Parent Survey

Dear Parents/Carers,

The 3-18 Education Trust have created a Parent/Carer Survey for all schools in our trust and they would very much like the views of all parents and carers.  This is a multiple choice, anonymous survey.

It is important that we have a good response rate to collate as many views as possible.

We really hope that all our Parent/Carers can complete this survey-it should only take a couple of minutes of your time.

Please complete the survey below:

TRUST PARENT/CARER SURVEY

Please complete the survey below:

EYFS Nursery Rhyme Week

Dear Parents and Carers,

13th – 17th November 2023

World Nursery Rhyme Week is fast approaching, and we are delighted to confirm that children in Reception will be taking part. The initiative, launched in 2013, promotes the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development with a particular focus on how nursery rhymes boost early language and literacy skills.

We have a number of activities planned throughout the week to celebrate various Nursery Rhymes. Please see below:

  • Monday (Old Macdonald had a farm) – Visit from a Mobile Farm
  • Tuesday – (The Grand Old Duke of York) – Visit from The Grand Old Duke of York
  • Wednesday – (Pat a cake, Pat a cake) – Cake Making Workshop
  • Thursday – (Dingle Dangle Scarecrow) – Scarecrow Making Workshop
  • Friday – (The Wheels on the Bus) – Vintage Bus Ride around town
  • Friday – Dress up Day

In order to cover the cost of these events, we kindly ask that parents contribute the amount of £10.50 per child. Payment is to be made via your child’s Arbor account prior to Nursery Rhyme Week (13th -17th November).

In addition to these events we will also be holding a Rhyme Time in the school hall led by Mrs Porrett, for children and their parents/carers. These will take place on the following dates:

  • Badgers Class – Tuesday 14th November at 2:30pm
  • Foxes Class – Wednesday 15th November at 2:30pm

We would love as many of you as possible to come along, but appreciate that some of you may be working. In these circumstances please do invite an alternative carer such as a grandparent, family member or whoever would normally collect your child on that day.

Finally, on Friday 17th November we would like to end the week by inviting children to come to school dressed as their favourite Nursery Rhyme Character. Please do not feel the need to purchase costumes and go to lots of expense. I’m sure lots of you already have a variety of dressing up clothes that can be adapted. You may even choose to make something simple. Please see below for some examples:

  • Little Bo Peep – Simple dress with a sheep toy
  • Jack and Jill – Everyday clothes with an empty bucket
  • Old Macdonald – Dungarees and Checked Shirt or animal costumes
  • Little Miss Muffet – Dress with a spider
  • It’s raining it’s pouring – Child in wellies
  • Hickory Dickory Dock – Mouse Ears

We can’t wait to celebrate a wonderful week of rhyming with your children. Please do speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Harris

Parent Governor Election

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are writing to inform you of a vacancy for the role of parent local governor on our Local Governing Body (LGB).

The role of the LGB

The school’s LGB is responsible for providing confident and strategic leadership, and creating robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the school’s educational and financial performance. The LGB is passionate about education and committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

The role of a parent local governor

As a parent local governor, you’ll work with the LGB to ensure it effectively carries out the duties referred to above. You’ll also play a vital role in ensuring that the LGB is connected with, and is aware of the views of, parents and the local community.

To be a parent local governor you should have:

  • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children.
  • Good inter-personal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • The specific skills required to ensure the governing board delivers effective governance.

Being a parent local governor can be demanding but very rewarding.  All local governors serve a three-year term of office and under usual circumstances, can expect to spend between 10 and 20 days a year on governance duties.  These include:

  • attending meetings of the LGB, usually outside of school hours and contributing to LGB business;
  • reading reports and papers and keeping up to date on the progress that the school is making; and
  • visiting the school from time to time during the school day.

You will have to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and sign the local governors’ Code of Conduct.  A copy of the Code of Conduct, Role Description and more information about the LGB can be found on LGB’s pages of the school’s website.

We have a supportive induction process which will enable a period of settling into the role.

How to apply

If you’re interested in applying for the role, please email the Governance Professional, Carole Warner by email by 10am Friday 27th October (carole.warner@318education.co.uk).

You should also include a personal statement (approximate 250 words) to support your application.  We encourage candidates to be succinct when setting out the skills, experience and attributes that they can bring to the LGB to support their application. Nominations of other parents will be accepted, but please seek their prior consent.

