A huge thank you to the coaches at Town Walls Tennis Club for hosting our Dolphins class. We had a fantastic afternoon learning new tennis skills from ex-players. It was a great experience staying within our community.

Celebrating Success at the Swimming Gala!

Congratulations to all the children who participated in this week’s swimming gala! Despite it being their first time for many, their impressive swimming strokes and stamina secured several 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes. We’re thrilled to have achieved a fantastic 2nd place overall. Well done to all our young swimmers!

Exciting Tennis Taster Session for Our KS1 Children!

We’re thrilled to share that our KS1 children had a blast this week with a tennis taster session hosted by Tennis Shropshire, courtesy of the Shrewsbury Club.

The session was filled with enthusiasm as the children actively participated in tennis drills, honing their skills and having a great time in the process.

Thank you to Tennis Shropshire and the Shrewsbury Club for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our young learners!

 

Netball Runner-ups!

We are immensely proud of this group of children for their participation in a netball tournament, where they competed in several matches over the past few months. Initially, during our first match, the children were unfamiliar with positions and had little experience playing together. However, as the weeks progressed, we witnessed remarkable growth. They displayed exceptional teamwork, demonstrated excellent attacking and defensive skills, and scored impressive goals. Among six schools, we achieved a commendable 2nd place overall. Congratulations on your outstanding efforts!

Sportshall Athletics

Well done to all the children who took part in the Sportshall Athletics competition over at the Shrewsbury Sports Village. As always, you showed great determination and showed great team sportsmanship, cheering each other on.

Dolphins Trip to the Reabrook

Despite the rain putting a dampener on our plans, our visit to the Reabrook was nothing short of an adventure! While the weather may have altered our course, we made the most of our time by embarking on a picturesque walk along the length of the brook. Along the way, we engaged in captivating discussions about the Reabrook’s history, turning our journey into an educational experience filled with fascinating river facts. Despite the downpour, the children’s spirits remained undaunted, relishing every moment spent in the great outdoors.

Year 4 Dodgeball Competition

A big well done to some of our Year 4 children for their excellent performance in this week’s dodgeball competition over at Meole Brace Secondary School. They played exceptionally well as a team, never gave up, and reached the quarter-finals. Congratulations on representing Coleham admirably and embodying our school values. Well done, as always!.

Netball Development Day

We had an excellent day at Shrewsbury Sports Village for a Netball Development Day, coached by England Netball in Bee Netball drills. We learned and developed new netball skills through a carousel of activities and concluded with matches to apply our abilities. Everyone represented Coleham exceptionally well, showcasing sportsmanship and teamwork. Well done to all for being superb role models.

Dodgeball

Well done to the children that took part in this weeks dodgeball competition over at Mary Webb Secondary School. The team worked extremely hard together and performed incredibly well to reach the semi-finals. They showed a great attitude and showed respect towards other teams and the officials, representing Coleham and our values brilliantly.

Football Tournament

A selection of Year 5 and Year 6 children represented Coleham at a football tournament against schools in and around Shrewsbury. They all played brilliantly together as a team and made the school very proud by coming 3rd place overall. Well done to all that took part.

Year 4 Sewing Project

Year 4 have been very busy, analysing, designing and making their very own Roman purses. There were some impressive sewing skills observed, with children accurately completing a running stitch. The children showcased excellent craftsmanship, ambition, and perseverance throughout the project.

A special thank you goes to the group of parent volunteers who very kindly came in and helped the children in completing their sewing project.

Kwick Cricket Competition

Congratulations to all the children who participated in the Kwick Cricket competition at Shrewsbury Sports Village! Both the A and B teams made it to the quarterfinals, showcasing excellent teamwork and progression in each match. You all showed brilliant dedication and sportsmanship, well done!

Year 3/4 Netball Workshop

We had an amazing time at the Shrewsbury High netball courts during a delightful afternoon filled with netball workshops. The afternoon concluded with an exciting mini-game that we won 3-2. The children actively participated in workshops covering defending, attacking, reacting, and shooting. Despite their hands being extremely cold, the girls showcased fantastic skills and enthusiasm throughout. Well done for your super efforts!

 

Netball Winners!

An outstanding effort tonight in yet another fantastic evening of netball! Our selected group of children participated in netball matches at Shrewsbury Sports Village, and I must express my immense satisfaction, especially given that it’s only our second week. The team exhibited brilliant cohesion, showcasing excellent netball skills. Remarkably, we secured victories in all three matches played. Keep up the good work!

Year 2 Multiskills Event

Today marked a significant moment for some of our Year 2 students as they embarked on their first sports fixture at Meole Brace Secondary School. Participating in a carousel of activities, each child exhibited remarkable prowess, dedicating their full effort to every task. Their seamless integration with children from other schools and exceptional teamwork were truly commendable. Congratulations for an outstanding performance – well done!

Rugby World Cup Competition

Miss Lewis is thrilled to share the exciting results of our recent whole school competition during the Rugby World Cup.

  1. Third Place (England): The whole school received free reader rugby chapter books for the library.
  2. Second Place (New Zealand): Turtles class won whole class reading books.
  3. First Place (South Africa): Foxes class earned an extra PE session with Mr. Halford and a whole class rugby reading book.

