Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

As we reach the halfway point of the academic year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the fantastic progress and achievements we’ve seen so far. This half-term has been particularly eventful and enriching for our pupils, and it’s been wonderful to see so much happening!

This week has been a whirlwind of excitement and learning. Our Year 5s had the incredible opportunity to visit London, where they met with our local Member of Parliament. This trip not only provided them with a deeper understanding of our political system but also inspired many to think about their roles as active citizens. The discussions and interactions with our MP were brilliant and have left a lasting impression on everyone who went.

Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating the results of our short-story competition. The response has been overwhelming, with a large number of entries from students across all year groups. The creativity and talent displayed in these stories are truly remarkable, and I am confident that we have some budding authors in our midst. The competition has not only encouraged our students to express themselves through writing but has also fostered a love for literature and storytelling.

As we move into the second half of the year, I want to express my gratitude to all the parents for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Your encouragement and engagement play a crucial role in your children’s education, and we are grateful for your partnership. Together, we can ensure that our students continue to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Don’t forget to book your Parents’ & Carers’ Evening appointments for the first week back (26th & 27th Feb)!

Have a lovely half-term break, and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday 24th Feb.

Warm regards,

Tom Larkham

Half Marathon Info

This is a message for parents who have signed their child up for the half marathon this year.

Thank you for signing up your child! It’s fantastic to see so many children taking part in such a great event.

The children will begin running the week commencing 3rd March, and they will run twice a week, completing one mile each time. They will run during break time on an allocated day. If your child would like to run in their trainers, they can bring them in a separate bag.

Here is the running schedule for each year group:

  • Year 1: Monday and Thursday
  • Year 2: Monday and Thursday
  • Year 3: Tuesday and Friday
  • Year 4: Tuesday and Friday
  • Year 5: Monday and Thursday
  • Year 6: Monday and Thursday

Closer to the date, we will share more details about the final mile at the showground on Saturday, 12th April.

Best wishes,
Miss Lewis

Year 5 visit Parliament in London!

A year ago, Year 4 wrote persuasive letters to our MP, Julia Buckley. They took their letters and their protest about sewage in the River Severn down to the post box at Greyfriars Bridge and now today they stand in UK Parliament, Westminster after Julia responded to their letters and personally invited them to London.

Shropshire Star News Article

What an incredible experience for staff and children – a day to remember! A powerful reminder to the children of taking action, speaking up and writing persuasive letters with purpose.

The start of their journey back in Year 4…

…to a private Q&A with Julia!

We had a brilliant day touring Parliament and learning lots of interesting facts about its function and history, asking Mrs Buckley lots of tough and insightful questions, and finishing the day off with exploration of the Natural History Museum.

Year 4 Trip to Thinktank

Year 4 had an electrifying time at Thinktank, the science museum in Birmingham! We explored the museum learning about wildlife, old forms of transport, the body, space and lots more! We also had a brilliant interactive show all about electricity!

Valentines Disco

We had a great time at the Valentines Disco. We played musical statues, ate delicious biscuits that Badgers and Foxes baked for us and did the Superman Dance! A fun way to end half term.

A Letter From Sir David Attenborough!

Well done to Olive in Squirrels class for writing to Sir David Attenborough and getting a HAND-WRITTEN reply!  Olive had written to Sir David asking ‘What is the most important thing we can do to save the planet?’.

Sir David always replies to letters and has made Olive’s day!  It just goes to show how powerful writing can be.

Indoor Athletics Competition

A massive well done to this group of children for their tremendous efforts in the recent indoor athletics competition!

There was some absolutely fantastic running and competitiveness, with some excellent athletes in the making! They worked together in their relay races and showed great team spirit throughout.

The boys finished in 4th place overall, and the girls took 1st place, coming away with medals and earning the chance to represent Shrewsbury in the county finals in May!

Outstanding effort from each and every one of you – well done!

Music Club’s Scottish Showcase

Highland Beat Brigade – our KS1 music club welcomed 17 year old Logan from Shrewsbury School to play his bagpipes at the club’s Scottish Showcase concert on Thursday. After marching across the playground, everyone danced two jigs to ‘Scotland The Brave’ and the children performed drumming raps, sang Amazing Grace and provided the SFX to Robert Burn’s spooky story of ‘Tam ‘O Shanter’. Big thanks to Storyteller Lexie who read some of the poem in a great Scottish accent and well done to Highland Beat Brigade!

Mrs Wade’s Wednesday All-Age Music Club returns on Feb 26th with Celtic Sound Squad when we’ll be welcoming fiddles, accordion and tin whistles to celebrate St David and St Patrick’s Day!

Year 3 Class Assemblies

Year 3 had a fantastic time showcasing all their exciting learning to their parents.

Year 3 have been learning and investigating all about plastic pollution and sent out a very strong message through their assembly today. The message was – Reduce , Reuse and Recycle your plastic to save our beautiful planet Earth ! They rounded it off by singing an eco song.

Pins & Needles Sewing Club

The end of a happy half term for Pins & Needles Sewing Club!

The children finished off their padded bead jewellery in lots of different craft patterns.   The patterns made us think about the holiday week ahead: trips to London, guinea-pig sitting, aquariums and spring beginning to show itself.

If your in KS2 sign up for next half term and learn a new skill.

KS1 House Singing Competition

KS1 took part in a singing competition in their houses yesterday. Each house sang a verse of ‘Plastic Soup’ after practising with Mrs Porrett for the past few weeks.

Each house sang beautifully and Miss Featherston had a very tricky job deciding the winners! Quarry were awarded first place, with Severn, Darwin and Greyfriars all receiving points as runners up.

Well done Quarry House and for all of KS1 for your wonderful singing.

We are looking forward to seeing who will win the next competition!

Year 5 Football

A big well done to this group of Year 5 boys who took part in a football tournament at Shrewsbury Sports Village. The team played well together, but faced some tough opponents along the way. A special mention goes to Theo for his outstanding goalkeeping. We ended the tournament on a high note, securing a win in our final match. Great job, boys – keep persevering and always giving your best!

Owls and Leopards Buddy PE

Each week, Leopards and Owls come together to share in some buddy reading. Today, as an end-of-half-term treat, we came together to play bench ball. Year 5 taught year 2 the rules and played in mixed teams. It was great fun and we have all started half term with a big smile!
