Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome to the end of another week full of busy things!  this week we’ve had lots of trips and visitors which you can read all about in this newsletter.

We’ve had the first of our new parents open mornings this week and it was a joy to take them around the school and see such purposeful work going on.  The EYFS children were very excited to talk to everyone and we even had two superb Year 6s starting the tour off!

Next Monday is our Harvest Festival assembly, and we will be collecting donations for the local food bank (see more in the newsletter below).

SCHOOL STREET REMINDER:

Please remember to let others know about the Greyfriars Rd closure so that anyone picking up your children are aware that the road must remain shut until 3:30pm.  We ask anyone parking up before it closes to kindly wait until 3:30pm to move on.

SALTERS LANE REMINDER:

Please be mindful of our neighbours in Salters Lane when dropping children off & collecting.  We have had some complaints about parking habits.  We have been reassured by traffic wardens that there is no illegal parking, however, please be considerate to not obstruct property entrances.  Also please remember that St Julian’s Car Park is available across the Greyfriars Bridge.

Have a lovely weekend!

What’s on next week?

Monday– Harvest Festival Assembly & Donations

Monday– Year 2 Trip

Tuesday -Vision Screening For EYFS Pupils

Friday- EYFS Careers Dress Up

Monday – Harvest Festival Donations

We are looking forward to welcoming Rev. Fi Iddon from Holy Trinity Church, who will lead our Harvest Festival in school on Monday.

We will be supporting The Shrewsbury Food Bank.

The Shrewsbury Foodbank is based at the Barnabas Church Centre in Coleham. They would welcome any donations of food/household items (e.g. tinned fruit/meats, tinned meals, rice, pasta, tinned spaghetti, pasta sauces, biscuits, cereals, tea/coffee, UHT milk, toothpaste/toothbrushes/shower gel/deodorant/shampoo, laundry tablets, toilet paper and nappies).

The children may bring their donations into class in the morning.  Our School Council will help to take the food to the Food Bank on Tuesday and see what an important role the food bank plays in our community.

Thank you very much, in advance, for your generosity

Theme Menu Thursday 3rd October

We hope lots of children can have a school lunch on Thursday as this is our School Census Day and the number of meals served will help calculate future meals funding.

Ancient Greek Workshop

A big thank you to Ali from Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery for delivering another fantastic session for our children.
This time it was year 5’s turn to learn all about the Ancient Greeks. They handled and sketched real and replica artefacts from the era, considered the differences between Sparta and Athens and recreated the first ever Olympic Games!

We are so lucky to have arch a fantastic resource such as SM&AG on our doorstep!

Year 5 Lions Choral Day

Lions enjoyed a visit to Shrewsbury High School to join a few other schools in the choral day. We had a fantastic time and learnt six songs all in one day! We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Bunn and all of the other staff at the High School who ensured that everyone had a great time. Viva la Musica!

Exciting tennis taster session with Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club!

A big thank you to Harrison from Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club for visiting and giving our children the fantastic opportunity to participate in a tennis taster session! Each child has received a golden ticket, granting them the chance to attend the Tennis Club’s Open Day on Sunday, 6th October. We hope many of our pupils take advantage of this exciting experience!

Football – U11 County Plate

A huge well done to the boys for their great effort in our first sports fixture of the year! We faced Mereside at home and, although we lost 3-1, the team kept their heads high and played well together, especially in the second half. Despite the wet, muddy, and slippery conditions, everyone showed resilience and determination. Keep up the great work!

EYFS Trip to Holy Trinity

Today the children in Reception visited Holy Trinity Church to learn about Baptisms and how Christians welcome children into the Church.
Thank you Reverend Fi for hosting us!

Year 4 Playground Friends

Year 4 have been living up to all of our school values as they take on the role of Playground Friends. They are making sure everyone has someone to play with and leading lots of fun games, such as duck, duck, goose and What’s the Time Mr  Wolf? Well done, year 4! #colehamcares #colehamcareers

Dining Hall Assistants

Our year 5 have been busy at work this week, in their new roles as dining hall assistants. They are there to serve puddings and support the EYFS/KS1 children with their lunchtime and are doing a wonderful job! #colehamcares #colehamcareers

Friendship Club

Some of our amazing year sixes have used their initiative to start a Friendship Club!

They have invited different KS1 children to join then in organised games and today was a roaring success as they played netball, read stories and played other games with our year 2 children.

What super role models!
