Headteacher Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we wrap up another wonderful week, I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your positivity and engagement during the parent/carer consultations. Your support and feedback are invaluable to us, and it was fantastic to see so many of you.

This week has been filled with exciting activities and memorable moments. Our students had a fantastic time during the author visit, sparking their imaginations and inspiring a love for reading. Additionally, the EYFS children were thrilled to have farm animals visit, providing a hands-on learning experience that they will cherish.

DON’T FORGET!  Individual school photos are next Wednesday 19th November.  Please come in wearing normal uniform, not PE kit.  If your child is scheduled for PE, they will be able to do PE in their school uniform and wear trainers on Wednesday.

Thank you once again for your continued support and for making our school community so special.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Gabriela sings for Nursery Rhyme Week

Badgers & Foxes celebrate Nursery Rhyme Week with Gabriela 😀

We said ‘just go with it and see what happens’ and the children embraced the musical collaboration with songs being sung for everyone. Gabriela’s positivity is infectious, she had us smiling and laughing all afternoon. Music really can be food for the soul ❤️ It’s also great for our children’s mental health and wellbeing.

You can often see Gabriella busking in our town centre or at local events 🥰

Old MacDonald had a Farm-Nursery Rhyme Week

Each day this week EYFS have been focusing on a different nursery rhyme song and so the Farm on Wheels joined us for Old MacDonald had a Farm!

Author Piers Torday visits us

Bestselling Children’s Author Piers Torday visited us today!  Piers wrote The Last Wild Collection and has won many literature awards.  Piers talked to Year 4, 5 and 6 about his new fantasy book Midnight Treasure. Set in a fantasy version of Transylvania and a kingdom of vampirs, an orphaned werwolf searches for a mysterious treasure.

Piers’ Dad left him the inspiration for Midnight Treasure.  During Lockdown Piers found a mysterious map of a fantasy land drawn by his dad —a wonderful world of knights, bears, forests, and lakes.  He had no idea what it was or when he drew it but it was the seed of a story which grew when Piers researched his family history in Transylvania (modern day Romania).

The story was also inspired by The Hobbit, the first book his Dad read to him and his brother and the book they took turns in reading to each other during his Dad’s final days.  This is such a great reminder of how special reading can be between families, stories can be timeless spanning generations and providing us with memories that we treasure!!

Thank you so much to Piers for inspiring Year 4, 5 and 6 and meeting the children for our book signing.

Our new Sensory Room

We now have a Sensory Room in school!  One of our nurture spaces has had a refurb with some new sensory equipment.  It is now the perfect place for children needing a safe and calming environment to regulate their emotions or to talk to an adult.  Thanks to Kiril for testing out the colour changing remote.

Sewing Club

Look what the Sewing Club have been up too!  Embroidering our School Houses, don’t they look fantastic?  This half term the club is learning about fast fashion and sustainability in preparation for our Year 5 Eco Fashion Show in the new year.  We can’t wait see their creations on the catwalk.

Autumn wins the Judy Townsend Award

Congratulations to Autumn who has been awarded the Judy Townsend Award 2024 from the Belle Vue Arts Festival for her contribution to this years festival. Autumn has been thoroughly involved with this years festival from the start. She drew the magpie picture which adorned the top of the totem poles, she created a treasure themed poem which was written on Hair Forums window, read her poem out during our poetry event and took part in various workshops in school and out during the festival. She has definitely captured the spirit of the festival. Well done Autumn for being so creative and taking up the opportunity to speak in public!

Friday Night Dinner

Well done to this fabulous group of children for cooking a meal for their families.  75 minutes to chop, prep, cook, clean down and lay the dining hall.  The Pasta Pomodora with Garlic Bread was delicious! The children were very rightly proud to serve their families.  Thank you to our families for spending Friday Night with us.  It’s the highlight of our week.

Thank you to Steve @thehungryguy and Ali from Shrewsbury Food Hub for such a wonderful project. This is Friday Night Dinner! and we’ll be back in springtime with another culinary experience for Year 3.

This project is what Coleham School embodies the 3 C’s – Creativity, Caring and Community

Watch this space!  We have so many new ideas to expand this project even further.  THERE ARE NO LIMITS AT COLEHAM SCHOOL, OUR CHILDREN CAN DO ANYTHING!
