At Coleham Primary School we believe that the school meal is one of the most important parts of the day and we go to great lengths to ensure we have the best catering service available.
We know that what children eat plays an important part in their wellbeing and a positive relationship with food and healthy eating will set them on the right track for later life. Lunch times are also a key time for children to interact socially together.
We want our children to have a real dining experience - similar to that at home or when out at a café or restaurant. We don’t operate a pre-order system as we believe it is important for the child to feel empowered to exercise their independence and make informed choices over what they would like to eat at lunchtime.
From April 2018 our school meals are provided by Catering Academy. Its kitchen team work closely with school staff and pupils to ensure a whole school approach to the food, activities and health education that is delivered.
Each day children can choose from a hot main meal, hot vegetarian meal or hot snack - such a jacket potato with topping or a wrap - or a healthy packed lunch. The wheelbarrow salad bar offers fresh bread and a varied choice of salads daily and there is a dessert station for puddings. Milk and water are both available.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children receive a free meal as do those children who qualify for Free School Meals. If you are unsure whether your child is eligible for Free School Meals please click on the link below, which will take you to Shropshire Council’s website for further information.
The price of a school meal is £2.20. Meals must be paid in advance via ParentPay. A link to their website is provided at the bottom of this page.
We understand that some parents and children can feel anxious or worried about lunchtimes so we will all work closely together to resolve this. Catering Academy’s nutritionist is able to provide advice and support to anyone that requires it. Please contact us if you would like to know more.

Nut and Sesame Free School
Our school has a ‘no nuts and no sesame’ policy. We have agreements in place with suppliers to provide us with nut and sesame free products. We take all reasonable precautions to reduce the liklihood of food containing 'nuts and sesame' being brought into school.
We have several pupils in school who suffer from different allergies including a severe allergy to sesame.
Since this condition can be life-threatening, we are ask parents and carers to help us minimise the risks.
Parents and Carers should ensure that any food brought into school for packed lunches, birthday treats, Christmas parties and special events does not contain any nuts or sesame. It is important that all parents carry out the suggested measures.
Our Lunch Time Supervisors will remind children not to share their lunches and ask any child that brings in food with obvious signs of nuts or sesame, to not eat these in school but take them home. This will be to prevent children with allergies coming into contact with these substances.
