The Eco Council is a vital part of our school. We are proud to have pupil representatives that take part in Eco Council meetings, which ensures that pupils have a voice and regularly consult the whole school to ensure all queries relating to the environment and our school are raised and addressed within our objectives. We aim to go beyond ‘Pupil Voice’ and ensure our children are actively organising events and affecting change.
We are an inclusive school and we want as many children as possible to contribute to Eco Council duties and so our Eco Council is special in the fact that new children are selected for each meeting or project. Children vote for other children in their class from a range of nominees so they are elected in a fair and democratic way. The Eco Council has regular meetings and the children take turns to Chair and minute the meetings.
The members of the council take their roles very seriously and, as a result of their hard work, have orchestrated and coordinated positive changes within the school.
School issues are discussed first in-class, led by their elected councillor, and then the class’ views are discussed further at School Council in a democratic manner. This ensures that as many pupil voices as possible are heard. Pupils at Coleham know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter.
Our Eco Council are instrumental in planning the objectives to maintain our ‘Green School’ accreditation.
We look to gain support and advice from local charities and achieve a better understanding of how we can reduce our environmental impact for the future of all our pupils.
Coleham sits at the very heart of our community and so the Eco Council are regularly out and about visiting our neighbours and assisting in local green space projects that affect our community.
We work with local social enterprise The Street Allotment Project who are reinvigorating our school allotment plot for community use. They hold regular Community Allotment mornings which anyone can get involved with.

If any parents feel that they have contacts with suitable ‘eco’ schemes, or indeed work within any charities or companies, please do not hesitate to contact the school as we welcome the support and ideas of volunteers to help with our pledge!
