At Coleham Primary School, we are passionate about our Careers related-learning. We believe it is essential to equip our children for their future careers and the workplace. It is never too early to instil ambition within all our children therefore, our careers related learning begins in EYFS all the way up to Year 6. We want to inspire our children with a range of careers and for them to become knowledgeable about career pathways and choices they can access in further education and adulthood. We also want to develop key employability skills so children are confident at public speaking, team work, problem solving and leadership to name a few. Our Enrichment Offer is a big part of what we do at Coleham and it is key that children have lots of opportunities to develop new talents and skills and be immersed in career related discussions in all subjects, clubs and enrichment.
Our Vision
Every pupil by the end of Year 6 can explain potential careers they are interested in and the various post 16 routes that will lead to these.
Through Careers related learning, our children will:
- aspire to be ambitious and driven in a competitive workplace market,
- make links between our curriculum and future careers,
- be knowledgeable about career pathways and choices they can access for employment,
- develop employability skills necessary for their future careers. These include: Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving, Initiative & Enterprise, Planning & Organising, Self-Management, Learning and Technology.
We are currently working to further embed our careers related learning into all areas of our curriculum and enrichment offer and drive forward our Careers Related provision.

Celebrating Careers
Our popular Careers Week gives all our pupils meaningful experiences with local employees and employers. Each class has 2 careers visits during Careers Week, we’ve had some fantastic visitors including an Archaeologist, a Fashion Designer, Leader of the Philharmonic Orchestra and even an RAF Pilot who landed his helicopter on the school field! Each year is full of surprises. We welcome an array of visitors throughout the year and capitalise on careers learning wherever we can, when we visit orgnisations in and beyond our community.

Our pupils have positions of responsibility within school. This commitment instils pupils with a sense of pride, team-work and self confidence and so we ask pupils to assist us in running the school by taking on jobs such as Playground Friends, Dining Hall Assistants and Librarians. These are modelled on real life jobs and embeds the idea of learning skills and qualities required for the workplace.
