Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

It’s been another busy week at school with lots going on!  It was lovely to see Ms Jones again as she spent yesterday at school with David O’Toole (the 3-18 Education Trust CEO).  They spent the day observing school operations; popping into lessons; speaking to staff, children and leaders to get a picture of life here at Coleham.  It was a very positive day and they were happy with what they saw – we are very lucky to receive such supportive feedback from the Trust in this way.

A special well done goes to a footballers this week: the girls in Year 5 and 6 played a number of matches against Prestfelde on Wednesday and scored some great goals.  It was wonderful to see such passion and determination from the girls, and to also see how they encouraged each other.  Great stuff!

We’ve also enjoyed a Greek workshop in Year 5 this week, and have spotted the posters around the local area reminding people to clean up after their dogs – well done Josie: the world needs people like you to care more about their environment!

On Monday, we have our Harvest Festival Assembly, with Rev. Fi from Holy Trinity coming in.  Please see the article below about bringing in tinned food etc. for the food bank.

Have a super weekend, everyone!

Everyone is welcome!

It would be great to see as many children as possible eating a school lunch on Thursday please.

Daily Dash 3 Peaks Challenge

Our Daily Dash Challenge is underway and Miss Lewis reports that we have completed Snowden and are now attempting the distance of Scafell Pike.  Well done everyone!

This may take us a few more weeks to complete and so we will keep going!

We would love to see parents and carers joining in too.  The more runners that take part, the quicker we complete the challenge.

Please can we remind you that the corner gate is only open from 8:30-8:40am for Daily Dash runners and there shouldn’t be any children playing on the play equipment please.  From 8:40am families are able to access the school site for drop off.

Arbor Reminder

Please remember that ALL payments are now live on Arbor.

We would really appreciate you checking your balance for school dinners and wraparound care and making any outstanding payments.

Unfortunately, the ‘shopping basket’ facility doesn’t yet work on the Arbor app so you can’t pay for multiple items in one transaction.  You can do this if you are using a desktop.

Careers Week

Get involved in Careers Week

Our Careers week takes place week beginning 16th October 2023.

We love to open our doors and invite you to help us educate the children.

Can you come into school and talk to a class about your job, hobby or career?

We are looking for a few more visitors to fill some gaps, especially for our Reception Classes Badgers & Foxes, can you help?

Please speak to Miss Harris or Miss Melville or the school office.

We can’t wait to hear from you!

Harvest Festival Donations

We are looking forward to welcoming Rev. Fi Iddon from Holy Trinity Church, who will lead our Harvest Festival in school on Monday.

We will be supporting The Shrewsbury Food Bank.

The Shrewsbury Foodbank is based at the Barnabas Church Centre in Coleham.  The foodbank seeks to help people who find themselves in times of real hardship by addressing their most basic needs: food and household items.  They are extremely busy at the moment and would welcome any donations of food/household items (e.g. tinned fruit/meats, tinned meals, rice, pasta, tinned spaghetti, pasta sauces, UHT milk, toothpaste/toothbrushes/shower gel/deodorant/shampoo, laundry tablets, toilet paper and nappies).

Please place any donations on the tables set up at each entrance on Monday morning when you drop your child off at school.  We are going to ask our School Council to help take the food to the Food Bank and see what an important role the food bank plays in our community.

Thank you very much, in advance, for your generosity

We are looking for a NEW Parent Governor!

Early Years Conference

Well done to Miss Harris who was invited to be a key note speaker at the Shropshire Early Years Conference.

Miss Harris presented to local teachers and spoke about Language for problem solving and how the interactions we have with children are key to helping them to problem solve and make sense of the world, allowing children to think for themselves and be independent.

We are sure she did a brilliant job, as she inspires us everyday!

Greek Workshop

Shrewsbury Museum came to visit Year 5 to deliver a Greek workshop tying in with their history topic. Children explored Greek artefacts, dressed up for some mythical role play and had lots of fun.

Friendly Football

It was truly fantastic to see the sporting fixtures back in action, marking the exciting start of the new academic year with the first fixture this afternoon, at home on the school field

We organised some friendly football matches against Prestfelde for the U9 and U11 girls. All the girls showed remarkable passion and determination, fully immersing themselves into the game.

Well done, super effort from you all!

Spanish Lunch

It was ‘fiesta time’ at lunch time with some Spanish music to accompany the menu.

Art Collaboration with BVAF

Have you seen the BT box on Greyfriars Road?  The Belle Vue Arts Festival painted it this weekend using traced images created by our Year 6 pupils.  This project has been a long time coming, the pupils created the original sketches back in Year 4.  They were tasked with creating nature images using the form of one continuous line ‘loopy lines’.

Well done to all involved for bringing art to our School Street! It looks fantastic👌

Thanks to Paintwell for donating supplies and the BVAF.

Look at the artistic journey below.
