Headteacher Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Here we are at the end of a very long but productive first half-term of the year.  I hope that everyone gets the well-earned rest they need and can come back fresh and ready for an exciting second half-term and the last one of 2023.  We have lots to look forward to: more trips, more visitors and of course – lots of Christmas events!

This week has seen Coleham crowned X-Country champions, a visit from the Fire Service, and a long-distance trip to Liverpool for our Year 6s, a Roman Day and Pumpkin Party for EYFS.

Please remember that the first week back sees out Parents’ Evenings (Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th) so please, please make sure you have booked your slots.

Well done, everyone, on a great start to the year, and have a lovely week!

  • Please aim to attend the performance set aside for your child’s year group.
  • For those wishing to see siblings, you may be able to see them all in one EYFS/KS1’s nativity (Monday and Tuesday) includes EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 in the same show.  KS2’s Nativity (Thursday and Friday) has Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 in the same show.
  • Those of you with a child in each Key Stage can, of course, see both shows
  • The KS2 children will be performing all around the church and in the aisles, so every seat in church will have a good view, including those at the very back of the church.

Daily Dash Challenge

Congratulations on completing the Ben Nevis challenge! Running a total of 574 miles is an incredible achievement, and it’s wonderful to see the dedication and effort from everyone who participated in the daily dash. We’ll look to starting a new challenge next term as a great way to keep the momentum going and continue promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Well done to all the participants for their hard work and determination!

Yr 6 Liverpool War Museum

As part of Year 6’s history topic on the second war and Blitz in Britain the children visited an underground war bunker in Liverpool.  The children toured hidden rooms and glimpsed documents and tools the Forces used to monitor enemy convoys and inform the British government of their findings, whilst keeping their intelligence secret from the enemy.  We visited the operations room which has remained exactly how as it was left when the doors were closed on 15 August 1945!

X-Country Winners!

Congratulations to all the children who participated in the cross-country event over at Belvidere Secondary School this afternoon, bringing home 1st place!

It was a remarkable team effort as the children cheered and supported each other throughout the event. Our school boasts some exceptionally strong runners who should be incredibly proud of their achievement. This victory not only showcases their athletic abilities but also the core values of teamwork and sportsmanship that our school instills in our children. Well done to all involved!

Year 3 Fire Safety Training

This morning, Year 3 had a visit from a fire engine! The children looked at the inside and outside of the fire truck and even got to use the hose. The firefighters also delivered a talk about fire safety in the home.
We are very grateful to Shropshire Fire and Rescue education team for providing this hands on learning experience. They even returned to school to finish their visit after they received an emergency call and had to attend an incident in the middle of the morning!

We love Hickorys

Year 5 had a fantastic Careers visit to Hickorys Smokehouse Restaurant. Manager Tim and the team pulled out all the stops in this personal tour for us. The children learnt about working the floor and the different kitchen roles including ‘Pitmaster’. They made a southern Mocktail 🍹and heard all about the benefits to working for Hickorys 😀

Thank you Hickorys for supporting our Careers Week.

Mini Ukulele Concert

Ukulele Club held their half term concert on Monday. They sang and played a variety of songs and rounds ranging from the Country Music “Thumb Brush Strum” to “Frère Jacques”. Their Grand Finale was “Yellow Submarine” which had all the families joining in. Mrs Wade and Mrs Barker say “Well done everyone!”

Eco Work

Some of our Eco Councillors helped to spread the word about ‘seed collection’ for the Belle Vue Tree Planting Group.

They were fantastic at approaching adults and explaining what they were doing.

If you would like to get involved, please collect some ‘tree seed’ during the holiday, bag and label it and bring it back to school. The Belle Vue Tree Planting Group will be using this to grow saplings.

Careers Talks in Year 3

Year 3 have had lots of chat about what we want to be when we grow up this week as we had visits from two Coleham parents to tell us about their careers. On Thursday, Mrs Renshaw told us about life as a restorer, guilder and decorative artist. We loved handling some of her beautifully crafted work including dolls house furniture she made as a child!
This morning, Mr Slogrove spoke to us about being an engineer for Wales Air Ambulance. We were fascinated to learn how helicopters stay in the air and how they take off and land safely. The children engaged really well with both talks and asked lots of interesting questions.

Landscape Architect Visit for Year 4

As part of careers week, Andrew came to talk to Year 4 about being a landscape architect: designing parks, play areas and regeneration areas. He even showed us a video of an innovation water feature in a park in Chicago. Andrew also told us all about how he became a landscape architect and the skills we needed to follow this career path.
