We’ve just welcomed back all of Year 4 who have had the most amazing time at PGL over the last couple of days.  Miss Lewis and Miss Armstrong tell me they have been incredible and a credit to the school and all of you – a huge WELL DONE and THANK YOU goes out to Miss Lewis, Miss Armstrong and their team of Mrs Jeff, Mrs Lord, Ms Wisdom and Mr Halford for giving up their time to make sure these incredibly important residentials happen.

We’ve also had a champion netball team, Year 5 class assemblies and the absolutely fantastic Eco Fashion Show.  Next week, we are looking forward to seeing Alice in Wonderland – make sure you’ve got your tickets!

Tom Holt is the winemaker and owner of Paso-Primero. After working at Tanners Wines, Tom travelled the world with the dream of one day making his own wine, in his own style. After five vintages in New Zealand and Canada, he ended up in the Spanish Pyrenees where he has created an incredible portfolio of award winning wines. On the 26th of April he will take us through that portfolio and share his journey from Shrewsbury to Somontano, and back again.

Year 5 Eco Fashion Show

Year 5 have been learning about ‘fast fashion’ and its global impact on the environment and this week put on a FANTASTIC Eco Fashion Show!  Year 5 you should be so proud, you pushed yourselves outside of your comfort zone and displayed great teamwork.  The children have sewn clothes, customised clothes, made clothes from rubbish, rehearsed lines, set up staging, sold clothes afterwards and had fun modelling! #confidence #publicspeaking #careerchoices

We made the news!  Check out the Shropshire Star News Article

Our Eco Fashion Show was very timely as just a few days later France have voted to back measures to make fast fashion less attractive.  Read the Guardian Article.

RSHE Policy

Dear Parents/Carers,

Relationship and Health Education (RHE)

It is compulsory for all schools to teach Relationships Education and Health Education. The purpose of these subjects is to support all young people to be happy, healthy and safe – to equip them for adult life and to help support children to make positive contributions to society.

Our current Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Physical Health and Mental Well-Being Policy has undergone its periodic review.

You can read our updated policy below

RSHE Policy Spring Consultation 2024

As part of this, all schools are required to consult with parents/carers when developing and reviewing their policies, which will inform decision on when and how certain content is covered.

Effective engagement gives the space and time for parent/carers to input, ask questions, share concerns and for the school to decide the way forward. We will listen to your views, and then make a reasonable decision on how best to proceed. When and how content is taught is ultimately a decision for the school, and consultation does not provide a parental veto on curriculum content.

Completing the Parent Consultation Online Survey

You can complete the online survey by clicking on the link below:

Online Survey

Please note the survey is available to complete at any point, with no end date – responses will be reviewed periodically by our PSHE Lead Mrs Field, and considered when the policy is reviewed each year.

Alternatively you may wish to discuss the Policy content in person and so we have arranged a time to do this.

Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

It’s been wonderful to see so much excitement and engagement around reading this week for World Book Week, culminating in a fantastic day yesterday!  So many home-made costumes and obscure characters, too – it really shows the depth of the love for reading at Coleham School.

Reading is so very, very important to children’s future prospects.  The World Book Day organisation reported this week that children across the country are put off reading for many reasons, with 25% saying that they are made to read books they don’t want to read.  At Coleham, we aim to foster a real love for reading and would encourage all children (and grown-ups!) to read what they want to read, so long as it is appropriate for them.  I think what we have seen this week shows that our community is doing something right to foster that love of reading!

Lots is also happening next week: Year 5 fashion show, Year 4 residential, trips…

Have a lovely weekend!

World Book Day Pop- Up Shop

On World Book Day, our children were able to go to our Pop-up shop in the library to choose a 2024 World Book Day book to take home and keep.  We are so glad that we can do this for our pupils.  Than you to Independent bookshop Pengwern Books.

Getting into character!

Our staff showing their love for fictional characters and creating a special day of World Book Day memories.

World Book Day

What a day of celebrating books and our favourite fictional characters!

Children spent their tokens at our World Book Day Pop-Up Shop and Monday’s Book Fair and story themed sweet shop was a sell out!

Take a look at what we got up to, which characters can you spot?

Book Fair & Sweet Shop

Thanks to all our families for supporting our Book Fair and our first World Book Day Sweet Shop! Year 1 pupils did a lovely job bagging up the sweets to sell for their enterprise activity with all the profits going to school.  Thanks to Gisela Robinson Illustration for staying too to sell her merchandise.

SMAG Birthday

Can you believe its been 10 years of Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery? To celebrate their 10th birthday SMAG asked Miss Heap to share what the Museum means to our pupils 😀 #Shrewsburyhistory #Shrewsburyart

Illustrator Talk

To celebrate World Book Week, Years 3 & 4 had a talk from visiting Illustrator Gisela Robinson. Gisela told us about her home country Argentina and how she became an Illustrator later in life after having a family and changing her career.  She showed us some picture book Illustrators from different countries who inspire her and the entire process of sketching and painting for ‘The Book Thief’ book cover she worked on.  Thank you Gisela for sharing your life as an Illustrator with us!

Illustrator Workshop

Local Illustrator Gisella Robinson worked with Year 3 to produce their own book covers with acrylics.  Gisella then professionally printed these for us!! They look great!

Lunchtime Fun

Some healthy lunchtime fun from our Catering Team who love a dress up! The tasting table was a hit with the younger children at lunchtime.  Tasting peppers in the ‘Eat them to defeat them’ campaign. #healthyeating #

Staff Talent!

Our staff team watched Priscilla Queen of the Desert musical at Theatre Severn on Friday night- cheering on the incredible Miss Cox and Mrs Porrett in the band! 💃🎷Such talent 👏 We are so lucky to have great local theatre in Shrewsbury. Thank you @ Get your wigle on

School Production

Our School Production of ‘Alice’ is coming up on the last week of term, before we break up for Easter.  We will be selling tickets soon but need to set up an Arbor School Shop to do this.  Don’t worry though, of course all the crew and cast members families will be able to attend and also other members of our school community.

Headteacher Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hopefully the daffodils are smiling in your gardens as we head into March – where has the year gone!?

This week I had the pleasure of buying a ticket to watch some EYFS drama of Jack & The Beanstalk which was great fun!  Well done to all the children who had a go on the stage!  I also enjoyed seeing Miss Heap in Year 5 today prepping the children for the Eco Fashion Show which promises to be a real treat.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who made appointments to speak to your children’s teachers – if you haven’t managed to do so, please do get in touch and we can see what can be arranged.

Next week, we are looking forward to World Book Week!  I wonder what your favourite books are?

Have a lovely weekend!

Yr 5 Fashion Show Prep

We are gearing up for the Year 5 Eco Fashion Show.  The children got busy customising old clothes and creating new clothes from recycled materials for the ‘rubbish runway’.  They really enjoyed this process and we saw some great teamwork.  We can’t wait to see the finished articles being modelled in a few weeks time!
