Headteacher Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the end of a successful half-term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful, rich experiences and activities our students have enjoyed. It’s been a joy to see their growth and enthusiasm: thank you for all your support over this half-term.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting second half-term planned, including our Christmas events. Please remember to check the calendar for important dates so you can come along and watch the Nativities.
If you haven’t done so already, please also ensure you book your Parent & Carer Consultations with teachers through Arbor. Your involvement is greatly appreciated.
All that is left for me to do is wish you all a fun and relaxing half-term break!
Remember that Monday 4th November is a PD Day, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 5th November.
See you soon!

Coming Soon!
You may have seen on the news about the grassroots movement ‘Smartphone Free Childhood’ who are on a mission to keep children smartphone free until they are aged 14.
It isn’t our intention to push this message but we feel it is an opportune time to open up discussions with parents about the benefits and risks of smart phones so that we are all more educated, taking tips from each other, learning about boundaries and rules that work for others so we can make informed choices about what we want for our children growing up. It’s all about personal choice and sharing our experiences.

Yr 6 Evacuation Day
Bringing history to life! Our Evacuation Day has been a great success! Each child took on an evacuee’s identity for the day with different evacuation experiences – some good and some bad. We began the day by making our gas mask boxes, name tags and identity cards. Then, Sergeant Major Williams checked we were all ready to be billeted to our host families. In the afternoon we had an air raid drill and made minute Anderson shelters.
The children took on their characters with great wartime gusto and we hope the day highlighted the experiences that children their age went through in WW2. History is a great subject for evoking empathy which helps pupils connect with the past and develop insights into not only the individuals, but also the political, economic, and social realities of the day.

Year 4 travelled back in time during their Roman trip to Chester
Year 4 had an incredible experience during their Roman trip to Chester’s Roman Deva! The day was filled with excitement as the children marched through the streets, learning all about life as Roman legionnaires.
Under the strict command of the Roman centurion, the children became legionnaires for the day. They practiced drills, including stabbing with foam gladiuses and forming the famous tortoise formation with their scutum’s!
The adventure continued as the children “sailed” from Roma to Deva, rowing in rhythm to a drum, before exploring the market with its unusual delicacies like dormice, milk-fattened slugs, and flamingo tongues! They visited the Roman bathhouse, learning about Roman hygiene, oil, and the notorious sponges on sticks.
The day ended with a virtual gladiator battle and a visit to the real-life amphitheatre ruins. It was a day full of fun, learning, and a deeper understanding of Roman history!
Year 4 celebrate Roman Day
Year 4 spent a whole day celebrating the Ancient Romans, dressed in their Roman finery. We made legionary shields and mini mosaics. In the afternoon, we practiced stage combat at the gladiator fighting pits, attacked and defended in our legionnaire training and worked as teams to take on the aqueduct challenge. Finally, we headed to the Coleham Colosseum to sing our Roman marching song then watched brave souls fight for the chance to gain the Empress’s mercy and their freedom.
Yr 5 Greek Mythology Day
Yr 5 were treated to a Greek Mythology Day as a finale to their history topic. The children embraced their characters as Gods, Goddesses and mortal- born heroes. Lions Classroom set up a cookery station to make their own flatbreads and Tatziki while Leopards Classroom became a hive of activity making wreaths. In the afternoon, we had a Greek fashion show, tasted our bread and dip and designed our own shields! The children have a brilliant day with lots of Greek fueled FUN!
Year 6 Girls Shine at ‘This Girl Can’ Event
Ten Year 6 girls had an amazing day at the “This Girl Can” event held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. The girls took part in a variety of taster sessions, including boccia, archery, Kwik cricket, squash, and boxing. The day was filled with energy and laughter as they enthusiastically engaged in all the activities.
One of the highlights was the boxing session, where the girls were full of excitement and finished red-faced but smiling. Throughout the day, they exemplified Coleham’s values, showing respect to the coaches, being kind to children from other schools, and working together as a supportive team.
Well done to everyone involved!

Year 4 Behind the Scenes Tour @ Theatre Severn
Year 4 students had the fantastic opportunity to visit Theatre Severn as part of Careers Week. The children were given an exclusive tour, exploring both behind the scenes and the stage itself. They learned about the wide range of jobs involved in running a theatre, discovering that it’s not just about performing.
The students were particularly fascinated by the technical aspects, including how the sound systems operate, the role of lighting, and how stage equipment is delivered and assembled. A big thank you to Theatre Severn for taking the time to offer this valuable experience to our children!

In the News!
Our FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER project and community collaboration made the news!
Of course, it did! It’s a wonderful project and the children have thrived being part of it.

NSPCC’s Speak Out; Stay Safe Programme
Dear Parent/Carer
NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. programme
I am pleased to inform you that we are participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. Programme this term. Speak out. Stay safe. is a programme for children aged 5-11 which aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.
This child friendly programme is aligned with the curriculum and consists of age appropriate virtual assemblies and supporting classroom based activities which we have reviewed, alongside NSPCC volunteer led face to face workshops for children aged 6-7 and 9-11. The content is delivered in an engaging and interactive way with the help of the NSPCC mascot Buddy.
Parents and carers are asked to let school know if their child may have experienced anything (in the past or happening now) which may mean they need extra support before, during or after taking part in this programme.
If you would like to know more about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme visit www.nspcc.org.uk/speakout.
Feedback survey for pupils aged 7-11
The NSPCC would like to gather feedback from pupils aged between 7-11 about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme to gauge their learning. This will be voluntary and children can still take part in the programme if they don’t take part in the survey.
- All survey questions are multiple choice and focussed on the programme.
- The survey is anonymous and confidential. However, if in the process of completing the survey, a teacher becomes concerned for a pupil’s welfare (g., through something a pupil says) we will follow our school’s safeguarding procedures.
- If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, sign the slip below and return it to your child’s class teacher.
- If you have agreed that your child can take part in the survey but your child changes their mind on the day, that is also okay.
