Relationships and Health Education (RHE) includes Relationships Education, Relationships & Sex Education and Health Education. RHSE is taught within the personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) curriculum.
RHSE involves a combination of sharing information, and exploring issues and values. The purpose of these subjects is to support all young people to be happy, healthy and safe – to equip them for adult life and to have respect for themselves and for each other.
We emphasise the importance of relationships and keeping safe (including online safety). Biological aspects of RHSE is taught as part of the Science and RHSE curriculum.
Relationships education focuses on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships including:
- Families and people who care for me
- Caring friendships
- Respectful relationships
- Online relationships
- Being safe
Our Vision
Through RHSE, our children will:
- be able to take part in sensitive discussions and learn the importance of talking,
- be prepared for the changes that come with growing up including puberty, and gain an understanding of sexual development and the importance of health and hygiene,
- develop feelings of self-respect, confidence and empathy,
- contribute to a positive culture around issues of sexuality and relationships,
- learn the correct vocabulary to describe themselves and their bodies.

Parent Consultation
We would like to consult with parents/carers when developing and reviewing our policy for Relationship and Health Education, which will inform decisions on when and how certain content is covered.
Effective engagement gives the space and time for parent/carers to input, ask questions, share concerns and for the school to decide the way forward. We will listen to your views, and then make a reasonable decision on how best to proceed.
You can find further details about the introduction of compulsory Relationships and Health Education, as well as answers to many other frequently asked questions, on the Government website.

Other Resources
In school, we use NSPCC ‘PANTS Underwear Rule’ resources to teach children that their body belongs to them, they have a right to say no, and that they should tell an adult if they’re upset or worried or made to feel uncomfortable.
