Dear Parents and Carers,

Quite a lot to fit in to this week’s newsletter!  Please make sure you see the information about classes for next year, and those of you with children in EYFS, Years 2 and 4 will be receiving separate letters shortly confirming which class they will be in.

Please also make sure you pop and see the children’s art for the Belle Vue Arts Festival which is on display next week in the Barnabas Gallery!  It was so lovely to see all the children working hard over the last few weeks creating some beautiful art.  Well done to everyone involved!

Finally, a big thank you to all the Year 6 staff that made the residential to Pioneer such a success for the children!  They had a great time and have come back with some wonderful memories.

Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you to lots of parents and grandparents for joining us for lunch today.  It was lovely to have you and the children really enjoyed it!

Yr 3 Liverpool Trip

Year 3 had a brilliant day in Liverpool visiting The World Museum first and then on to The Walker Art Gallery.  The children looked around the Egyptian exhibition and other areas including space, dinosaurs and sea life and took part in an exciting mummification workshop.  In the Art Gallery the children chose their favourite works of art to sketch.  This year we have had a trips focus on galleries as we want all of our pupils throughout school to experience visiting an Art Gallery so its great to see Year 3 venturing further afield to visit a gallery in the city.

EYFS Mammoth Hunt

Badgers and Foxes topic is ‘Long ago and far away’ and after reading The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth the classes set off to the Museum to find out more.  They explored the museum for the missing mammoth, looked at artefacts, did some cave painting, learnt about fossils and made some stone age tools.  Thank you SM&AG for creating this workshop for our Reception children.

Headteacher Message

Dear Parents & Carers,

Another incredibly busy and successful half-term has come and gone, and we all look forward to a well-earned rest next week.  I look back on the last 7 weeks and so much has happened: lots of trips & visitors, interviews for new staff, busy work around arrangements for 2024-25, Plant & Craft Fair, Year 6 SATs, incredible perseverance from the children and much, much more.  I am incredibly proud of what the children and the whole school team have achieved this term so far.

After half-term, there are 7 more weeks until the end of the whole year and there is much more to come!  There are community events, including the Garden Bar and Quiz Night, music concerts, Year 6’s leaver’s assembly, sports days, Olympic Week, school disco… there will also be announcements about class mixes and your children’s teachers for 2024-25 after the half-term break – so much to look forward to!

Have a super Bank Holdiay weekend and half-term break, and we look forward to seeing you all back on the 3rd June.

Tennis Coaching this Saturday

This Saturday Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis have a fundraiser day offering some coaching for juniors and parents at 11am 😁  Donations are appreciated as they are raising money for disability coaching for Severndale school.  Contact Coach Harrison if you would like to pop along.

Morris Dancing

Jump & Jive KS1 Music Club welcomed members of Shrewsbury Morris Dancing for their final club session this week. The children performed  their ‘Hokey Cokey Rap’ with claves, sang a selection of songs and joined in two dances with Ray Langton on the accordion. Red hankies waving, clapping and counting and lots of fun! Well done Jump & Jive! See you after half term for our Pirate-themed Music club involving treasure….

Thank you to Mrs Wade for organising such fantastic visitors for Music Club!

Singing @ Hazledine

Mrs Porrett took a group of singers to perform to the residents at Hazledine Court. What lovely afternoon for singing.

Ukulele Parent Showcase

Year 1 have been learning to play the Ukulele this year with Music Teacher Mrs Porrett and today they performed a mini showcase to their parents.  It’s great that our youngest children can all learn to play an instrument, it improves their dexterity which helps little hands with writing, co-ordination and the lovely singing that goes with it brightens up the day.  Well done Year 1 for persevering and perfecting their Ukulele skills.

Plant & Craft Fair 2024

The Plant & Craft Fair is the best example of our special community ❤️ Everyone came together to make it happen including past parents & pupils, grandparents, ex-staff, friends in the community and lots of children who all ran stalls.  It is always the first event of the Belle Vue Arts Festival and a highlight on the social calendar. 2024 was full of ‘Treasures’ and good vibes. Thank you to everybody for growing, baking, donating, entering competitions, volunteering, coming along and supporting us! We really appreciate your efforts.  We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!

Children Entrepreneurs

So many children got creative making things to sell at our Plant & Craft Fair.  Not only did they make products but they came up with business names, designed signage and packaging and displayed things beautifully for their customers.  The children all demonstrated the employability skills in our Careers Education! Amazing!

Well done to Romily who made Jewellery, Isla with her Hama bead products, Lauren with a range of art, the Scrunchie Sisters Mae and Rosa and Josie with her Brave Beads raising funds for Brownies.

The Year 5 girls Georgie, Ruby, Mae and Emily did a roaring trade with their Pet-tastic Puddings Incorporated making cakes for puppies, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs.  They even brought their pet rabbit along with them for some taste testing.

Milly in Year 6 came up with a netball challenge/cake stall raising money for school and lots of other children also helped to run stalls.

Thank you everybody for some great school fundraising!
