trust.

Entries need to be handed to class teachers by Friday 23rd May.

Good Luck!

Off to the Dingle!

We love our school location! Sometimes the weather is so good that you just have to seize the moment! We decided to take our art lesson outside and visit the Dingle to sketch flowers this morning. Yet again, the children did us proud and several members of the public commented on their good behaviour. They produced some super sketches too – these drawings will form the basis of our next art topic on Georgia O’Keeffe. A lovely way to spend our morning! 🌞🌼🌸🌺🌷💐🌹🪻

Year 2 name the Shrewsbury Beavers!

Year 2 have won a competition with The Shropshire Wildlife Trust to name the male and female Shrewsbury Beavers.

The Eurasian beavers were released at the Old River Bed in Shrewsbury in February, reintroducing the animals to the area for the first time in 400 years!

The pair have now been named Beryl and Bertie!

How incredible! We are looking forward to following their journey and the ecological impact they have and visiting them soon.  It is hoped Beryl and Bertie will help to maintain the Old River Bed nature reserve, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Whales have thoroughly enjoyed exploring their Science topic on food chains. They created posters, diagrams, and flip books featuring woodland, marine, and savanna ecosystems, and chose to wrap up their learning by filming David Attenborough-style videos showcasing food chains in tropical rainforests. Have a watch!
