PSHE is Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. Coleham School provides a caring, positive, safe, and stimulating environment which promotes all pupils’ social, physical, emotional and moral development. We aim to help our pupils understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. Our PSHE curriculum contributes to developing the whole-person so all pupils are fully equipped for life and successful futures. PSHE sets learning within real-life contexts that affect our children, their parents and teachers, this is reflected in all areas of the curriculum.
We work hard to develop character and all members of our school community model Coleham’s values. We want our pupils to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives, and develop a strong sense of community both now and in the future so they are good people who contribute positively to society.
Our Vision
Through PSHE, our children will be:
- safe,
- healthy,
- independent,
- responsible.
1 Decision
We use the 1 Decision PSHE scheme to ensure high quality coverage of topics. 1decision resources were created by specialists working together with schools, and most importantly, children and have received the Quality Mark from the PSHE Association, which means that they include the very best practice as part of a whole-school approach to keeping children safe, happy, and healthy. See below for more information.

PSHE and Careers
We are very proud of our Coleham Careers Related Learning. Please see the link below:
Careers Page
Our popular Careers Week inspires all our pupils. We believe, that it is never too early to learn about Careers and have aspirations for the future. Each class has 2 careers visits during Careers Week, we’ve had some fantastic visitors including an Archaeologist, a Fashion Designer, Leader of the Philharmonic Orchestra and even an RAF Pilot who landed his helicopter on the school field! Each year is full of surprises and we look forward to welcoming a host of special visitors.

Celebrating PSHE
PSHE is embedded into everything we do and celebrated across our Creative Curriculum.
A sense of responsibility and commitment instils pupils with a sense of pride, team-work and self confidence and so we ask pupils to assist us in running the school by taking on jobs such as Playground Friends, Dining Hall Assistants and Librarians. These are modelled on real life jobs and embeds the idea of learning skills and qualities required for the workplace.
Our Coleham Community is very special to us and we organise a range of community events where we can all come together-families past and present and our neighbours and elderly residents, everybody is made welcome. It is important to us that our pupils have opportunities to socialise and communicate, build relationships and develop their independence in a safe space.
We teach the children to care about their environment and their community both locally and nationally and we participate in local projects and support charitable and social causes. Our children spend lots of time getting out and about in our town making a difference.
We take great effort to educate our children on health and safety and do this by providing practical and memorable experiences such as Bikeability, Stepping Out Road Safety, Crucial Crew workshop, CSO visits, Nutrition & Healthy Eating Workshops to name a few. We have strong partnerships with local organisations and professionals that help us deliver safety messages to the children.