Applications/nominations can only be accepted from parents or carers who have children registered at the school on the day that nominations close. If we receive more applications/nominations than there are vacancies, an election will be carried out. We will inform you after the nomination deadline if we have to do this.

If you have any queries about this process or would like to find out more about the role, please contact the Chair of the LGB Mr Dave Jones or the Headteacher, Mr Tom Larkham

Yours sincerely,

Mr Dave Jones                                                      Mr Tom Larkham

Hindu Visit for EYFS, Year 2 and Year 5

Instead of going on a trip to a place of worship, we have arranged for EYFS, Year 2 and Year 5 pupils to take part in a Diwali workshop at school on Friday 10th November. During the day, children will take part in various activities to learn more about the Hindu faith, with a focus on Diwali and the festival of lights.  The workshop will allow the children to explore making music with authentic Indian instruments and will centre around the story of Rama and Sita and the Festival of Light.

We would be really grateful if parents can contribute £4 per child towards the cost of the workshop. Payment is to be made via your child’s Arbor account prior to the date of the workshop please. Many thanks.

Year 4 Ancient Rome Day

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of their topic on the Ancient Romans, Year 4 class will be having an Ancient Rome Day on Thursday 26th October.

The day will include lots of exciting activities linked to this theme. Please can your child bring an empty cereal box in too, as we will be doing some Roman-themed crafting on the day.

If possible, we would like the children to come to school dressed as a Roman, be it a Centurion, an Emperor, a “citizen of Rome”, a slave or a Roman God/Goddess! Please do not feel you need to purchase dressing-up items for this event: a flat bed sheet can easily be turned into a Toga; a large scrap of fabric or plain clothes and scarf as a slave tunic, a cardboard box and some tin foil into a Centurion’s Breastplate or shield.  Please see some inspiration below.

We will be going outside during the day so please ensure your child brings outdoor shoes and a coat.

We are really looking forward to being Romans for the day!

Yours sincerely,

Miss Armstrong & Miss Lewis

Year 3 Stone Age Workshop

We are excited to share with you that on Tuesday 7th November, we will be welcoming Widget Workshops in to share a ‘Stone Age’ day with Year 3.  As we have no other way of funding the workshop we would be grateful if parents can contribute £6.80 per child towards the cost of the workshop. Payment is to be made via your child’s Arbor account prior to the date of the workshop please.

During the day, children will take part in various activities to learn more about Stone Age life including time spent in our woodland area looking at housing and using Virtual Reality headsets to experience famous Stone Age locations.  The children really loved this interactive element last year.  Please let us know if you do not want your child to take part in the VR headset experience.

As we will be going outside, please send your children into school in non-uniform with suitable outdoor shoes and waterproofs to change into when needed.

We are really looking forward to sharing this experience with the year group and will be sure to upload photos of the day on Dojo after the event!

Elephants Careers Trip

For Careers Week, we have arranged for Elephants Class to go out of school for a Careers Trip on Friday 20th October.  Elephants Class will visit Moneypenny call centre in Wrexham.

Moneypenny is an award winning workplace and will really inspire the children and get them thinking about future work places.  Moneypenny started in 2000 with a business idea to manage other businesses communications when owners were on holiday.  They are now a leading communications company with a 1000-strong team working from state-of-the-art headquarters in Wrexham.  We’ll be visiting their £15 million headquarters which was built with the staff ultimate wish list in mind.  Their business ethos centres around happy staff and so staff came up with some interesting design ideas including a giant Gorilla and a Treehouse meeting room.   We will have a personal tour from Hannah, a Q&A session and visit the staff ‘pub’ for lunch before we head back to school.

We will be leaving school around 9:20am and will return to school at approximately 1:30pm.  Your child should wear school uniform and bring their water bottle and a snack.  Moneypenny is kindly providing sandwiches for us all and so no packed lunch or school dinner is required.

The cost of the trip is £10.15.  Payment for this trip should be made via your child’s Arbor account prior to the date of the trip. Although costs for trips are voluntary, the school has no other means of funding these trips and the budget for resources and activities is very limited this year.  We hope that everyone can contribute to the trip in some way.

Please note that this visit is covered by the Annual Consent Form for Trips/visits & Medical Information. Please notify the school immediately if there are any changes to your contact/emergency contact details or medical information.
