At Coleham our aim is to inspire every child to be passionate about Physical Education and Sport, while bringing PE to the heart of the school. We believe that Physical Education and sport is for everyone! We aim to inspire pupils and staff so they enjoy PE, Sport, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle that continues throughout their lives. Learning teamwork and communication from team sports are key skills for future careers. PE is vital in its contribution to a child’s physical and emotional development and health and wellbeing.
Pupils take part in regular, high quality P.E lessons. Outdoor PE lessons are led by specialist Sports Coach Mr Halford and Class Teachers teach movement/dance and gymnastics weekly. We provide opportunities for the children to compete against themselves and others during PE lessons, building character and developing key values including fair play, respect, communication, collaboration, commitment, leadership and teamwork.
Pupils in Years 3 to 6 all complete a block of swimming and water safety lessons at the Quarry swimming pool.

Through PE, our children will:
be equipped with key physical and social skills that can be facilitated through PE and sport,

Celebrating PE and Sport
We develop strong relationships and competitive links with local partnerships and community sporting organisations, providing children access to develop and pursue sports and activities beyond school and promoting sports facilities in our community to the children. This year Coleham School joined up with Shrewsbury Junior Park Run in a Takeover Event to promote the free, family fitness event and it was a great turnout, we ended up being the biggest Junior Parkrun event in the country!
For our school wellbeing and fitness we encourage all staff to act as sporting role models and we love nothing more than coming together to give it our best effort! Check out our whole school line dancing in the rain!

We start the school day off with an active 10 minutes at our Daily Dash for children and parents. There is a wide range of extra-curricular sports clubs on offer with at least 5 active sports clubs being run each week. We ensure that as many children as possible have the chance to participate in clubs and school fixtures. We enter a large number of School Games events and Sporting Fixtures each term and achieved the School Games Platinum Award for our commitment to this. We always share and celebrate our successes however they occur.

We want to inspire all children to have a go at new sports and enthuse them with national sporting events, House competitions, inspirational athletes and sporting challenges where the whole community can join in.
One of our favourite challenges promoted cycling to our school community with a range of cycling events across the week including bikeability sessions, smoothie bike event, a visit from the Rickshaws and Cycle Hub’s ‘bike kitchen’ culminating in our Tour de Coleham Challenge on Saturday. Here the whole school rode laps of the school field to cycle the length of England from Berwick to Lands End. We smashed it! raising lots of money for The Ukraine and all coming together to achieve the unthinkable.
