Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome to the end of another jam-packed week!

First and foremost, a huge congratulations to Year 2 for their amazing assemblies to parents and carers! The effort and enthusiasm that went into these performances were evident, and it was brilliant to see the pride on the faces of both the children and their families. The assemblies were not only a showcase of the children’s talents but also a testament to their hard work so far this year. Well done, Year 2!

Equally impressive was the incredible fashion show put on by Year 5 on Tuesday. The creativity and fashion-flair displayed by the students was nothing short of spectacular. From designing their outfits to strutting down the runway with confidence, the Year 5 pupils truly shone. A special thank you goes out to Mrs Renshaw, Miss Heap, and Miss Othen for their hard work and in making this event a success!

These events are a reminder of the vibrant and supportive community we have here at our school. They highlight the importance of teamwork, creativity, and the joy of learning. It’s moments like these that make all the hard work worthwhile and create lasting memories for everyone.

Next week is the last week of the half-term and marks the half-way mark for the entire school year.  It only feels like yesterday we were coming back from the summer…  remember to look out for the Parents’ & Carers’ Evenings booking link for after the half-term break!

Have a lovely weekend!

If you are parking before the road closes, please be patient and wait until the road is opened again.  Remember to switch off your engines if you are waiting so families do not need to walk through unnecessary fumes.  Please do not be upset if you are asked to wait for the road to open or to turn your engines off.

As ever, please continue to be mindful of our neighbours on Salter’s Lane and not hinder their movements to and from their houses.

Please let any friends and family members who may be collecting your children by car know about the School Street scheme.

Short Story House Competition!

The House Captains announced the latest competition in assembly today.

In the run up to World Book Day, the next House Competition is for the children to write their own short story. The story can be any fiction genre, such as adventure, sci-fi etc.

It must be 250 words or less if you are Year 2 or above and can have an image or a front cover design. For EYFS and Year 1, the children can create a story map or story mountain with their ideas and images.

Pupils can create these at home, in free time at school or in Elephants class on Thursday lunchtimes. The deadline is Friday 14th February (the last day of half term). We are hoping to get some authors to help us judge the winners!

We would like the stories to be put together and showcased in the library and as many children as possible to take part to try and win points for their House.

Entries need to be handed to Miss Featherston with the child’s full name, class and house on please.

Good luck to everyone!

Author Event – Patrice Lawrence

Today we had a special visitor, Children’s author and MBE for children’s literature Patrice Lawrence.

She spoke openly about growing up in an Italian -Trinidadian household and that as a young girl she saw that families like hers weren’t represented in children’s books.  She told us about her wild imagination and the ideas that came from news stories for her latest book People Like Stars. Thank you so much to Booka Bookshop for organising this brilliant visit for us.

Eco Fashion Show

London Fashion Week could learn a thing or two from Year 5!

We are so proud of Year 5 for pushing outside their comfort zone and pulling off the Eco Fashion Show for their parents this evening! 🪩

It was a true collaboration. Fashion Club customised school uniform into new garments (as they so often end up in landfill!) and created ball gowns from rubbish and Sewing Club wowed us with their ‘Sashiko’ Kimono 🎎 Every child had a part to play.

Our Disco and Western runways were put together from the pupils wardrobes sending us the message to ‘style up the clothes we already own’.

We’ve learnt about fast fashion and the impact on the environment, sustainability, design, the ancient Japanese needlecraft of Sashiko that decorates our clothes mending them with love ❤️ and most of all the confidence to speak in public and perform!

Many thanks to Miss Othen, Mrs Renshaw, Miss Heap and Mrs Stennett.

In the footsteps of Darwin

Year 2 have been learning all about Charles Darwin and today followed in his footsteps around Shrewsbury by walking The Darwin Trail.

The children visited many buildings and locations that were pivotal in his early life such as where he was schooled (Shrewsbury Library), where he worshipped (St Mary’s Church) where his father worked (The Parade) and the start of his worldwide sailing expedition (The Lion Hotel) where he was collected in a horse and carriage.

How wonderful to celebrate our towns rich history!

Year 2 Class Assemblies

Well done to Owls and Rabbits for hosting their class assemblies.  The children told us what they have learnt about Charles Darwin, showed us their artwork, tested the parents with a quiz and sang us an international song.  Well done Year 2!

Reception visit The British Ironworks

Pupils in EYFS had the best time exploring the sculptures at The British Ironworks, Oswestry this week. What better way to explore their art topic on Sculptures than through this real life, hands on experience!

Quiz Night

Thanks to all the staff and parents for joining us for another one of Mr Larkham’s Quiz nights. Coleham’s Finest took the glory 🏆
