WELCOME!

… FROM THE FRIENDS OF COLEHAM SCHOOL

Friends of Coleham School (FOCS) exists to build a stronger school community, providing fun and affordable events to bring our staff, pupils and families together in support of our school. Fundraising is an added bonus, that comes from arranging these events.  Our aim is to provide fun and affordable events for the whole family and community to enjoy with a friendly relaxed vibe, avoiding any commercial feel.  To stage our events, we rely on the wonderful support of families- please consider volunteering at just one event a year-no amount of time or gesture is too small or insignificant.

Aims

  • Building a stronger school community
  • Connecting staff, pupils and families together in support of our school
  • Provide fun, affordable events for the whole family to enjoy and involve our larger Coleham community
  • To ensure that events are inclusive and can be accessed by all pupils and families
  • Use fundraising to purchase resources and workshops to enrich the curriculum and pupil’s educational experience in line with the School development plan.

Role of the Committee
Our PTA committee has two main officers Chairman and Treasurer and a range of parents and staff who help organise events.  Our Committee meetings are open to everybody so that anyone can dip in and out as they choose-there are no ongoing commitments!  We realise that some people may just like to help with certain events.  Everybody’s time is precious so we plan things that will have maximum impact but minimal work! We meet every 2/3 months, before each main event and once annually for the official AGM.  We meet at The Crown pub in Coleham, meetings are informal (no minute taking) and we always stay afterwards to have a socialise.  We advertise each meet up and event on the weekly School Bulletin.

How We Raise Money
Our fundraising comes from our following main events:
* May -Plant & Craft Fair
* July -Summer Fair
* December -Christmas Fair & Hamper Raffle
* School Discos & Quiz night

Whilst fundraising is important, ultimately we want the children to have fun and provide events that are focused on the children providing them with opportunities to socialise and make lasting memories.   We focus these events on simple ideas for the children such as competitions and craft activities and engage with local community groups to provide workshops and displays for entertainment.

How We Spend the Money We Raise
We are committed to spending money raised, on resources and activities that will directly benefit the children. The pressures of school budget funding over the next five years, will mean that the PTA funds become even more important to help provide experiences that enrich the curriculum and educational experience such as guest performances and workshops. The PTA funds are also used to provide the little luxuries such as the Christmas and Year 6 Leavers parties.

How You Can Get Involved
To run our events, we need lots of people to help serve refreshments and man stalls.  The children love to help out on stalls and we encourage the pupils to take responsibility for getting involved.  If you could spare an hour for one of our fairs, then please do get in touch. You can, of course, attend any FOCs meeting or if you and a group of friends have your own idea for a fundraising event then Focs can help support you with this.

How We Get Information to You
We will keep you informed about our activities and requests for assistance by sending letters via Parent Mail.  Our Friends of Coleham Facebook page will provide you with all you need to know about forthcoming events and how to contact us and we also include all of our events on the school website calendar and weekly School Bulletin.  You may drop us an email at focs@colehamprimary.ac.uk or leave a message with the school reception.  We really couldn't achieve what we do without the unseen army of help that exists in school so please do get in touch – we would love to hear from you.

Why Are We A Registered Charity?
As a charity we must abide by Charity Commission rules and regulations and we are bound by a constitution, which sets out rules about how we operate and conduct ourselves.