The competition not only celebrated sportsmanship but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and the joy of reading within the school community.

Year 6 Sports Leaders

For the past 10 weeks, all Year 6 children have been diligently working on their sports leadership qualification. I’m pleased to announce that each student has successfully completed the program and received a certificate for their efforts.

A special mention goes to this group of children for their exceptional performance in leading a sporting activity for the Year 1 students.

Well done to all Year 6s! Your hard work and excellence are truly commendable.

Tag Rugby Competition

Congratulations to all the children who took part in this week’s tag rugby competition at Shrewsbury Rugby Club. Despite facing some tricky matches, our children exhibited remarkable perseverance, exemplary teamwork, and unwavering team spirit.
Their dedication and commitment to both the sport and their fellow teammates reflect the values we hold dear at our school. Well done to each and everyone one of you for your outstanding efforts on the field.

X-Country Winners!

Congratulations to all the children who participated in the cross-country event over at Belvidere Secondary School this afternoon, bringing home 1st place!

It was a remarkable team effort as the children cheered and supported each other throughout the event. Our school boasts some exceptionally strong runners who should be incredibly proud of their achievement. This victory not only showcases their athletic abilities but also the core values of teamwork and sportsmanship that our school instills in our children. Well done to all involved!

 

Landscape Architect Visit for Year 4

As part of careers week, Andrew came to talk to Year 4 about being a landscape architect: designing parks, play areas and regeneration areas. He even showed us a video of an innovation water feature in a park in Chicago. Andrew also told us all about how he became a landscape architect and the skills we needed to follow this career path.

A very wet Football Competition!

Wow, the weather couldn’t have chosen a worse time! A massive congratulations to all the children who participated in tonight’s football competition. For many of you, it was your first time representing Coleham, and I was incredibly proud of each and every one of you. You played brilliantly as a team, showcasing excellent football skills, and you persevered through the rain, refusing to let the wet and cold deter you from giving your best.

An extra special shout-out to the Year 3’s who made it to the semi-finals and ended up in 4th place overall out of 11 teams.

Friendly Tag Rugby Match

Well done to all the children who participated in today’s friendly tag rugby match on the school field against Greenfields. It’s great to have the opportunity to welcome other schools to us and organise matches where our children can proudly represent Coleham while working together as a team.

Every child exhibited brilliant teamwork and put their acquired skills from PE into action. Keep up the good work!

Miss Lewis meets Olympian Beth Tweddle and former Lioness Sue Smith!

Miss Lewis attended the Shropshire PE Conference at Shrewsbury Town today, where she had the honour of meeting Olympian Beth Tweddle, Bronze Medallist in Gymnastics at the London Olympics in 2012. Listening to Beth’s inspirational story has reinforced our commitment to encouraging our children to keep reaching for their goals and desires.

Miss Lewis also had the pleasure of connecting with former Lioness Sue Smith, further fuelling her dedication to enhancing sports and PE.

She eagerly shared her thoughts and ideas with other schools during the conference.

Football Competition

Great job to our footballers this week for taking part in the competition at Shrewsbury School. We made it to the quarter-finals, and although the game ended in a 0-0 draw, it’s unfortunate that we lost in a penalty shootout against Meole Brace.

Once again, our children displayed some fantastic football skills and teamwork. Their performance was superb. Keep up the good work!

 

Cricket

This half term, several classes – Hedgehogs, Owls, Starfish, and Dolphins – have been participating in weekly cricket sessions led by Mr. Smith from the Shropshire Cricket Board. Over the course of these sessions, the children have been steadily improving and learning new cricket skills. They are now excited to showcase their progress by participating in mini games next week.

 

Friendly Football

It was truly fantastic to see the sporting fixtures back in action, marking the exciting start of the new academic year with the first fixture this afternoon, at home on the school field

We organised some friendly football matches against Prestfelde for the U9 and U11 girls. All the girls showed remarkable passion and determination, fully immersing themselves into the game.

Well done, super effort from you all!

Cricket Engagement Day

We have had a cricket engagement day for years 1 to 5, coached by Tyler Ibbotson, from Shropshire Cricket. Children throughout school participated in a fun 30 minute cricket session out on the field.

 

Football Champions

What a fantastic way to wrap up the week, bringing home the Cup!

We couldn’t be prouder of our team’s victory in the Crossbar Cup today. The sportsmanship displayed was truly admirable, and the teamwork and team spirit were exceptional. Our well-deserved win is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Well done boys!

Area Athletics – 2nd overall!

Wow! What an incredible evening we have had competing in the area athletics event. We received a remarkable second place overall, competing against 12 other schools!

We are feeling extremely proud of all the children who participated in the area athletics competition this evening. It was truly heartwarming to witness the amazing support and encouragement you all showed for one another. There were some outstanding displays of running and competition and each and everyone of you should feel very proud of yourselves.

Your representation of Coleham was exemplary and your sportsmanship demonstrated the true spirit of our school.

Rounders Festival

Well done to all the children who took part in the rounders festival today, at Meole Brace. You played brilliantly as a team and put in so much effort, good work!
